Prekshana ౨ৎ (prekshana) | 22 comments I usually see through it until 100 pages or sometimes 200 and then abandon it when I feel I am not very connecting with it.

WILMA BROWN | 15 comments When reading a book, I usually give it 100 pages if it is not interesting, I will pass it on. I'm trying to read Sense and Sensibility. I'm on page 72, it is so boring, I think I will give up It was written in 181,8, just not for me.

Karen Wapinski | 29 comments If it feels like a chore to read I drop it. I don't mind books that have a slow burn if the writing or characters really attract me, so it's not a pacing thing.

I was reading House of Names a little while back and liked the beginning but from there it slowed down and I never really connected with any of the main characters or with where the story seemed to be going and I'd keep skipping it to read something else so around the halfway point I just returned it to the library without finishing it.

Raven Grant | 11 comments For me it's kinda hard honestly. My big thing is being told a book has an amazing plot and turns out to just be pure smut from page one with no world or character building really. I do enjoy books like that but that's when I'm in the mood for that.
I also am not a fan of the need to make many childhood characters have smutty retellings as I keep running into that being the major plot point instead of the characters itself.

Same. Also, I want to keep giving it a chance so I will MAKE myself finish it but there's just a chance I might never read it again.🤷‍♀️

Grace =^_^= | 11 comments I'm usually a mood reader so if I'm not "feeling it," I stop. I returned a number of books to the library this week b/c of this reason. If I want to try another time, I make note of the title.

DeAnn (dkaduce) | 5 comments I agree with the commenters who say there are too many books in my TBR pile to waste time on something so unsatisfying. The definition of unsatisfying, though, has some give to it. For instance, I tried to read The Lord of the Rings 3 times throughout my adulthood because it was on the "Should Be Read" lists. I finally accomplished the entire series in my 40's, but it did take some perseverance to get past the first 100 pages. Really poor editing coupled with a nonsensical storyline will make me question myself as a former teacher.

I REALLY hate proofreading errors! However, if the plot is great, I can wade through the trantulas to get to the diamonds. One such book was The 9th Brother by Raven Thorneheart. Spectacular story! A debacle from the publisher that let it be printed the way it was.

East of Reality (tamberleigh) | 13 comments When I start a book I usually continue it until it's over. If it's been three days and I'm still struggling -- reading something else, watching TV, finding other ways to avoid the book -- I give it half an hour of focused reading. If, in that half hour I'm still bored, I toss it aside.

Ronak AhmadyAhangar (ronakeatsbooks) | 5 comments I read at least 55% before I list it on this website (it's only fair to pass the halfway point)
Main reasons for abandoning a book are: 1- the main plot's been done too many times before, 2- the protagonist is too dull, 3- the writing is not up to decent human standards 😭🤣 honestly, if I abandon a book it's really REALLY not worth anyone's time.

sarah | 288 comments If I’m not picking it up at every chance I get to read it then chances are it’s not my time to read it so I’ll let it go and maybe it will find me again later down the road and at that time I will read it. If it ain’t happening then it ain’t happening.

Barry | 17 comments I very rarely finish a book , but the last one a few weeks ago , I started to get annoyed with the writing style , the plot and got a feeling in my stomach , that this wasnt fun.

Agree with you there! I like smutty books when that's what I'm in the mood for but I do need there to be an actual plot or character arc in there. There was a bodyguard one I read a few years ago that had the most non sensical plot and stupidest characters and if I hadn't been waiting for a friend and had anything else to read at the time I would've dropped it.
