Can a poor cover image be replaced with the same but better cover image?

I was wondering whether you can replace a poor quality cover image with a same but better cover image. The previous cover image is a poorly captured photo from a weird angle while the new cover image is the same cover image but digitally scanned from the official publisher's website. What should be done here?
