Team Evergreen - Chat!
checking in! :) I've never played codenames before so might be a bit lost at first, but along for the ride.
Checking in! I’ve also never played but have had friends say it’s very fun. Curious to see how it’ll work as a book challenge
Hello, Team Evergreen! I've never played this before in any form that I know of, but it sounds like fun and I'm happy to be a part of this team. :)
oh wow this is gonna be intense, now that i've looked at the spreadsheet haha. i am not one for strategy so i feel like i would just read my book and see what word fits. does anyone see a different/better way to play?
I'm with you Kim. I think we just read books and see where we can fit it.
I have never played this so I'm of no help on any type of strategy lol

I'll just state right now (for anyone who wasn't on my team for Strands) I mostly get page points due to most of my reading being for 2 kids 5 and 2. The 3 books per month I put in for was the grown up ones that actually get words, so I'll have a LOT of books, but only a few words. XDOk I just checked our spreadsheet and going by the example, there's no strategy to this. Apparently in the game you get clues but that's not happening in this case. None of the words seem to match for each colour, so we're kind of just shooting targets in the dark. I guess that's part of the fun.
Yeah, I just reread the rules. I think we just need to grab the word it fits for and post and hope we don't get the assassin lol
Ok, I added all the words to the C1 tab. I also just put a x in the a column to show that I posted a review.
Let me know if this won't work or if someone else wants to suggest a better way to keep track of what has been posted or not.

Jamie, you posted a book for HAM and put author, so I assume any words that can be spelled from the author's name would fit the task? What is the Assassin Card? I have no idea what I'm doing but I've read 3 books so far:
Yin Yang Love Song
We Could Be Rats
Dirty Little Midlife Crisis
So what am I looking for?
Vicki - There are a few ways we can find the words:
1. Find the words in the text. Please add the %, page number, or chapter and the quote(s) with the word(s).
2. Using the letters in the book title (any edition).
3. Using the letters in the series title (any edition). If a book is in more than one series, you can use any or all of them.
4. Using the letters in the authors name: first, middle, and last. If your book has more than one author, you can use any or all of them.
Now as for the Assassin, I've never played this game, but from what I've gathered, we don't want to turn that card over. But there is no way to prevent it really.
If one of the words we read for is the Assassin card, we lose 10 points and I think we then get new words. If we don't turn that one over, we get 20 bonus points.
So basically, it's really a game of luck :)

Any time! I've had to read them several times just to make sure I understand what's going on with this one lol.

Any books that count for words I'm 100% banking and letting you guys figure out where it best fits XD

I would just post them Jessie. There isn't any strategy to this game that I can see. It's just pure luck.

@Leslie Ann - I noticed that you have a book in on the word CASINO but I don't see anything on the review sheet. Do you want one of us to post this for you?
Jamie wrote: "@Leslie Ann - I noticed that you have a book in on the word CASINO but I don't see anything on the review sheet. Do you want one of us to post this for you?"Needs a review before it can be posted, I see. Maybe put it in banked if someone else has something for CASINO
Kim wrote: "do we keep reading for this board until we have read for every word or until we hit the assassin?"
Until we hit the Assassin. Once that happens we get a new board. If we don't hit it we get an extra 20 points. We've been doing really good so far missing it lol

The assassin was under Spike.
We have new words, and I've added those all on the CN2 tab so it's easier to see what has and hasn't been taken.

No, I'm pretty sure that was mine lol.
I spoke too soon. We got a lot farther than I thought with that one.

Crossing fingers AND toes! I've got an audiobook I'm dashing through at 1.75 speed (I'm only enjoying one POV and just want it done) and an ebook that's about 2/3 done. I'm hoping to have them finished in the next couple of days.
Sorry team, I was sick with the flu the last week of Jan and 1st week of Feb. I'm getting back to reading now so I'm checking in!
Vicki wrote: "Jessie, which review?"Good Dirt apparently the quote is: "People in Canada eat it" (Loc. 1684)
:D
I have one kid book to enter (I've read a bunch more with the kids but they were re-reads so I didn't put up a new review for it)
I'm really trying to get through this disappointing ARC (two POVs, one in the 1700s one in the present... book did NOT need to the modern story line and it just absolutely takes away from the past one). I've got last month's BOTM that I didn't quite get finished in time, and this month's BOTM that I'm hoping to get to.
Now that I realized I can play this sad ARC at a faster speed I'm getting through it much quicker.
Phew, I was just getting stressed looking at our points and seeing the end of the month looming. Then I remembered it's a 2 month challenge!! We're doing good!
@Kim - I noticed you had a book, Hexed, for Diamond on the spreadsheet, but it doesn't look like anything was posted on the review link for this.
I just posted a book for Maple, and then the only two words we have left are Diamond or Chair.
Crossing fingers we can miss the Assassin this time and get some bonus points!
