So I started last night and got a little reading in today. Unfortunately, I haven't been around my computer much so I wasn't able to make consistent updates so here's a late one.

Chapter 13
(view spoiler)[I do not like Calla. She's just really getting on my nerves haha. She's coming off as so stuck up to me and rude sometimes. I get it, she's not used to the wilderness and she enjoys the luxuries and conveniences of cities but my goodness. She's coming off as incredibly spoiled to me. That said, there is a small chance she's growing on me. I think it's mainly because I like Jonah.

I love a good grumpy sunshine story, I'm a total sucker. I really like Jonah.

I think I'm not fully understanding why the mom left Alaska in the first place. It feels weird to me that she had a child with someone who is taking over the family business and clearly loves to live there and fly. He obviously wasn't keen on leaving. I don't know.

So far it's predictable but I'm not mad about it. I'm wondering if there's going to be an issue with one of the planes. Someone said one of the planes just felt off but wasn't sure what it was. Curious how all of this will play out in the end with her dad getting treatments. I assume she's going to stick around. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 21
(view spoiler)[So this is a serious slow burn. We've finally had sex but even that first kiss took almost 75% through. Quite the journey.

Calla is definitely growing on me. I really didn't like her in the beginning.

I find this story incredibly predictable. I'm not entirely sure how it's going to end but I assume she leaves given that book two is also about them.

I like the banter between the two of them. It's fairly entertaining. Him keeping her luggage was pretty funny and then her shaving him. Maybe a little much and also not sure how it was possible but I'll run with it.

I think I'll likely read the second one right away because I'm intrigued enough but really wasn't expecting the slow burn aspect and it's not totally fade to black but not sure what else to call it. The spice isn't overly spicey. It's happening and you know it is but it's not exactly thrilling. (hide spoiler)]

I know Jonah has expressed that he doesn't want to buy and have to sit a desk but what was Wren hoping to get the money for? Why does he want to sell it? Just hoping to give money to Calla when he dies? Kind of hoping he gives it to Calla and Jonah. I can see that happening and Calla comes back to help with paperwork and the office side of things but I guess we'll see. (hide spoiler)]

It was definitely a slow burn like I said before and the spice wasn't super spicy but it was a fun read.

Wren having his last plane ride and basically saying goodbye to Calla is where the crying started haha. It destroyed me.

Calla was still not my favourite FMC but I came around to her. She was just so stuck up at the beginning. I know that's what her character was supposed to be and I get how it played a part but I was just annoyed by it.

Seriously love Jonah and that he said he's willing to compromise and he came prepared with a plan.

I think it makes sense that Wren wanted to sell the business and give the money to Calla. I was kind of hoping he would give the business to Jonah but it wouldn't have worked with the story, of how Jonah and Calla are going to move somewhere else.

I'm a little afraid of what's to come in the next book. How are we getting a whole other book on their relationship? I'm going to read it before I like them and I'm curious but I'm afraid of filler.

Definitely lots of setting up the story. I was invested as well pretty much from the beginning.

Concerning Calla
(view spoiler)[ I don't mind her not one bit. I don't think she's acting spoiled too.
She was... reluctant.
She came because she doesn't want to regret things, but she left her research about Alaska and cancer and her dad till the last minute.
I can understand that.
She feels abandoned and part of her is not emotionally ready to be so invested. So she is doing minimal to see what she gets in return before does more.

Typical response for abandonment I might say.

And even her jealousy and her assumptions about Mabel. That's completely normal.
She is very insecure in her relationship with her dad so any small thing can be a trigger.

I do think that the book is taking to the direction of more self assurance.
I do think she will have to give up a lot of things if she chooses to stay in Alaska and be with her dad and Jonah.
I don't know how I feel about this aspect tho.

I do not want her to come to the conclusion that she can live without it and it's unnecessary.
Because clothes and dressing up are as much for our mental health and our identity as they could be for hiding insecurities.
And while she certainly has her insecurities, I don't think her dress-ups are that for her.

Chapter 23
(view spoiler)[Well I'm really unsure how to feel about this one. It's tricky. It feels complicated. She's moved to Alaska to be with him and they're trying to compromise but it just feels like they're incredibly different people, wanting completely different things. It seems clear to me that he's not someone who would be happy in a subdivision home and likely looking for something more remote. I'm glad they found a place but I don't know if I love the way they found it. I can't figure out if I'm still loving Jonah or not. It feels a little like Calla is giving in far than him.

Jonah trying to propose was painful and again an example of them not being on the same page. He's ready to get married and have children sooner than later.

I don't know how to feel about Marie either. She likes Jonah, that's clear, and I appreciate how direct Jonah is being with her about his feelings about her.

I'm enjoying it but I'm also kind of wishing it ended with the first one. (hide spoiler)]

I don't mind that.

we are saying this is slowburn, but really. it's just a week. so it's a slowburn in terms of book length but not timeline.

It is definitely predictable but it feels like a warm hug in the winter lol I don't know how else to explain it.
Like it's still chilly and you know what's out there, but you enjoy it nonetheless.

I am just going with the story, Wren might die, she might leave, I don't know, but I am going with it.

I don't think either of them is making my top FMC/MMC/Couple lists, but I like them all the same. (hide spoiler)]

Maybe he didn't want her to feel stuck and that she has to take over at such a young age?
Maybe he didn't want her to feel that she has to continue a strained and emotionally loaded relationship with Jonah if she owns and he takes over?

I wish we talked about this more.

I was a bit pissed that when she learned he was selling she completely stopped working on the website and just "gave up" kinda....
and now Jonah wants to start his own company, that seriously sounds counterproductive... if they only talked about things, they could have formulated a better plan...

Really great points. It is a slow burn but just in terms of book length. Majority of the book is over a short period of time and is definitely far more character driven than spice.

(view spoiler)[Yes! Absolutely sobbed haha. I think it was because when my mom died I saw that process and it just really got me.

In the second book, Tucker briefly touches on how everything played out with Wren selling vs giving it to them and what his reasoning possibly was.

This style/amount of spice didn't bother me either. I was far too into the story to really care and I don't think a super spicy, wild scene would have really fit the book given everything else that was happening.

I agree. She just dropped helping with the company and we never really talked about it. It felt like the last bit of the book went so fast especially considering the first 3/4 was a week or two. She had the conversation with her dad about what he was planning to do with the company and then it all just happened.

That said, I definitely enjoyed it. I also completely understand what you meant by a warm hug! It was such a lovely story. I completely felt like I was up there with them and can picture the town, all of the scenes. She's a great writer, able to immerse the reader into the world. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 37 - Edited because I forgot to add in which book this was for.

(view spoiler)[Ok, I love that Agnus and Mable are there. Do we think Agnus and Roy could get together and they could move there?! I doubt it but I would love it.

The second book feels incredibly long but I'm really enjoying it. Similar to the first book, we're getting lots of character development and plot.

Grace, you weren't sure exactly how to describe the first book but called it a warm hug. This book feels incredibly "real" to me. More than any romance I've read I think. I feel like we're getting a real peek at their life together. We see the struggles, the jealousy, them trying to figure out their lives and what they want to do. I appreciate us getting the struggles but also the love that comes along with it.

I think many of us can relate to what Calla and Jonah experience. Trying to not lose yourself in someone else and doing your best to find things that you love but also wanting your partner to do what they love and encourage them, even if that may not be what you want.

Part of it feeling "real" to me could also be because I've shared a lot of the same feelings surrounding feeling lonely with a partner working long days, up early and home late, or being gone for several days at a time. Also, losing a parent.

I love Simon and how he supports her. Encouraging her and go a little deeper and really think about her feelings in certain situations.

Anyway, I've enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. I wasn't sure what to expect from it but I've been pleasantly surprised. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[Ok. The audio I have for this one made me think it was much longer than it actually is. I thought it was a 24 hour read but it's about half that.

I really enjoyed this read for many of the reasons that I mentioned in the last update in chapter 37.

It felt like a real relationship to me. Jonah and Calla grew in this book and it was nice to see the ups and downs of it.

I loved seeing how Calla and Roy became friends. He seemed to have some fairly significant struggles in his life. I wish he had told the woman (her name escapes me) that she was the girl who looked for his mother when she disappeared. I know they aren't the main main characters but I felt like I almost wanted closure on that.

The end was fairly intense with Jonah crashing but it was so nice to see everyone come together for Calla. I really want Agnus and Mable to move there and it seems they have a plan to make that happen.

The ending felt a little abrupt as well so I'm looking forward to the novella. I'll likely dive in shortly. Curious to know how meeting his parents went and having them on the property considering his mother hasn't been back to Alaska in quite a few years and he seems to strongly dislike his stepfather. Excited that they are engaged and I liked how it happened!

(view spoiler)[Oh goodness. I'm not loving the stepfather but I hope the relationship pulls together by the end of this book. I'm not holding my breath though. He doesn't seem like the greatest person.

I guess the parents are now moving into their house for the holiday. It's cute that he wants to keep an eye on his mom.

I'm guessing they may get married while his mom is still there. Perhaps then have a party back in Toronto or something.

I'm really loving Roy coming around and softening up a little. What he did is obviously not ok but he clearly recognizes this, has made changes and has plans in place to make sure it won't happen again. I'm kind of hoping he finds someone and rooting for Agnus maybe?!

Mabel is a total pain in the butt right now but also not surprised considering her age. Fairly typical for a teenager for sure.

Wait I don't understand, how did she fly to Alaska rhe first time? Didn't she use her passport? It's such a minor thing but that passport and "flying as a US citizen for the first time" are you confusing me

Calla is a US and Canadian citizen but she didn't have her US passport the first time she went. She's able to get it because her dad is American. She would have used her Canadian passport on the first visit and been limited to staying for 3 months. Because she was moving there this time she likely got her passport and used it when entering the country so she could stay as long as she wanted.

Can't believe we're on day 6 of Feb, and I only finished 1 book. Who even am I?

Anywho, I am exhausted every night and end up falling asleep while reading.
I made it to chp 21 of yesterday.

But the book is sooooo character driven, I fear my exhaustion is affecting how I enjoy the book.

I do like how real it is though, and how much they're trying to find and settle in their routine.
