Today, I started and finished Lovers of Franz K. and yesterday I started and finished Ballerina. Only a total of 250ish pages between the two so it wasn't too tough of a challenge!
You all read way faster than me. I almost never start and finish a book in the same day.Having said that, I did blitze through A Study in Scarlet this Friday night, as I'm in a Sherlock Holmes readalong. And I did Rock Crystal in an evening over new year. Both of those are basically novellas though.
Gilgi by Irmgard Keun . Best seller in Weimar Germany in 1932 it tells the tale of a New Independent Woman and her travails.Keun fell foul of the Nazis , stood up to Geobbels. , fled , faked her own depth and returned incognito ..Any of her short novels are worth reading
Early December, and it was Mammoth. Finishing in a day is usually something I only do with short books (up to about 150 pages).
The last time was mid 2024 withTranslations from the Night: Selected Poems of Jean-Joseph Rabearivelo (African Writers Series ; 167).With all the stuff going on in my life, it's very rare that I read a novel in a day. But it's not uncommon with poetry chapbooks.
With poetry I prefer the short original editions that poets put out which are typically in the 60-100 page range rather than the monster selected or collected poems that come out later. But in this case, the selected poems was pretty short.
I read it quite awhile back, but I remember reading Sounder in one day. I feel like I hardly ever read books in one day anymore because I'm usually reading 2 or 3 at a time.
