For future reference, combining does not necessitate a superlibrarian. Please post future requests in the "Book & Author Page Issues" folder.
Thanks Scott.@David: My understanding was that a superlibrarian is needed after a certain number of users had shelved either of the editions?
Your understanding was wrong. Combining does not necessitate a superlibrarian.Merging (=deleting) an edition requires a superlibrarian, if shelved five times or more (but less than 10k). So does setting an edition invalid, in the rare cases where this needs to be done for an entry shelved five times.
Combining moves a book to join a group of books, adding that edition to the stack of books, using a physical example. It increases the number of books in the stack. An example would be combining a Kindle edition with a group of paperbacks and hardcovers.Merging, on the other hand, deletes the book being merged (a duplicate edition). The process removes the book record and moves the ratings and reviews to the target book. When complete, the number of books in the stack is reduced by one.
Using a physical example, I have two identical books. I've added sticky notes to each book. I decide to keep only one of the books, so I move all the sticky notes from the duplicate to the one I'm keeping, and remove the duplicate book from my library.
Does that bit of librariansplaining help? 🤔
