Hi! I have the first 80k words of my fantasy/ modern day, dark academia novel written. There is a bit of a mystery aspect to it and it is very layered so I would love to get someone’s expertise Isa so I can make sure the story flows well and ties together before I finish the final 20k or so of the narrative.
Looking for suggestions on how to ensure a seamless plot and insight in areas that require more or less development.
It is set in the United Kingdom in 2014 and the story centers around a 21-year-old barmaid who gets a strange letter of acceptance to study at Cambridge. She’s spent her childhood hopping foster care homes and has little faith in herself or humanity, but despite these uncanny pretences, she decides to accept the offer which comes with only one stipulation from a dodgy professor in the admissions department.
Here is a back of the book blurb:
“Ryaan Lunde has spent her life surviving—bouncing between foster homes, fighting to keep her head above water, and now, against all odds, earning a spot at the University of Cambridge. Determined to seize the opportunity and take control of her future, she accepts under one seemingly inconsequential stipulation. But when a professor enlists her to investigate a group of privileged students rumoured to be rigging exams and extorting the faculty, Ryaan’s plans for a quiet existence take a dark turn.
What starts as a simple task to expose a few entitled cheaters soon spirals into a deadly race against time. Beneath the veneer of academic ambition, Ryaan uncovers a world hidden in plain sight—a world of ancient councils, forbidden magic, and powerful families vying for control of something far more sinister than high marks and prestigious diplomas.
With each step, Ryaan is drawn further into a space where magic and malice entwine, where alliances shift like shadows, and the wrong move could cost her everything—including her soul. In a place where trust is a weapon and power is the ultimate prize, Ryaan must decide: will she confront her demons or be consumed by them?
Because, in the end, the darkness always demands a price.”
Let me know if you’re interested! Thank you!
Hi Amanda,I have a contemporary novel at 158k words.
Blurb:
One morning in a coffee shop, Alex is beside himself to meet Pete Shehann, whom it seems has some experience in the very subject of which he is a self-proclaimed enthusiast. Reluctant yet prompted, Pete shares his story, beginning with how his father abandoned him as a child in rural 1930s Oklahoma, leaving him embittered and believing himself a failure, proven time and again. And marrying May couldn’t be luck at all but a fluke, even if she has her own problems. After losing all of her family in a tragic accident, a terrible void remains, and she wants children more than anything.
An unexpected inheritance raises suspicions yet sends Pete and May to a new life in Oregon, where they meet Stevens, the attorney handling the inheritance and proving himself a faithful friend in the years to come. But a tragedy that happened on their journey haunts Pete, eventually conforming to an eerie parallel with May after her health fails following the negative results of an infertility test. It greatly disturbs Pete to discover he isn’t even enough for his own wife to want to live, but he determines to do whatever it takes to save her. And what of himself? Is he destined a lifetime of failure?

Hi Amanda,
I'm seeking a final beta reader for my fantasy novel WILL OF THE WIND. I made some changes based on the last round of beta-readers who said they couldn't put it down (which was encouraging). With my final changes, I need someone to read the entire book (not edits please) and just let me know what they thought. I give credit in the acknowledgments to all beta-readers who read my book.
It is about a young druid who falls in love, destroys an Oppida by mistake, and wants to make things right. The story has elves, dragons, magic, and elements of quantum physics swirling through this world.
The logline is: The fate of a world rests on a young druid wished into existence whose untrained magic brings about the collapse of the druid order and the death of his closest friend. The vision of an arrow striking the druidess he loves sends him on a journey to save her whereupon he meets a cantankerous old mage who takes him on as an apprentice to become a Druid Master.
If interested please email me at mi.cote@northeastern.edu.

Hello Amanda,I'm looking for a Beta reader for 60K Scifi Fantasy.
Here's a bit about it:
Zander Chung knows a terrible idea when he hears one, but after the 39-year-old couch potato is sentenced to death by anonymous videocall, his humdrum life in 2118 Republic of London is turned upside down.
Pursued by misfunctioning machines and running out of time, his enigmatic grandmother (who may or may not be immortal), and the Egyptian god Osiris, persuade him that the only answer is to travel to the Afterlife – in Business Class, no less – to persuade Suleiman the Wise to help.
Out of his league (and possibly out of his mind), Zander is confronted by a cast of demi-gods, dead and djinn. Finding friends and foes in the most unexpected places, he soon learns there is much more at stake than just his life.
Will he succeed? How will he return from the dead? Can Suleiman be trusted? And why is an angel in drag lending a hand?
A Conspiracy of Toasters is the addictive entry to a SciFi-Fantasy world of chicken-that-isn’t-chicken, magicians, furry dice, and jealous djinn.
Do let me know if you are interested, and thanks in advance.

Whispers of discontent stir beneath the surface of the kingdom, but for Nye, the greatest threat comes not from those who reject his rule, but from the disappearance of his closest friend…

After Nye reveals his true identity and admits his love for her, Aveline vanishes. Nye is left to feel the weight he’s spent his whole life trying to avoid. Now, not only is Aveline relying on him, but countless others. And the last thing he wants to do is prove himself more capable than he is.
All Aveline wanted was to be left alone. This desperate urge was crushed as she grew to care for Nye—the man she once loathed with her entire being. Suddenly, she is pulled into his life and all of the trouble that comes with it. Her safety now lies entirely in his hands. As Aveline struggles to find some way to escape from her captivity and avoid pinning it all on him, she wades through her past to make sense of a future with Nye.

Hey Amanda!

Blurb:
Mila Moreno was ready to dedicate her future to the most worthy cause: helping others. College plans locked in and memories of her dark past locked away, the eighteen-year-old thought that attending one high school party couldn’t lead to any trouble. What she never expected was that the night would end with her waking up in an underground prison and have all hopes of a normal future go up in smoke.
As Mila struggles to escape from the darkness of her cell, she must face the evil that brought her there in the first place – even if that means finally looking in the mirror and facing the past that still haunts her. Growing up without parents sharpened her survival skills, but quick wit and a hot temper may not be the right tools for an escape. At least for the first time in her life, she isn’t on her own…
With strength and speed that rivals even the fastest creature, The Protectors are here to do what they do best: saving the world. They can help Mila break down the stone walls that surround her, but the real challenge will be clawing through the one built around her heart. Her best chance may be with the emerald-eyed Kit, a Protector who offers her freedom – if she plays by his rules, that is. The alliance formed in the dim light of the cave prison is tentative, shaken by unspoken secrets on both sides. Why was Mila dragged down here in the first place? And how did The Protectors really get their superhuman abilities?
As Mila finds herself falling deeper into The Protectors’ world, she questions everything: is she really the orphan girl taught to hide from the world, or should she be rising up to save it?
One thing is for sure – Mila Moreno never plays by anyone’s rules but her own.
Let me know if you're interested! Thank you!

Hello! I know you have many offers already but I’ll ask you as well if you have time to read my novel. It’s 91k (trying to shrink it to 80k) a low fantasy.
Some words are better left forgotten... but what if they're the key to everything?
Wenna thought her life as a book mender in a war-torn city was simple. But when a mysterious book enters her shop—silent where others whisper—she's thrust into the dangerous world of noble Ethers families and ancient magic.
As shadows of the past close in, Wenna must uncover the truth behind her strange powers or risk becoming a pawn in a deadly game. With betrayal lurking at every turn, the fate of her city—and her heart—may rest in her hands.
The Forgotten Words is a spellbinding fantasy about destiny, defiance, and the courage to rewrite your fate.
I’m looking for developmental critique. I’m not a native English speaker so I would also appreciate help with grammar where it’s needed.
If you’re interested please leave a message or send an email to anonmatagot@gmail.com

I am seeking some free beta readers for my novel: Because the Demons Scream So Loudly. The novel is 115k words. It is literary fiction- it is a slow burn, introspective, pensive novel. It is an epistolary novel- it is written completely in journal/diary format. The novel is a mixed bag of religion/spirituality/romance/vampiric elements/fantasy.Blurb/Excerpt: Entry 148- I still don't know how I managed it, Holy Sonom Soeht; the mind is indeed a powerful thing. My mind had already started to dissociate as the bleeder ran up to me, pinned me on the ground, and sunk his teeth into my neck. I fixed my eyes on the emerging moon as blood dripped down the back of my neck. The night lights blurred with tears but did not disappear. Not a single muscle of mine moved as he released my neck and stood up. To my shock, the bleeder spoke then as my gaze remained pinned on the sky. “It’s been quite a long time since I drew blood without a fight, and from a god woman to boot.” I heard him pick up my broken cleric chain off the ground. His foot pushed against my still frozen face as he stood over me, dangling my chain from his hand. “Such a shame that misery and naivety are not virtues,” he declared with blood still on his lips. The chain fell on the dirt beside me. As I listened to his footsteps turn and leave me, he hollered, “A word of advice, woman. If I can smell the insincerity on you, don’t you think your omniscient deity can?” I’m not sure how many minutes passed after he left, with me still paralyzed on the ground weeping.
If you are interested in beta reading for me, let me know. If you prefer e-mail, mine is witny.lit@gmail.com. Please feel free to ask me any additional questions. Thank you so very much for your valuable time in considering it! Happy 2025!
Sincerely,

As fate tightens its grip, prophecy, betrayal, and war threaten to reshape the realms. And in a world where love and death are two sides of the same blade, the deadliest choice of all… is each other.

Hi, I am looking for beta readers for my paranormal fantasy, Blood Glamours, which is complete at 110,000 words. I’m looking for typical early beta reader notes on anything from plot structure, character development and dialogue, pacing, world-building, style/tone and overall thoughts on my story and writing. Here’s my blurb for more context:
Life as a smuggler suited Deyl Parker very well—until one bad decision put thousands of fae lives at risk.
For two centuries, war between humans and fae has ravaged North America. While humans cower inside their walled-in mega-cities, the military’s Hunters scour the lands between for all that remains of the fae. Against this backdrop of fear and strife, Deyl and her partner Logan—protected by her unique magic—have made a lucrative living smuggling supplies into fae hands.
Their most valuable export? Blood glamours—a blend of Deyl’s distinctive magic and Logan’s science, and the only substance capable of fooling the Hunters’ blood signature tests. For the fae living in hiding, these are priceless. Logan, however, wanted more. When he begins selling blood glamours to the Resistance, he leads the Hunters straight to them—and gets captured in the process.
Logan knows far too much. If the Hunters break him, they’ll uncover the location of thousands of hidden fae—and learn far too much about Deyl herself. To save him, she must trade in her smuggling shoes for combat boots, and join forces with a Resistance wolf shifter, an elf with broken magic, and a mage too smart for his own good. Their mission is reckless, possibly suicidal—but Deyl has no choice. Because if Logan talks, it’ll spell the end for all faekind.
Please let me know if you’re interested and available. Thanks!

Norra has always wanted to believe in humans, but the stories sound like pure fantasy. Flying ships? Silver skin? She has more important things to worry about anyway, like fitting in with her adopted family.
The Yadrii are simple folk, so it shouldn’t be a difficult task. However, nothing is easy for her. Norra is lanky, flat-faced, mostly hairless and, though she doesn’t know it: human. The Yadrii, on the other hand, are coastal merchant people. With water-repellent fur, webbed feet, and long tails, life on the shore is a breeze for them.
Her only hope of fitting in with society lies in the success of a rite-of-passage journey that all Yadrii take on their eighteenth birthday. According to custom, the destination of the journey is chosen by a roll of dice. Whichever destination is assigned by the dice roll, the individual must set off for a month-long trial period to test their skills as a merchant.
When Norra finds out that her family rigged the outcome of her destination though, she sets off to search for answers - unable to shake the feeling that they’re trying to hide something from her.
Thanks for your time!

Seeking Beta Readers for Divinia After speaking with some people in the industry, I’ve decided that Divinia is best told as one epic fantasy novel rather than splitting it into a trilogy. Now, I’m looking for serious readers who can provide honest feedback before I move forward with the next steps.
It’s a big book; about 125,000 words and almost 700 pages! But I’m extremely proud of the journey and the destination, and for those of you who have already read Divinia: Alyc of Emberfall, you’ll be able to pick up right where that book ends and continue Alyc’s story.
I will be selecting 5-10 beta readers and emailing them a PDF copy of the manuscript. If you're interested in reading Divinia and sharing your thoughts, let me know in the comments or send me a message!
This book is a dark, character-driven epic fantasy with themes of fate, free will, and divine manipulation; so if that sounds like your kind of story, I’d love to have you on board!
Looking forward to hearing from you!
HiI have just completed the second book in my Worlds Apart series and am looking for beta readers. The novel is fast-paced and has elements of mystery and suspense. It deals with a killer who travels the multiverse to choose his victims.
Many thanks

What would you do to survive 1000 days after nuclear war?Hey everyone! I’m Kareem, and I’m looking for beta readers for my novel Tomorrow’s Gone—a brutal, action-packed survival thriller. If you like The Road, The Last of Us, or Mad Max, this might be for you.
The Story: After the world burns in nuclear fire, one man barely survives the first strikes. But survival isn’t enough. As radiation sickness spreads and cities collapse, he’s forced to navigate the ruins of civilization—dodging raiders, slavers, and warring factions who all want to carve up what’s left.
Why I Need Beta Readers: I want feedback on pacing, emotional impact, and whether the world feels real and immersive. If you’re interested, I’d love to swap reads or hear your thoughts!
How to Read It: I’m sharing the first 3 chapters, they are linked below
Thanks, and I look forward to your feedback!

Hi Amanda I hope you're doing well! I’m reaching out because I’m looking for passionate and insightful beta readers for my debut novel, Rodimus Prime, before its official release in 2025. Given your love for immersive storytelling, I’d love for you to be among the first to experience this journey and provide honest feedback.
About the Book:
Rodimus Prime is a character-driven story that blends ambition, friendship, and redemption—think The Social Networkmeets The Kite Runner.
Maxwell Tate, the enigmatic founder of Cybertronics and creator of Synergy, is at the height of success but utterly disconnected. When an old friend from his boarding school days appears with a cryptic note invoking the phrase "Rodimus Prime," Maxwell is forced to confront his past, including his rebellious youth in the "Wolfpack," his complicated relationships, and the personal and ethical cost of his empire. As he unravels the mystery behind the phrase, he embarks on a journey that challenges his legacy and the future of his company, culminating in a reckoning that could redefine social connection itself.
Would you be open to reading an early version and sharing your thoughts? Your feedback would mean the world to me and help shape the final version before publication. More details about the project can be found here: RodimusPrimeBook.com.
Let me know if you're interested—I’d be honored to have your perspective on this story!
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
Best,
Alex Kooluris

Areas for Improvement:
1. Lack of Character Development
The protagonist remains a blank slate. While we get their experience, we don’t know who they are beyond their survival instincts.
The supporting characters (Lilith, Natalie, the Vasquezes) feel interchangeable. We don’t get much of their personalities, background, or how they process the trauma differently.
Suggestion: Add small but meaningful character moments—how does each react to the catastrophe? What were they like before? Even brief flashbacks could help.
2. Jumpy Timeline & Lack of Transitions
The story skips over time inconsistently. Chapter 1 jumps from the explosion to survival underground without much transition, making the experience feel disconnected.
Chapter 2 starts with “the first week after the bombs fell,” skipping past immediate struggles of the first few days. The shift feels abrupt.
Suggestion: Use smoother transitions or brief anchor points (“Three hours later… The first night underground… By the morning of day two…”) to help the reader track time.
3. Too Much Telling vs. Showing
The protagonist often narrates what happened rather than letting the events unfold organically.
Example: “It was not fate or providence that spared me, but mere happenstance.” This could be shown by describing the debris shield in more detail instead of explaining it directly.
Suggestion: Let the characters experience discoveries in real-time rather than summarizing.
4. Lack of Distinct Dialogue
There’s very little natural dialogue, which makes it hard to distinguish characters.
Suggestion: Include more conversations—how do they cope? Do they clash over supplies? Do they reminisce?
5. Inconsistent Emotional Depth
There are high-stakes moments (Mrs. Vasquez’s death, seeing the ruins), but they aren’t emotionally explored enough.
Example: The protagonist acknowledges Mrs. Vasquez is dying but moves on too quickly. More internal reflection or hesitation before leaving would make the moment land harder.
Suggestion: Let grief and fear linger in the prose rather than moving straight to survival planning.
6. The World Beyond Los Angeles is Unclear
The protagonist wonders about the larger world, but there’s no speculation about what happened. Was this a targeted attack? Is there radio silence? Any signs of military response?
Suggestion: Even if they don’t know, let them (or another character) speculate or have theories.

I realized some of the things you pointed out (like character depth & emotional weight) actually get developed a lot more after Chapter 3. Hi! Your offer sounds great. I have a psychological thriller/contemporary fiction manuscript that I'd love to have beta read. It's titled 'Justification' and written by Jasmine Flowers. It's approximately 50,000 words. Here's a quick synopsis:
After surviving a brutal sexual assault, Averi struggles to navigate the aftermath—haunted by flashbacks, battling shame, and searching for justice in a system stacked against her. When the legal route proves futile, her mother moves them to a new town, hoping for a fresh start. But trauma doesn’t disappear with distance.
At her mother’s insistence, Averi attends a support group, where she meets Emily—sharp, fearless, and harboring her own painful past. A tentative friendship forms, built on shared wounds and unspoken rage. When Averi unexpectedly comes face-to-face with one of her attackers, the fragile foundation of her healing shatters. Emily offers a new path: revenge.
As their plan unfolds, Averi finds herself slipping further into the darkness, torn between the desire for retribution and the fear of losing herself in the process. But Emily is relentless, feeding the fire inside Averi until revenge becomes more than an idea—it becomes an obsession.
Then, everything spirals. Blood is spilled. Secrets unravel. And when Emily ends up dead, Averi is left with one terrifying question: If she wasn’t the one who killed Emily… who did?

Sub-Genres: Psychological Horror, with a dash of Cosmic Horror and Body Horror
Word Count: 51k
July 13, 1977, New York City experienced a complete blackout for twenty-five hours during the worst economic crisis in its recent history. What if the purpose behind the blackout never made the news? What if the truth defied reality and sanity? Something took hold of the population when the grid went down. A violent madness blossomed within one in three. This story concerns the journey of four friends as they attempt to survive a single night during the blackout while confronting the darkness lurking within each of them.
At a time of gangs, serial killers, and corruption, what if someone took the limitations of society off the human psyche?
I understand a full novel is a big ask from someone as new to GoodReads as me. I do have a completed short story (3k words) should you want to test the surface temperature first, as opposed to the full plunge into my own dark waters.
I'm seeking some beta readers for the first bit of my book, Down by the Garden. I'm only looking for the first fifteen (55k words) because what I need right now is advice on the buildup of the story- worldbuilding, character building, suspense, etc.DbtG (Down by the Garden) is a dark, high political fantasy that follows five main characters: an assassin, a prince, a mystic guardian, a pirate, and a dreamer. It explores themes of of war, grief, the human condition, colonialism, and morality. The magic in DbtG is a secret, and is earned rather than born with.
Writing blurbs isn't my strong suit, so here's a few snippets:
"Inamayra was the first to shatter the heavy quiet, lithe form draped over her seat, pouting lips tilting into a thoughtful curve. Half of her shining black hair was pulled away from her face in a loose updo, the other half falling over her shoulders in rivers. “This is the fifth time?”
The oldest sister, Rajeshri, rose from her chair and took to pacing the room slowly. One of her hands was floating by her face, occasionally pausing so she could nip at her nails anxiously. “Sixth,” she corrected. “And it is always the same woman.”
“But she has never acknowledged you before today.” The words, musing and softly accented, came from the youngest girl. Sahilagni toyed with the jewels dangling from her ears, seemingly staring at something her sisters couldn’t see before she tore her gaze away and looked at Rajeshri for confirmation.
“Yes,” the Mahila murmured, her tone drifting through the chamber. Her mind was still foggy from her dream earlier that day; thoughts of the woman in the woods clinging to her like cobwebs. “Precisely.”
Sahilagni frowned, a wrinkle forming between her brows. “I cannot help but thank the gods I have not dreamt of that woman. The experience sounds quite eerie.”
Eerie. Rajeshri wished the relentless dreams carried a frightening or uncanny feeling, but each of them had been anything but. In truth, since she had first seen the woman in the woods, she spent each night praying to witness her once more."
"Dark clouds hung over the training yard, weeping rain. Sophronia was soaked through, from her thick braid that reached her waist to the fighting leathers protecting her figure. Her mask sat on one of the many benches surrounding the grounds- with the clouds shielding Annarith from both suns, she had no reason to cover her face. Heavy droplets fell from the tip of her blade like blood, and she adjusted her grip on the handle easily, narrowing her eyes at the dummy before her. Its straw body was half shielded from the weather by an old tree whose branches stretched outwards like sunrays. Rain clung to her lashes, blurring her vision, and ran in rivulets down her forehead, cheeks, and neck.
She stepped forward, spun, and separated the dummy’s head from its body in one swift movement. Scowling, she swept the water from her face with a naked bicep, irritation coursing through her; non-moving targets were child’s play."
"“Of course,” the Yam’Bura repeated, and reached out her hand to play with her friend’s fingers. Then, barely a whisper, “how are you?”
The other girl lifted one shoulder noncommittally, looking away until Asi’Landra touched her cheek and tilted her face until their gazes were matched. Something shuddered through Elvaly’s body, and she swallowed. Red spots appeared on her face before her tears fell, a welcoming parade of grief. She shook her head, unable to speak, and leaned her head into Asi’Landra’s hand with her eyes closed.
“Tired,” Elvaly eventually whispered, once the tears had passed and her throat was clear."
TW: Down by the Garden contains descriptions of suicide [off page], abuse, violence, mental illnesses, war and war crimes, narcissistic behavior and manipulation, loss and grief, addiction, and many forms of childhood trauma [off page].

Hey Amanda!I have a 70k YA LGBTQ Fantasy manuscript if you are interested! It’s reminiscent of Black Widow if it was set in a fantasy kingdom with magic & royalty.
Feel free to email me at leonardojonahedson@gmail.com if you are interested!
Hey--I have a 80,000 na/ya coming of age/fantasy I would love it if you wanted to see it. I appreciate the masters in fiction. I have one--of all things--in memoir mainly with a side in poetry. Text me if you would like to take a look. Email me if you are interested in taking a look. betsdavies@comcast.net. This is a very rough blurbSheep trilogy query.
I’m Alexandra Graham, I’m eighteen. A new adult, YA fantasy novel, Black Sheep is the first book in the Vorlin trilogy. My dad runs the Exiles—the mob made up of Vorlin exiled from their home world.
I never mean to be a hero. I run. I keep running until my friends and I get caught. My father drags us home.
I run away from home with a weird group of strangers in order to get away from my family. Then I found a new family, and a new home. I grew up with the rich and spoilt in the world of the Exiles criminal masterminds. I only knew about the rich and spoilt part. The criminal part, maybe I assumed some white collar crime was going on, but not in the order of murdering people after removing all their fingers and toes from them when alive. I never would have believed if I hadn’t had to flee school and see Robin’ shot for running.
Robin’s the weird artist kid who crammed too much life in too short a time, but he’s an empath. They’re like that. I’m a telepath. We all have a power we do well. Ryan’s a Firestarter. The home world Vorlin are after Robin to be a reluctant heir. He’s not stopping running anymore than I am.
We’re on a search for Grey Stone—the guy Marcus’s dad found to teach us, but he isn’t so easy to find and we keep running into Exiles on the way. They’re scared of him. Everyone is.
He holds the mirror that joins the two worlds and makes mirror travel possible. Besides being mad powerful, no one wants to hurt Grey Stone for fear the mirror will break, and they’ll lose the way to go home. I don’t care as long as he can teach me how to control sending and receiving thoughts. It’s too powerful, especially with an empath. I’ll lose it. So’ll he.
In the firstr book, we discover what we are, and the things we can do. We track down a book of info that helps us figure out to find Grey Stone. Ryan’s friends try to chase us down. Right when it looks like we’re getting free, those of the home Vorlin who don’t want Robin to be heir come to kill him. Ryan crisps one to death instead.
By the in of the book, we’ve made it as far as finding Grey Stone’s home in Mississippi, but he isn’t there. We decide to wait it out till we know how to find him. Until then, they’re afraid to come get us.
The last of the Vorlin we run into is Tom—my boyfriend. Even before we ran, I realized I didn’t want to be his baby aymore, but he’s all I’ve ever had besides daddy’s world, and I’m afraid to be anything else. All the same, we run from him too when I realize what I have is my new friends, and perhaps something more in Robin.
The next two books are rough drafted out. By the next book, we have to run again, when Tom shows up to Grey Stone’s. By the end of that book, Robin’s coming back from a nasty set of addictions and we’re all learning some control. Robin has the hardest time controlling—emotions are everywhere. It’s one of the reasons he has trouble with substances—he defaults to them when he gets lost in emotions. In the last chapter, Grey Stone finds us, and agrees to travel with us.
In the third book, we work with him, and learn better control and more ability with our power. But in the end, the Exiles track us down, and drag us home. When we make one last run, we get free of them, and send them home by breaking the mirror.
Bets has one published book—Rebirth and three other self published books. Black Sheep has been published in an early version as a stand alone self published book—Sheep that Stray, but not sold well.
Thanks--it was originally adult urban fiction but I realized it was more suitable for na/ya and have done a new version which will be a trilogy.

Hello!I have a RomCom that’s growing in the same garden as the works of Emily Henry, Abby Jimenez and Ali Hazelwood.
She’s 86,000 words and in need of some unbiased feedback for all of the good stuff like pacing, development, plot, etc.
Here’s a blurb:
At 26, Olive’s barely keeping it together in Los Angeles—trapped under the manicured thumb of a wildly unpredictable boss at a production studio, newly single after her boyfriend ditched her for a showmance, and buried under bills she can’t pay. When she’s tasked with throwing a garden party she meets Ezra in her email-a laid-back set builder with a skateboard, a soulful dog named Mud, and an inbox full of witty banter.
Their friendship builds slowly, then all at once. When they finally meet in person, sparks fly—but just as things are starting to bloom, Olive realizes she can’t afford to stay in L.A., but that doesn’t stop the chemistry—or the connection—from growing.
With Ezra’s crew pulling her in and her woodworking hobby turning into actual paid work, Olive finds herself building m
ore than just knickknacks—she’s building a new life. Just when it seems too late, and after sending Ezra away to protect her plan, she realizes the plan was never the problem.
What follows is a story of heartbreak, healing, and unexpected second chances—with one unforgettable dog, one impossible-to-ignore connection, and two people brave enough to rebuild from the pieces.

Hi Amanda,If you are still seeking a manuscript that fits your tastes, I would be interested in your beta read of my completed fantasy novel, and am happy to reciprocate feedback for you in return.
The summary and blurb are copied below. If this interests you, or if you want a sample section, just let me know. Thank you for your time!
Summary:
This is a second world / portal fantasy romance with magic, adventure, and a little bit of dragon fire. There is mild spice, leaning more toward descriptive than explicit (if that makes sense), for reference. I'm intending for it to be a trilogy, and this first novel is complete with second in early stages.
Blurb:
When Araeya falls through the Vael and into the foreign realm beyond, she lands in the middle of a war that threatens to tear down the boundary between worlds and destroy both sides. She soon learns that the key to ending it could be embedded in her blood; but the monster she would have to face is one who bends blood to his will.
When her way home is tied to a weapon that could aid the resistance that saved her life or give their enemy the power he needs to reach beyond the Vael, her choice whether to stay and fight for this new world or return to her own holds the fate of both in the balance. Uncertain of her purpose and her power, she believes she must protect her own world by leaving the new one behind. But as her path - and her heart - becomes entwined with the commander of the resistance, she discovers that love might have the power to change her mind…and maybe change the world.

Hi there,My name is Mary and I have a manuscript for a novel called "Mullo". I am looking for beta readers to read and critique it, and I saw your advertisement in a Goodreads "Beta Reader Group". I would describe "Mullo" as historical fiction, horror, romance. It goes back and forth between a story that takes place in the past and one that takes place in the present. Here is a blurb I wrote for it:
"THEN
In 19th century Romania, death is always just around the corner. Zorya, a Roma healer woman, knows this well. But when a stranger unexpectedly calls on her expertise, she, her husband, and her children, find themselves in a place they were once forbidden from entering. But even as their life becomes more stable and prosperous, it may only take one tragedy for things to fall apart."
"NOW
Nick Alicea isn’t having a bad day. He’s having a bad life. Stuck in a dead-end job, drowning in debt, and haunted by a tragedy from his past, he's struggling. So, when a chance encounter leads to a friendship with Mirza Durvari, a quiet doctor with a mysterious illness, Nick’s life starts to seem a little less bleak. But even as their relationship becomes more intimate, Nick is forced to ask himself: Who is Mirza Durvari"
The entire manuscript is 125,000 words. Let me know if you are interested in beta reading.
Looking forward to hearing from you..
~Mary
Hey Amanda,If you manage to find time, I've got a sci-fi mystery/adventure novel for you. It's the first in a series of books I plan to write. It's complete at 80,000 words. I just need someone to make sure my characters and details are straight.
The Saurath Connection, Book 1 of the Gray Knight Chronicles
“The Terran Knights are equal parts warriors, scholars, merchants, and rogues. They’re not just fighters—they’re thinkers, philosophers, dealmakers, and tricksters when it suits them.”
-Rakesh Malhotra, Chief Tracker, Vyrnathys City Guard
In the gritty slums of Vyrnathys, children are vanishing—and no one seems to care.
Matt is a lone mercenary for hire sent to Saurath on a vague assignment with no details and no backup. Anika Veyr is a half-human, half-Luparan city guard with a sharp tongue, a sharper nightstick, and no patience for outsiders. When their paths cross in the slums of Vyrnathys, they uncover a disturbing pattern of missing children, buried beneath layers of corruption, apathy, and fear. As the investigation deepens, they realize the disappearances are part of something far more sinister.
As the investigation spirals into a deadly game of politics, corruption, and survival, Matt and Anika must navigate a city that’s as dangerous as the enemies hunting them. The deeper they dig, the more they realize this isn’t just about one planet—it’s the first thread in a galaxy-wide web of exploitation.
The Saurath Connection launches the Gray Knight Chronicles, a gritty space-opera series where justice is messy, heroes are flawed, and the truth is buried beneath layers of power and fear.
If you're interested, give me a shout.
Thanks,
James
