Codenames Challenge:
Codenames is a 2015 party board game. In it, two teams compete by each having a "spymaster" give one-word clues that can point to specific words on the board. The other players on the team must attempt to guess their team’s words while avoiding the words of the other team as well as an assassin square; if the latter is selected, then the team that selected it instantly loses. Victory is achieved when one team guesses all of their spymaster's assigned words.

If you have never heard or played this game before, below are the rules.

Rules:
Codenames is a game played by 4 or more players. Players are split into two teams, red and blue, and one player from each team becomes the spymaster while the others play as field operatives.

During setup, 25 cards containing words are randomly laid out in a 5x5 grid. Some of these cards represent red agents (red squares), some others represent blue agents (blue squares), and one represents the assassin (black square).; the rest are innocent bystanders (beige squares). The spymasters receive a randomly dealt key card with colored squares showing the board's colored squares. The "lights" on the key card represent which team will go first and have an extra agent that must be found.

Each turn, back and forth, each spymaster must provide verbal clues that allow their respective field operatives to guess the words of their team color while avoiding squares belonging to opposing agents, innocent bystanders, and the assassin. The verbal clue can only manifest in the form of a single word and a number; the number refers to how many word squares should be selected in total by the field operatives for that round, while the single word (ideally) provides a thematic hint guiding the field operatives toward which word squares to select. For example, if a spymaster wants the card squares "beach," "whale," and "water" to be selected, one can give the clue "ocean 3," as these three words are all related to the ocean. The single word must be thematically related, with phonetic hints discouraged—it also cannot be or contain an existing word on the 5x5 ground. If an invalid clue is given, the turn ends immediately, and the opposing team gets to reveal one of their own agents.

After the verbal clue is given, the field operatives must guess which of the words go with the clue. For every card that's selected by the field operatives, it will subsequently be covered with an agent tile, a bystander tile, or the assassin tile by the spymaster based on their key card. The field operatives must make a minimum of one guess per turn. Once a correct guess is made, the field operatives may continue to make guesses or choose to end their turn voluntarily. At most, the maximum number of guesses for a turn is the number given in the verbal clue plus one, assuming that all guesses have been correct. However, if a bystander or an opposing agent is revealed instead of a correct guess, the turn ceases immediately. If the assassin is revealed, the game ends immediately with a loss for the guessing team.

Assuming that the assassin isn't selected, the game ends when all of one team's agents are found, thus achieving victory. For a faster game, or in certain situations, such as the opposing team taking too much time guessing, a timer, such as the hourglass time included in the game's packaging, can be used.

How to play:
Unlike the board game, this challenge will not have teams playing against one another. Each participant will be split into teams evenly. Each team will get their own codenames to complete. Once completed, you will get new codenames to read for.

Just like the game, each team will get the same 25 words/cards to complete. There will be a key card as well and will follow the same color squares:

Agent colors: Blue & Red
Bystander color: Gray
Assassin color: Black

Unlike the game, you will not be given clues to find specific words. You will find out if the word you have read falls into any of the colors mentioned up above. If you read for the assassin square, the game is over and your team will lose 10 bonus points. Then you will be given 25 new cards and start a new game.

If you don't find the assassin and end up reading all of one color, red or blue, you will get 25 new cards and 20 bonus points.

There are a few ways you can find the words for these cards. You can do any of the following:

1. Find the words in the text. Please add the %, page number, or chapter and the quote(s) with the word(s).
2. Using the letters in the book title (any edition).
3. Using the letters in the series title (any edition). If a book is in more than one series, you can use any or all of them.
4. Using the letters in the authors name: first, middle, and last. If your book has more than one author, you can use any or all of them.

For example, using the cards in the picture up above, you read for the word 'Princess.' You would post like,

Knight of the Goddess (Blood of a Fae, #4) by Briar Boleyn
Review: add link
Buddy: add link (if applicable)
Pages: 349
Word: Princess
How it fits: Pg. 216, "...and be the princess you were meant to be?"

When I do scores, I will let you know what color you read for. If the word 'Princess' ends up being the assassin, the game is over. If you posted any books after you posted for this word and before I did scores, all those books will be put on hold and can be used for any of the words in the new game.

This challenge will only take place during the months of February and March. That means books will be accepted from February 1st to March 31st. The winners will be announced on April 1st.

If you start a book before February, you will only be able to count the pages that you read in February for this challenge. If the page amount is over 100 pages, you can still count it towards a category.

When signing up, please mention the number of books you plan on reading for the months of February and March. This number will make it easier for me to make teams match up a bit more evenly.

For example,
Alaina - 20 bpm
Aly - 25 bpm
Jamie - 10 bpm
Jessica - 15 bpm
Melanie - 10 bpm
Anshika - 3 bpm
Saige - 8 bpm

**bpm = books per month**
**You will not be penalized if you go over or under your number.**

The general challenge rules can be found here.

Page Points
1 - 50 pages → 0.25 pts (will only count for page points)
51 - 99 pages → 0.5 pts (will only count for page points)
100 - 149 pages → 1 pt
150–249 pages → 2 pts
250 - 349 pages → 3 pts
350 - 449 pages → 4 pts
450 - 549 pages → 5 pts
550 - 649 pages → 6 pts
650 - 749 pages → 7 pts
750 - 849 pages → 8 pts
850 - 949 pages → 9 pts
950+ pages → 10 pts

Buddy Reads will DOUBLE your points.
BOTM will TRIPLE your points.
