Jennifer Galvin | 2 comments Currently reading Heir of Fire. I read Assassin’s Blade first and I’m glad i did. I feel like a lot of the references to the past and certain characters would’ve went right over my head if i didn’t read it first. And after reading Crown of Midnight, i would’ve hated going back in time instead of just continuing on

Rocío García | 28 comments I think the order depends on how you are as a reader.
I mean, if you know you wouldn't read a book if you know how it is going to end, then you definetly should read it first. But I think that if you don't mind knowing how the assasin's blade is going to end, then you should read it third, because it doesn't follow the typical structure of a book, and I heard some people found it harder to get into the story, when they started with that book.
But you know everybody is different.

Kate | 3 comments I read Assassin’s Blade first and I think that was the best option. Without spoilers..
There’s a few characters in AB that come back later in the series. By the time I got to where they came in, I had forgotten about some of them and was so excited to have them mentioned again. The ones I hadn’t forgotten about I just kept thinking they needed more page time.
I also think that reading AB first dives into Celanea’s back story and gives a good foundation for things that are referenced later. I feel like reading AB later would have me looking for something I missed, making me frustrated. Hope this helps!!!

Sylvie | 51 comments assassin's blade third, do a tendem read for tower of dawn and empire of storms, rest in order of release.

hani_171 | 141 comments assassins blade first because that gives you a basic background of the point where the next book starts from and makes you kinda like the character already

vivianna ♡☆ 🎧📖 (vivihdz_11) | 254 comments i’m currently working through heir of fire. I read assassin’s blade first and I agree with the comment that said a lot of references would’ve gone over my head if I hadn’t read it first. they’re subtle enough I probably wouldn’t have remembered them after they were mentioned if i’d read AB later on in the series. so personally I recommend it first. I think it makes more of an impact on her character knowing her backstory going into it

Payton Fox | 57 comments I tries to read tog glass first but wasn't sure what was going on so I read Assassin's Blade first and it really helped me to understand were she's at in the story and her relationship with Sam. definitely recomend reading Assassin's Blade first.

✨savi.reads.books✨ (savannah_lovely10) | 90 comments i havent read tog personally, but from reading the replies i would guess it depends on how much you want to know about the story at certain points. i once heard someone say to read it third because youre not supposed to know that much about certain parts of the story that early on, but if you care less about that then you should read it first. really just up to personal preference, i would also be curious as to what SJM herself would reccomend
edit: according to google SJM did say to read AB third, but again its up to you!
