Michael Khmelnitsky | 6 comments Hi, I'm not sure whether I'm posting to the right place, but I need some help. The situation is that I have changed my name.

* Is it possible to change the name on my profile?

* Could you please help me link my previous books listed on Goodreads to my profile even though the name is different?

Thank you in advance!

Scott | 8970 comments You are welcome to add text to your bio stating that you also write under that name, and use a link.

You cannot change your existing profile as that would obviously change the name on your books and be incorrect.

If you'd like to claim the other profile, you can do so with a different email address.

Michael Khmelnitsky | 6 comments Scott, thank you for the response. I'm willing to risk the name being incorrect (until the reissue of the second edition), because it is a deadname that I don't really want to use.

This aside, surely authors change their names all the time. Is there no mechanism for enabling a linkage between different author names on Goodreads?

You're misunderstanding. It's not up to you. We would not put an incorrect name on a book record. How can we have a proper database with wrong names on books? It wouldn't work.

As I said, you can add it to your bio.

Shim (slimmy) | 3539 comments As Scott mentioned, you can link between your author pages in your bio. You can use html to embed a link like this:

< a href="link-to-other-page.com">Some text< /a >

(without the extra spaces)

Other than that, there's nothing currently in the Goodreads system to link author pages unfortunately.

Michael Khmelnitsky | 6 comments Do you think I should ask for my books with my deadname to be removed from Goodreads, then? I've been very confused and frustrated by this process; any help would be greatly appreciated. 🩷

Books cannot be removed from the database.

I would suggest contacting Support (Staff)
https://www.goodreads.com/about/conta...

I would also suggest mentioning that you consider this name a deadname & why.

Good luck!

Edit: Be aware that there seems to be a massive backlog with contacting Support atm.

Michael Khmelnitsky | 6 comments P.S. It also seems like one solution has been to "ask the librarians to put your current profile name as a secondary author on the book"... See also: https://help.goodreads.com/s/question...

Is this still done?
