Sounds good...

For REV...I just scroll to the bottom of the page for the book I want to read and it tells me every friend that's read my book. Quicker than going through each friend's list...I prefer anyway....you do have to be 'friends' with your teamies for this to work though.

Have fun finding new books!

Yes, I understand that a lot of the names seem similar. I can't remember if the author included a family tree as that might help a bit. I really appreciate authors including maps and family trees of royal houses in their books. Years ago I bought posters and postcards with the family trees of the European royal houses, it helps me out a lot when reading history books. They weren't really creative at naming their kings & queens :)

Yes, there is a list of all of them and how they are connected. I relied on that a lot at the beginning trying to figure everyone out! I think I need something like your postcards, it would help sort everything out in my brain for who is contemporary!

Thanks for doing that and no worries on taking both cards. I was lucky with one book, not so much with the other. That's how it goes, I guess :).

How's everyone doing?
A status report...still 9 days to go for February :)

The mini is looking excellent!

It's possible for us to complete our deck if everyone is able to finish their books as indicated for the challenge...but, it's going to be tight.

We have 21 cards left to claim and we're under by 18 vs what we indicated we would read. I'll continue to read shorties to fill in some of holes...if anyone else is able to pick up a few extras we should be ok.

5s are sticking out...we have 1 in our 'my books also works for...' that we could move in to a 5slot...that leaves x3...so if you're trying to figure out what to read...keep a look out for books that work for that number.
I moved a few books around so we're down to just needing x1 7card.
The other needs are fairly-well evened out.

I added a space at the bottom if you happen to read for a book that you can't find a place for. Just put your book there if needed and we'll work on moving things around.

By the 23d-ish...if everyone could take a hard look and be sure whatever you've claimed, you'll for sure finish, that would be helpful. Still early...I'll leave a reminder about this next week.

Happy reading everyone!!

Something I read ended up working for 5. Little Secrets by Jennifer Hillier I currently have it for the 3 in Hand 6. I'm not sure if that's the one you are referring to, but I wanted to point it out because it ended up with a lot of extra things it could work for and I thought it could easily get overlooked.

I am currently working on the 2 remaining books I have claimed. I'm about 25% through The Wedding People by Alison Espach and I did not realize how long the chapters were going to be. I am doing the audio and the first one showed up as 167 minutes or something like that and I was not thrilled. The book is good so far, but I am definitely a short chapter person. (I do not currently have this slotted for the mini.)

I haven't made it very far in The Rosie Project (Don Tillman, #1) by Graeme Simsion yet, but I also haven't had much time to sit down and read a physical book in the past couple of days.

That being said, unless something unforeseen happens... I expect to finish both of those and could MAYBE pick up one more. My plan for my other challenge was to read The Supremes at Earl's All-You-Can-Eat (The Supremes, #1) by Edward Kelsey Moore if I can get to another book. Goodreads says it takes place in Plainview, Indiana. My understanding from previous years is that we have to use the most specific part of the place (in this case, Plainview), is that correct? Like if it only specifies Indiana, we could use that... but because a specific city is used, we can no longer use the state. I'm not sure if that makes sense. If we can use the state though, it could be a potential 5. I can also explore some other options... I basically just need to read a book where female friendship is a major part of the story. I'd love to read that one but I'm flexible if we need something else. Also, I may not even get to it, so this whole paragraph might be useless.

message 214: by Maria Jo (new)

Maria Jo | 87 comments I will finish the two books I have claimed, and hopefully at least one more short book. I'm keeping my eyes open for short books that work for a 5!

Thanks for the update Ashley! I highlighted that book with the backup 5...thanks for pointing it out!

RE location qualification. It's best to be as specific as possible. Honestly, I usually sway from using location because of uncertainty of 'specific'. It's hard to verify too. In you example...you are correct...
I do know we have at least one book with a state for a location qualification...I can't remember which. But I'll likely try to move things around if it's possible...just to avoid any questioning of the book.

I just read The Wedding People as well...I thought it was very good and am glad you are enjoying it!

Audrey Jane | 176 comments I've finished The Marsh King's Daughter which is a historical romance set in England during medieval times between 1216-1220. I liked the story and the historical setting and facts however I never warmed up to the main characters.

I will start reading The Warm Hands of Ghosts over the weekend and that will be my last book for this round.
Unfortunately I don't think I will be able to squeeze another book in :/

Hey everyone!
I'd like to ask that we all have a look at the SS and be sure anything that is on there to be claimed you'll finish.
Also, if you can take a look at the open spots...if it's possible for you to take 1 or 2 more, that would be great!

I did a quick update to the main on our completion...wanted to view our status.
There are a couple of teams that are almost finished...example Dr. Who is completed with 2570 points...still has 100 points left on the mini...note our max is 2800+
So if we can finish...it's likely we'll be at one of those top spots....thanks for all your reading...if we can finish not too last minute, we'd love to have everything updated before we call it a night on 2/28.

Happy Reading!

Christina T (crysteena73) | 26 comments Tammie messages me asking for a new book count. I'm on target for my new monthly book count of 20 books. I finished 3 books (just need to add to the SS) one of which was Slick which was a blue 3. It also works for author who identifies as LGBTQIA+ in case I don't get that one done in the mini we can use it there. I'm about to start my Murderbot book for the mini (#5 in Series as well). I'm finishing up the last claimed book of mine from the regular game either today or tomorrow (Transparent is a Color).

message 232: by Tammie (last edited Feb 22, 2025 12:24PM) (new)

Tammie | 1392 comments Christina it's helpful to know you'll finish 20...thanks for that update.

Remember we do have 2 pixie books as well....we can slide those in at the very end.

to be efficient...please just keep checking the ss...if it gets completed...anything we've started in February...as long as it was started after 2/1, we can carry over to March...as long as the book is finished in March.

For March...we'll have one more hand than we had in February...but we'll have 3 more days...so it's pretty much the same pace as February.

In April we lose a day and get yet another hand...so April is the toughest month of all.

I hope this message makes sense...please ask if it doesn't.

thanks everyone!

@Nistha and everyone...at this point...only put books on February that you will for sure finish. This way, if someone is idle they can grab whatever.

It's close, but we're an excellent team...we'll get this done!

Just over 6 days to go...

Christina...to be helpful I updated the WS with your completions...Slick, Dragon Force (added to main), Ghost of Truth and Angel of Death.
I did not place the books showing currently reading although per your post, I think one of them is on the WS. Feel free to fill in for possible back ups if you know of any I missed.

I noticed Fated Mates and When to Keep Them is on the mini but not on the main...I didn't want to go beyond messing with completed books...but if that one is planned...we can add that to the main as well.

We're glad to help with updated the WS, just message here on what needs doing.

I apologize for not noticing soon...your claim for The Frozen River calls for a 'white cover'. The cover needs to be at least 50% white and this book cover is not close to that...I'm going to see if there's a way to move things around...but wanted to bring this to your attention just in case you are reading this book specifically for this task. You didn't indicate any possible back up options at this time...sometimes it's hard to know until you've read the book.

‼️Team E.T.‼️Our March deck is ready for claims‼️
Another super grouping of cards for us. The deck is equally as difficult as last round...but we're fortunate to have a good number of 30pt cards and only x6 Draw2.

📗Hitting the more difficult cards up front prior to the mini is a good strategy...like last round, let's do what we can to get those color cards and REV cards taken care of 1st. Did you miss the yellow cards in February?...if so, here's you chance...we have x6 and the numbers are in our our favor :)

📗Like last month, let's limit our claims to what we'll read in 1 week until we get to the mini. There are lots of books to read, so don't feel like you need to hold back...we have an extra hand this round so we'll need a bit more reading to get the whole lot done.

📗You'll notice a change this round...there are now 'skip cards' that are colored. Those are worth 30 points vs 25.

📗On the SS...I deleted the formulas for all color cards and highlighted those fields...just put 30 pts there when you complete your book.

Summary of color cards also on our SS to the right of the deck

Christina T (crysteena73) | 26 comments Thanks for adding my books Tammie. I just popped in to do that. As for Fated Mates... I was going to find something else because it doesn't work with another challenge I'm doing but Slick will work for it and it's already completed. I'm halfway through my AI book. (Murderbot is really growing on me.... it's unexpectedly funny and now I'm thinking I need to go back and read them again.... I'll probably wait until one of my Challenges need the Sci-fi books though.)

I have several shorter books I'm reading this week so I might end up with 21 Completed for the month.

Thanks Christina...yeah, if you aren't reading Fated Mates, we'll need something to replace it for the mini. If you are still online, have a look and see if there is a way to move things around there...I think it's for LGBT...so it's possible we have another for that spot as several of us have read book with that genre.

Tammie | 1392 comments A few updates to the attention of:

@Nistha I moved 2 of your books up on to Hand 1, another to hand 11...traded with a books already read. I wanted to eliminate the more general tasks for location. This accomplished this.

@Christina you have one too on a completion...I'm still working on that one.

FYI for location, we need to be more specific. A country or state where there is reference in a book to a city/town does not fit the criteria for location. I find it best to avoid this criteria if we can. If it's not possible, I'd leave it...but because we can accomplish this, I've moved.

message 250: by Nistha (new)

Nistha | 28 comments Thanks Tammie. Maybe I missed in the rules, just to confirm what can confirm as a location? Eg. can we use country or does it need to be more specific?
