At my library! I'll put it on my tbr for a prospective REV...maybe next round :)

Ashley Elig | 689 comments We are filling up that mini fast! I put my 2 current reads which I am saving to finish tomorrow on there and then the next 2 which are also on our spreadsheet main page. I will hopefully get to more books than that, but am going to hold off on committing to anything else yet. One of the books that I want to get to will work for a few things that are still available on the mini.

message 154: by Tammie (new)

Tammie | 1392 comments Ashley this is exactly what we need to do.

I did add a spot at the bottom for finished books that don’t have a home on the mini because someone took the spot the book needs. This will be valuable as once we’ve finished there’s usually an option to move things around.

As books are moved, please be sure to delete them from the overflow chart.

:)

Anywhere in the title works! I did add your current book to the mini thinking you wouldn't be around until next week. You can move it wherever you like :) I had the advantage as I'd read, and absolutely loved Remarkably Bright Creatures!

Christina T (crysteena73) | 26 comments I'm not sure how many of the mini I should sign up for. Should I just wait and fill in as I finish books and if my finished book works for an already filled in spot stick it in a reserve area to be used if necessary?

My reading has slowed considerably this month with my new job and hours. I no longer have time to read at work. I didn't anticipate that when I signed up.

Hey Christina…if you can, could you approximate your revised number of books? We can request another reader for our team to fill in the gap. It’s understandable.

Re the mini…I put your name on places at the mini where you were the only person who put a ‘yes’ on our survey. If you have books you know you’ll read for those spots for sure, you could start there. I think claiming spots you’ll know for sure you’ll finish is fine…I personally try to claim what I think I’ll read in the coming week…sometimes a bit more…but you can do what you feel comfortable doing. We’ve about 2 weeks left obviously.

Re claims…moving forward through the conclusion of FEB, please only claim books/spots you know for sure you will finish.

@ Christina…I moved one of your finishes up to a WILD spot.

@ ALL…we’re fairly even on cards we’ve left to claim. There’s 2color cars left…9Blue and a WILD4. 1 REV. #4 and #7 x4 stand out a bit…

Enjoy your books! Please share any epic/awesome finds with the team :)

It looks like we are currently using a 9Blue for a Wild Draw 4 - so we could really be keeping an eye out for 2 Wild Draw 4s instead of necessarily sticking with the 9 Blue, correct?

I just finished both my holdovers, and marked them on the spreadsheet. The book I started yesterday, has a surprise V character, so it can be moved to one of the 7s if needed. It was one of those books where I was worried because based on the description/title/author, it hardly worked for anything... but within the first few chapters I got at least 3 additional options.

I also just want to throw this out there in case I haven't said it already... I am not committed to any of my spots. I would like colored covers to still count for colored covers but any of my numbers can be moved around as needed!

I'm hoping to get a lot of reading in this weekend and hopefully have a better idea of how many more books I can fit in this month. I've got eyes on some things that could be helpful if I can get to them.

I agree Ashley...that's me there with the 9Wild4. I chose to do that because it was higher up in our deck. If we don't finish, we'll only get points for hands in order. I'm hopeful that won't be the case.

I'm the same...am always glad to move my books to wherever.
If we've already entered a book to the main...just point things out here like you did today and we'll shuffle things.

We're required to report in with completions over the next few days...so you'll see us entering books to the main daily through Sunday.

Ashley Elig | 689 comments I decided to go ahead and do a reread of one of my favorite books The Rosie Project (Don Tillman, #1) by Graeme Simsion to go ahead and fill up one more Wild Draw 4 (Red 1) and then it will also work for neurodivergent character in the mini. Bonus points: it has a heart on the cover which is one of the prompts for my other challenge. I rarely reread books and I hope I love it as much this time as I did the first time!

...that was a good one...I read it many years ago...a sequel too if I remember correctly.

I've been doing less and less rereading...so many books...so little time...ahhhhh!

I've got a humorous-thriller-romance...that I just love (don't know why)...but I reread Mr. Perfect every couple of years. I also love to reread the Crossfire series now and then...it's pretty much erotica...but I love the characters in this series. Bared to You

Do any of you enjoy a book or 2 you like to regularly reread?

You saying that you read it many years ago made me look back to see when I read it originally. I read it and the sequel in 2017 and then the 3rd book when it came out in 2019. The 2nd one was definitely a disappointment for me.

I'm always fascinated by what people reread and how often. I don't think I've ever reread anything just because I wanted to reread it. The few times I've reread, it's a book that I've already read but it has been years since I read it and now my book club is reading it... or something like that. Sometimes I get a prompt to reread a book. This is probably the closest I've come to just because... and it's kind of just because but also because it works with a few prompts.

message 173: by Tammie (new)

Tammie | 1392 comments That's usually what happens with my couple of standbys...I love them...a prompt comes up...and wa-la! I've not got an excuse to read them...I know it's not quite the same ;)

message 174: by Maria Jo (new)

Maria Jo | 87 comments I find I rarely re-read anything, unless it is a beloved children's book like the Little House or Anne of Green Gables. I might if it was short and worked really well for a challenge. I definitely don't re-read anything every year or two.

I really loved the Crossfire series but I rarely re-read a book. The only series I'm re-reading is because the author added a lot more content.

The Dark Queens The Bloody Rivalry That Forged the Medieval World by Shelley Puhak

message 177: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Elig | 689 comments Am I crazy or are the words on the top a different color than the author’s name? I feel like the ones on the top match the crown which makes them seem gold… but the author’s name seems slightly more yellow. I still think it should count for gold though. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thanks Nistha! Be sure to add everything! Also, you can claim books too...we are focusing on February at this point. There is also a 'mini' challenge...hopefully you've read about that...books finished after February 14 can work for that. If you have books that fit, but spots are taken, put them at the bottom of the mini page and we'll try to move things around.

I read about everyone - it's great to be in a team where we have both experienced and new players (and chatty team!)! A little bit about myself below..

📘 I am Nistha, from India originally but currently living in London with my husband. I work in finance so its pretty crazy hours - I try to do reading whenever I have some time left. Audiobooks are my new music at work haha. My other hobbies include writing and dancing.
I haven't watched E.T. but heard good things.
I quite like chatting with my team mates and planning things out in advance. Afterall challenges help me finish much more books.
📗 This is my first time in UNO
📒 .. so no strategy
📕 As genres, I like thriller and romance most.. but my my favourites mostly tend to be historical/literary fiction :p Below to name a few..
A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini The Book Thief by Markus Zusak Bunny (Bunny, #1) by Mona Awad Clytemnestra by Costanza Casati The Mindf*ck Series (Mindf*ck, #1-5) by S.T. Abby This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar

I don't have any specific book in my mind as I am more. a mood reader. This year I am really into manga - but bummer can't really use them as I dont get the word count from the website

It's interesting to me because I feel like thrillers are my favorite genre to read, but I also don't find many thrillers making it into my favorites list. Perhaps it's because they are typically just more of an adventure that doesn't really change/stick with a person?

message 192: by Maria Jo (new)

I am enjoying it so far! It's taking me a little longer to read than I would like because the names are throwing me off a little, but I think I'm far enough in now that I have it all straight in my head.

Haswanthi | 40 comments Hey, I just completed November 9—didn’t like it very much. Can anyone suggest romances with actually likable male characters?

message 194: by Nistha (new)

Nistha | 28 comments Ashley, on thrillers I think the main issue according to me is most are kind of one time reads - once you know the mystery/reveal then I become less motivated to read it again. Also, I have read so many thrillers (before joining GR), that I have even forgotten what the whole plot was about haha!

Haswanthi, have you tried Mariana Zapata? She is quite slow burn but I love her male leads.

Tammie | 1392 comments I've read all but one Zapata book...I think my favorites were Kulti by Mariana Zapata All Rhodes Lead Here by Mariana Zapata
Mystery Man (Dream Man, #1) by Kristen Ashley The Gamble (Colorado Mountain, #1) by Kristen Ashley Kristen Ashley is pretty good too if you like racey romance...
Both of these authors drone on and on a bit...

I also like anything Virgin River (Virgin River, #1) by Robyn Carr

Just in case you've never done it...a suggestion...if you go to a 'friend's page and under 'more' then > compare books...you can get a good idea on how you might like some of the more specific books you have in common....to dig in on whether you are more likely to see eye-to-eye with our suggestions, genre tags, etc :)

A fairly new to me author that I'm loving is Chloe Liese I've read several of her Bergman brothers books and I've rated all 4.5 or 5 star. Great heroes.
