Should Some Books be Banned? If So, Which Ones?

Are these types of books really in elementary schools!?!?!? I feel you'd be right for kids, but middle school and high school should be educated on what it is, whether they agree or disagree. I was very uneducated on what it was, and the only information i was able to access was very misleading and caused me to unintentionally insult many people.

no. they are not in middle schools either.
Jeremiah(God's Guy) wrote: Yes! And a lot of them teach KIDS how to be gay and trans.jeremiah my brother in christ these books aren't "teaching kids how to be gay and trans" trust me on this one honey 🙏 im afraid that isn't how it works. the gays aren't trying to convert ppl, lowk we js want to be left alone tbh 😭
in regards to red, white, and royal blue, i agree with you that it should not be in school libraries. it is simply an adult/older teen book, as are many straight/cis books with sex scenes in them if that was the point you were making. on the other hand, if the point you were making was that it shouldn't be in libraries because of lgbtq content, i absolutely do not agree with you. there should definitely be books in school libraries with AGE APPROPRIATE lgbtq content
picture this:
everybody likes vanilla ice cream. your parents, your teachers, your friends, your grandma, and every other person you've ever talked to since you gained societal awareness.
but here's the thing. you like strawberry ice cream. soon, that's all you can think about. is there something wrong with you? you're not sure, but there has to be, right? after all, no one else likes strawberry ice cream. so you hide it. you ask for vanilla ice cream.
"it's my favorite," you lie, thinking about the strawberry ice cream the whole time.
but then, one day, you're reading a book from your school library, you find out that the main character also likes strawberry ice cream. after that, you realize you aren't alone. other people like strawberry ice cream too! there is nothing wrong with you, and after a while you might feel more comfortable with your preferences.
after all, you can't exactly control it, can you?

yesss. as long as the book doesn't promote violence or drugs or something else awful and depraved, then there's no reason to ban it. If there are sex scenes, then remove it from elementary/middle school libraries. those are literally the only constraints i can think of.

@Jeremiah it is something that shouldn’t be totally banned though and is part of free will that should be able to be read once at a certain age or with parents permission just because for many reasons you don’t agree with that doesn’t mean that you and others with the same viewpoint can control it for everyone. That is the same mindset that bans books with racism, or abuse, or any other controversial concept(that is not political) and when those are banned you learn not to understand how to maybe recognize abuse or the affects your actions might have on others!
@jeremiah while it might be evil, you have to be able to consider this situation through all points of views.

it's not evil. sex is not a bad thing--- i mean, it's very natural. i know a lot of people who hate smut, and that's also literally fine. but sex isn't like drugs or violence--- it's not harmful to anyone or anything (unless it's not consensual, which is a different issue). just because some people despise it, for religious reasons or personal reasons or whatever, doesn't mean we should ban it. reading a sex scene isn't harmful. it's just a personal preference. like my sister hates having spice in her books. i'm fine with it, i don't usually care. and you may not be fine with it, or love it. but how does this translate to a reason to ban it?

I agree with @sai. no one is asking you to bring these books into your home, or to read them at all. just because a book isn't banned, that doesn't mean you have to read it. if it has something it it you don't prefer, just don't read it pls 🙏
Jeremiah(God's Guy) wrote: "How many of you are Christians?"You realize that even if we are Christians it doesnt mean we have to agree with you right? There is more to think about than just what you believe with your faith and it is not your choice to make the decision that books should be banned for others sure no smut in schools before a certain point if other i can agree with as well as no extreme violence or drugs but who are you to tell people you have no control of what to read? God gave us free will to make our own choices and by trying to ban books just because you dont agree with them means you are trying to take away a God given right

You said you are a Christian. As a Christian, you should be against it. Even if it is not in your home. Ofc you aren't going to go into peoples houses and remove the books. It is their decision. But we can agree that it is evil, right?

Sex outside of marriage is CLEARLY wrong in the Bible. And it IS in the New Testament. And the Old Testament.

i am not a christian, but even if i was extremely committed to a religion that forbade porn/smut/spice, i wouldn't be against putting it in books or banning books that contain it. that makes zero sense. who gave certain people the right to control what others, who have no relation to them, read?

problem: 100% of people do not agree with this statement. their god may be different. they may be less strict with their religion. so why are you allowed to control what they read?

Jeremiah(God's Guy) wrote: "✿ Lily the Lilac ✿ wrote: "How so?"Matthew 5:27-28"
Alright, that's fine if it's what you believe. But other people believe different things, so why should your specific religion dictate what other people read? It's completely fine if you don't want to read books with spice, but so what if other people want to? It's their lives, not yours.
Also, respectfully pointing out, it says looking upon a woman lustfully is considered adultery. But what about if a woman looked upon a man lustfully? Does that still count?

people always cite parental rights as a reason for banning certain books, but then aren't you violating the parental rights of the people who want their kids to be able to read those books? no one gets the authority to determine what people WHO HAVE ZERO RELATION TO THEM get to read. that is genuinely insane.
how is it fair that a person who i've never met, never heard of, never talked to gets to tell me that i can't read a certain book because of THEIR personal religious beliefs?
