Blue Ghost | 2 comments I work at a used bookstore—we're talking lowbrow, 60's to 80's pulp, kitchy chrome covers displaying breasts, biceps, straps and spandex. We've got Anne McCaffrey, David Eddings, Robert Heinlein, Marion Zimmer Bradley, all of William Shatner's fan-fiction for some reason, etc. Essentially, every author that has written 20+ books within the last 60 years is somewhere on our shelves.

A good portion of our clientele don't come in with a book or even an author in mind. Usually, the transients simply want an easy read for a plane ride. They'll tell me they want a fantasy book—no other hints given—then ask me to pick out a few options for them.

What authors and/or books would you recommend and why? (e.g. Douglas Adams for his wit and ability to make mirth from the mundane.)

Netanella | 334 comments Piers Anthony's Xanthx series, as there's a buttload of them.

Terry Pratchett, of course, for his Discworld series.
