Caleigh Rose (caleighrosebud) I can't remember if I've posted her or not but I'm Caleigh, 21, very forgetful. I've been job hunting like crazy and currently I'm living with my girlfriend for the summer. I enjoy fantasy and romance the best. J.K. Rowling and John Green tie as my favorite authors. :)

Charlie (charlievcook) Hi, I'm Charlie.
I currently study law at university but will graduate in July so am currently rushing around trying to figure out what to do next.
I love reading. At the minute I'm reading A Dance With Dragons, I've heard the Game of Thrones TV series is amazing but intend to read the books first as I'm convinced they will be better.
I'm friendly enough so feel free to drop me a line on here or @charlievg93 on twitter. Nice to meet you all. :)

Devyn | 1 comments Hello, my name is Devyn. I am a sophomore at Eastern Michigan University. I plan to go into the nursing program and later get a job in the ER or do some travel nursing. I really enjoy books, new or old as long as it peeks my interest I'll read it.

D.D. Parker (dd_parker) | 1 comments Hey everyone! D.D. here :) 23 and living out in Los Angeles. I moved out here once I got my bachelor's degree to pursue a career in the film industry. Now I'm enjoying being a writer and binging on Reno 911.

message 856: by Ema Fortunova (last edited Jun 19, 2014 08:11PM) (new)

Ema Fortunova (emaf) Hey guys, I am also new to the group! Although I joined a little while ago, this is my first post ever :)

So my name is Ema (pronounced like Emma, but slightly misspelled by my immigrant parents). I live in Canada, currently the city of Montreal, but hope to move to Vancouver in 2015.

I'm 22 years old and in my last year of Mcgill university. I'm doing a Commerce bachelor, major in Finance and a minor concentration in German. I wish to go back to school later, but I'm still not sure in what as I haven't really discovered my path in life or how my passions could be applied in the workforce... speaking of which, I have a huge interest in environmental preservation (especially of our beautiful oceans), helping communities and working towards a better, more sustainable world for the generations after us.

Finally some of my favorite hobbies include reading (obviously) and baking...and eating baked goods while reading an awesome book :)

message 857: by Sam (new)

Sam | 5 comments Hi all, I'm Sam. I'm 23, and just graduated from the University of Wisconsin (Go Badgers!). I have a degree in microbiology but a minor in English. I have always loved reading and enveloping myself in new and exciting worlds! Most of the books I read lately are dystopian because they're everywhere right now, but I want to get back into reading the classics and really reading to appreciate literature. I love discussing books because I get so much more out of it after I've had good back and forth with someone over it. It just rounds out the whole reading experience. Excited to meet people with similar interests. :)

Gina (bookishgina) | 28 comments Hello! I'm Gina, just stumbled upon group and thought it looked like it would be worth joining. I'm 23 and a recent grad from Webster University with a BA in Psychology. I have recently become addicted to goodreads even though I have had one for a few years now. I'm very excited to finally have free time to read again. :) Looking forward to the group!

message 859: by Red (last edited Jul 03, 2014 07:52PM) (new)

Red | 1 comments Hello? I go by Red. I'm from Philippines. I am new here in goodreads and I thought joining your group would be nice. I like books a lot, I don't think it's even healthy. Every once in a while, I read dystopian fictions but most of the time I read contemporary YA to keep my book cravings at bay. I also like mystery and thriller for when I'm in the mood to learn from fictional lawyers and detectives. I hope you would like to have me here. :)

message 860: by Kate (new)

Kate | 13 comments Hi there! My name is Kate and I'm a 22 year old recent grad from the University of Toledo with a bachelors in nursing. I'm currently working as a cardiac ICU nurse and preparing to go back to school for my masters. I stumbled across Goodreads (and this group) while meandering around the internet looking for book suggestions and fellow book worms. My favorite books are Harry Potter, the Mortal Instruments series and Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand (quite eclectic, I suppose). Looking forward to finishing I Am Pilgrim and discussing it with all of you!
Cheers,

message 861: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Hi everyone!
My name is Jackie :) I'm 28 and originally from Texas, but currently living in the DC area. I just started working on my Masters of Higher Education Administration at SNHU. My undergrad degree is in Biology from UTSA. I love love love science, but I found my calling to be in academics. I have a three pound teacup chihuahua named Lola. I enjoy running and reading, but I don't recommend doing them at the same time. It gets tricky. Anyway, I'm glad I found this group! I'm always open to new book recommendations.

Adam Buongiovanni (adambongo) | 3 comments Hey everyone! My name is Adam Buongiovanni, I'm a 21 year old college Senior attending Rutgers University majoring in psychology. My current source of income and my passion is making YouTube videos on two different YouTube channels. This summer, after reading textbook after textbook throughout college, I've rediscovered my love for reading. I look forward to discussing pretty much anything with you all and learning more about different books as well as about you all!

message 863: by Mike (new)

Mike Anastasia (mikeanastasia) | 10 comments Hello all!

My name is Mike, a 25 year old graduate student at Temple University. I joined this group as part of an assignment incentive to help review books included on my various syllabi. My course-load typically includes 3-4 academic narratives per week, so I'm hoping to develop a nice set of precis for those works. I already have a Master's in History and I'm getting a second in Secondary Education.

I hated Harry Potter as a child because my 6th grade teachers (all seven of them) made us watch the first movie like 4 times each (in an attempt to get us into reading) and it just completely scarred me away from reading the series as a whole. I just read all seven last summer and I've been kicking myself since. I now think it's one of the best series I've ever read. My favorite author is Tolkien, and the Middle-Earth world is one of my favorites.

I like to write when I get bored and I'm also down to read and edit someone's work of fiction, if they're ever in need. My editing has been described as Fascist, but people generally make productive changes to the composition of their work after getting my input.

My book review twitter is @MJABooks and I follow other reviewers back, so feel free to add me.

This is the first week I knew this website existed and I've already had a good time with it; here's to hoping for more of the same!

Never underestimate the power of school to destroy someone's interest in reading. Almost crushed my interests too. I became far less likely to explore literature when I was in school.

I hail from Kolkata, India and am a Computer Science Undergrad.I love football(The original European one) and am an Manchester United ultra. Reading books is actually one of my favorite hobbies, tied with rooting for my team. And if i did have to pick one of the books that influenced me the most, it would be The Fountainhead.

Hi!

I am Breana and I am going to be 20 next month. I'm in my second year of college and I have no idea what I want to do. It seems everything I like isn't in demand. I am from Minnesota and it isn't as bad as everyone says. The winter I guess can be bad.

Hmm... I do enjoy writing, primarily fantasy. My stories usually have swords in them, but I am trying to get out of that habit, lol.

Genres I like are fantasy, sci-fi, romance, and paranormal. I am trying to expand my horizons though.

message 867: by Miriam (new)

Miriam Hello!! I am Miriam and I am a college student studying English literature and Spanish My favorite novelists are Vladimir Nabokov Vladimir Nabokov , Haruki Murakami Haruki Murakami , Pamela Moore, and Kōbō Abe Kōbō Abe . I hope to join in some great discussions about books and literature. I am always interested to hear what people have to say about what they are reading. I am always open to new book suggestions, so feel free to friend me and we can share book ideas!

Thank you, Adam! Well, I am trying to get into it more. I haven't read much from it besides short stories, The Giver, The Hunger Games, and The Host. Those ones I really liked. Do you have any suggestions?

Adam | 83 comments Bre wrote: "Thank you, Adam! Well, I am trying to get into it more. I haven't read much from it besides short stories, The Giver, The Hunger Games, and The Host. Those ones I really liked. Do you have any sugg..."

I really enjoyed The Hunger Games too, although I think that is more of a dystopia setting. I read across so many genres that I haven't read a ton of sci-fi either. Right now I am reading books by William Gibson, his most famous book is "Neuromancer", which I own but haven't read yet. I've finished "Idoru" and am working on "Virtual Light" now. He's a strange author... attributed with creating the Cyberpunk type of genre and he's the reason we use the word "cyberspace" when talking about the internet. His writing is a little strange, but I like it. He seems to start his books in a sort of meandering fashion where you get bits and pieces of settings and characters until about half-way through a truly coherent story shines through.

I've also enjoyed "Sphere" and "Timeline" by Michael Crichton. I like Fantasy as well and you might like "Timeline" a lot since you liked both genres. The movie for "Timeline" wasn't very good though, at least I didn't like it. Other than that, I read a lot of franchise sci-fi. So books written in the Aliens, Star Trek: TNG, and other pre-made settings. I'm trying to branch out into more original works though... so I'm reading things like Gibson.

message 871: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, I do believe books cross other genres as well, but the Hunger Games does have the future post-apocalyptic feel to it. Wow, I can't remember what caused it to be that way.

The title "Neuromancer" sounds interesting, I will have to look it up. It sort of reminds me of necromancer, but it must do with the brain or nerves.

Thanks for the suggestions! I will check out those books!

Adam | 83 comments Bre wrote: "Well, I do believe books cross other genres as well, but the Hunger Games does have the future post-apocalyptic feel to it. Wow, I can't remember what caused it to be that way.

That's true... I think I put it in the dystopia genre mostly because it is more about how society has fallen apart rather than "look at all the cool new technology!" Also, a lot of people don't have access to that technology. On that note, the Crichton books I listed are usually found in general fiction for that reason. Although "Sphere" is pretty sci-fi themed.

message 873: by [deleted user] (new)

That is true. They mainly did all the new technology at the Capitol or the Hunger Games itself. I don't remember much of Mockingjay though. I haven't read that one in a while.

That is a good point. :)

Okay.

message 874: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Yopp | 1 comments Hello! My name is Brittany and I'm a Junior at a UNC system school. I'm a triple major in Religious Studies, Art History, and Pre-Physical Therapy.

I just finished reading I Remember You by Harriet Evans and it made me realize that it's okay for me to like books that aren't aimed at teens anymore despite how many of them are total page turners.

Welp, that's a little about me!

message 875: by Ted (new)

Ted (tsw11) | 1 comments I'm Ted and I am a 5th year senior studying political science. I am currently reading "The Price of Silence" - a book about the Duke University Lacrosse rape case. It is very detailed and quite riveting. I like political books along with the classics, philosophy, economics, and law.

message 876: by Melinda (new)

Melinda | 26 comments Hi, I'm Melinda. I'm currently taking classes full time at my local community college and working part time at the public library. My major is library science.

I want to get my masters in library science and be a children's librarian. I believe that a child's experience at a young age with libraries can greatly impact their attitude towards reading. I want to be the kind of librarian who helps a child develop a lifelong love for reading.

I love reading and will give pretty much any book a chance. my favorite books... well there are too many to name here.

Giulia Seminatore | 2 comments I'm Giulia! Just graduated from UCSB with a BA in Psychology in June and want to get back into reading. I used to read a lot, but just couldn't find as much time in college between work and classes. I figured here would be a good place to find some good recommendations and people to discuss with!

message 883: by Erica (new)

Erica (_divingunder) Hello everyone, my name is Erica and I'm 20 years old. I'm a junior in college working towards my Bachelor in Accounting. I have not found my calling in life yet. Where everyone seems to know what they want to do or are completely passionate about something, that's not me, though I wish it were. I have been with the love of my life for 2 and a half years and I could not be happier. Reading definitely is my safe haven. I am a complete homebody and rarely ever go out, but I am not one to be shy. I do not know what else to say for right now so that would be it.

Can't wait to see how joining this group goes :)

message 885: by Maggie (new)

Maggie Hi! I'm Maggie and a freshman in college. I found this group through the "Broke and Bookish" blog, which I followed religiously until google reader quit a few years ago. Only just remembered about it today! Is it still being updated? I couldn't tell.

I'm studying English-education to teach middle school or high school eventually and hope to also advocate on the behalf of failing public schools and the lack of education in developing countries. My favorite books are Pride and Prejudice, Anne of Green Gables, Anna and the French Kiss, Divergent, and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society :) Thanks for having me!

message 886: by Monica (new)

Monica Fastenau | 40 comments So I've been a member of this group for a few weeks, but I just realized I haven't introduced myself yet...

I'm Monica, and I'm a 24-year-old recent college grad. I teach music lessons and I'm a voracious reader (I post book reviews on my blog, NewberyandBeyond.com). As there aren't many people my age in the city I live in now (SWFL seems devoid of people in their early 20s), I'm excited to meet some new book-reading friends here!

Emily (em_nelsonn) Hello! I'm a little late to the game. I'm Emily. 25 years old living in Wisconsin at the moment but originally from Minnesota and missing it terribly. Graduated from college in 2012 with a BS in elementary education, but sadly did not get into where my true passion is which is library science (WHY DID I NOT GET MY MEDIA SPECIALIST DEGREE?). Just finished The Sea of Tranquility (loved it!) and am currently waiting on my next read (I have books to pick up at the library and Christmas money to burn). I would try to tell you what I love reading, but it's probably just easier for you to look at my profile. Not sure what else to add but I'm excited to join a group of fellow book lovers and to make new friends here!

Mike Anastasia (mikeanastasia) | 10 comments Welcome new friends! :D I hope you all had a very merry Christmas!

message 890: by Meli (new)

Meli (meli1mag) Hi!
I'm not really sure how this works or even if this is really my thing, but I want to get more active in the Goodreads community and I wanted to try out a group like this! Up until now I've been safely cocooned in my little Goodreads profile without actually interacting with anybody so I'd like to step out of my comfort zone and meet you all!

My name is Melissa and I'm currently a sophomore in college in Florida. My majors are International Affairs and Political Science with minors in French and Women's Studies. After I took AP English Lang in high school is when I really got into reading, and I've been hooked ever since! :) I love learning about different cultures, ideas and perspectives, which really goes hand and hand with my IA major and reading itself.

What kind of books do you all generally read each month? And where can I see the books that were decided on for January? I saw the other thread where everyone nominated them but after that, there are no posts stating the winners.

Thanks you all and have a great new year's eve!

message 893: by Will (new)

Will | 1 comments Hi, I'm Will. I'm a sophomore at UNLV. I was pre-med, but I've finally settled on being a Geology major with a minor in German.
I got into reading in 10th grade after I had to pick an out-of-class reading book. I chose the first book that had an interesting spine, and I really liked it. Now I read all the time.
My favorite books are The Sun Also Rises, The Atticus Kodiak series by Greg Rucka. I most recently finished The Secret History by Donna Tartt, and it's now also one of my favorites. Now I'm working on a book called Bravo. It's by Greg Rucka too. I don't like this series as much as his others, but since I like his other books, I'm reading this too.

Sara (saraa205) | 76 comments Hi everyone! My name is Sara and I'm a 23-year-old med student from Sweden. I've always enjoyed reading, as a child and as a teenager I read one book a day, but sadly the last years have been hard on my reading time. It was first this autumn, during my fourth and penultimate fall semester, that I've found a way to keep up my reading, kind of. Don't know why I haven't realized that you can actually read literature too during your college years during those earlier years, strange.

Before my reading hiatus I mostly read fantasy and YA, but now when I've returned to the world of literature I've mostly read short stories, gothic tales, Rainbow Rowell and Gillian Flynn. The last novel I read was "The Likeness" by Tana French, which I love. Felt very "The Secret History"-esque.

I am living in Guam right now but I was born and raised in Hawaii. I love to read, but with school and work (both full time), I haven't had a chance to really sit down and enjoy a good book lately. I hope that changes because I miss reading for fun. I'm sort of new to Goodreads but I'm enjoying it so far. I'm a huge fan of YA books, mostly because it gives me a chance to escape and a lot of the characters I can relate to. Nice to meet everyone and I can't wait to interact with you all!

Oh, and right now I am currently reading 1929: Book One :)
