I currently study law at university but will graduate in July so am currently rushing around trying to figure out what to do next.
I love reading. At the minute I'm reading A Dance With Dragons, I've heard the Game of Thrones TV series is amazing but intend to read the books first as I'm convinced they will be better.
I'm friendly enough so feel free to drop me a line on here or @charlievg93 on twitter. Nice to meet you all. :)

I am new to the group just joined today actually! To tell you a little bit about myself. I just finished my freshman year of college and i will be starting my sophomore year in the fall. I attend Bethel College in Indiana. I am a major in psychology with a youth ministry minor. I plan to be a counselor for abused kids. once i graduate i will get my masters in counseling teens/children.
In my spare time i love to read. i dont get to read that much during college but you can always find me with my nose in a book. I love any book that can grab your attention from the start. I am excited to be apart of this group and to get to know some of you guys.
Thank you for creating this group!

So my name is Ema (pronounced like Emma, but slightly misspelled by my immigrant parents). I live in Canada, currently the city of Montreal, but hope to move to Vancouver in 2015.
I'm 22 years old and in my last year of Mcgill university. I'm doing a Commerce bachelor, major in Finance and a minor concentration in German. I wish to go back to school later, but I'm still not sure in what as I haven't really discovered my path in life or how my passions could be applied in the workforce... speaking of which, I have a huge interest in environmental preservation (especially of our beautiful oceans), helping communities and working towards a better, more sustainable world for the generations after us.
Finally some of my favorite hobbies include reading

Cheers,

My name is Jackie :) I'm 28 and originally from Texas, but currently living in the DC area. I just started working on my Masters of Higher Education Administration at SNHU. My undergrad degree is in Biology from UTSA. I love love love science, but I found my calling to be in academics. I have a three pound teacup chihuahua named Lola. I enjoy running and reading, but I don't recommend doing them at the same time. It gets tricky. Anyway, I'm glad I found this group! I'm always open to new book recommendations.

My name is Mike, a 25 year old graduate student at Temple University. I joined this group as part of an assignment incentive to help review books included on my various syllabi. My course-load typically includes 3-4 academic narratives per week, so I'm hoping to develop a nice set of precis for those works. I already have a Master's in History and I'm getting a second in Secondary Education.
I hated Harry Potter as a child because my 6th grade teachers (all seven of them) made us watch the first movie like 4 times each (in an attempt to get us into reading) and it just completely scarred me away from reading the series as a whole. I just read all seven last summer and I've been kicking myself since. I now think it's one of the best series I've ever read. My favorite author is Tolkien, and the Middle-Earth world is one of my favorites.
I like to write when I get bored and I'm also down to read and edit someone's work of fiction, if they're ever in need. My editing has been described as Fascist, but people generally make productive changes to the composition of their work after getting my input.
My book review twitter is @MJABooks and I follow other reviewers back, so feel free to add me.
This is the first week I knew this website existed and I've already had a good time with it; here's to hoping for more of the same!

Never underestimate the power of school to destroy someone's interest in reading. Almost crushed my interests too. I became far less likely to explore literature when I was in school.

Hi!
I am Breana and I am going to be 20 next month. I'm in my second year of college and I have no idea what I want to do. It seems everything I like isn't in demand. I am from Minnesota and it isn't as bad as everyone says. The winter I guess can be bad.
Hmm... I do enjoy writing, primarily fantasy. My stories usually have swords in them, but I am trying to get out of that habit, lol.
Genres I like are fantasy, sci-fi, romance, and paranormal. I am trying to expand my horizons though.

Welcome. Glad to see another sci-fi fan around!
Thank you, Adam! Well, I am trying to get into it more. I haven't read much from it besides short stories, The Giver, The Hunger Games, and The Host. Those ones I really liked. Do you have any suggestions?

I really enjoyed The Hunger Games too, although I think that is more of a dystopia setting. I read across so many genres that I haven't read a ton of sci-fi either. Right now I am reading books by William Gibson, his most famous book is "Neuromancer", which I own but haven't read yet. I've finished "Idoru" and am working on "Virtual Light" now. He's a strange author... attributed with creating the Cyberpunk type of genre and he's the reason we use the word "cyberspace" when talking about the internet. His writing is a little strange, but I like it. He seems to start his books in a sort of meandering fashion where you get bits and pieces of settings and characters until about half-way through a truly coherent story shines through.
I've also enjoyed "Sphere" and "Timeline" by Michael Crichton. I like Fantasy as well and you might like "Timeline" a lot since you liked both genres. The movie for "Timeline" wasn't very good though, at least I didn't like it. Other than that, I read a lot of franchise sci-fi. So books written in the Aliens, Star Trek: TNG, and other pre-made settings. I'm trying to branch out into more original works though... so I'm reading things like Gibson.
Well, I do believe books cross other genres as well, but the Hunger Games does have the future post-apocalyptic feel to it. Wow, I can't remember what caused it to be that way.
The title "Neuromancer" sounds interesting, I will have to look it up. It sort of reminds me of necromancer, but it must do with the brain or nerves.
Thanks for the suggestions! I will check out those books!

That's true... I think I put it in the dystopia genre mostly because it is more about how society has fallen apart rather than "look at all the cool new technology!" Also, a lot of people don't have access to that technology. On that note, the Crichton books I listed are usually found in general fiction for that reason. Although "Sphere" is pretty sci-fi themed.
That is true. They mainly did all the new technology at the Capitol or the Hunger Games itself. I don't remember much of Mockingjay though. I haven't read that one in a while.
That is a good point. :)
Okay.
That is a good point. :)
Okay.

I just finished reading I Remember You by Harriet Evans and it made me realize that it's okay for me to like books that aren't aimed at teens anymore despite how many of them are total page turners.
Welp, that's a little about me!

I want to get my masters in library science and be a children's librarian. I believe that a child's experience at a young age with libraries can greatly impact their attitude towards reading. I want to be the kind of librarian who helps a child develop a lifelong love for reading.
I love reading and will give pretty much any book a chance. my favorite books... well there are too many to name here.

That is a truly inspiring life path to take! I wish you all the luck :)

Can't wait to see how joining this group goes :)

I'm studying English-education to teach middle school or high school eventually and hope to also advocate on the behalf of failing public schools and the lack of education in developing countries. My favorite books are Pride and Prejudice, Anne of Green Gables, Anna and the French Kiss, Divergent, and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society :) Thanks for having me!

I'm Monica, and I'm a 24-year-old recent college grad. I teach music lessons and I'm a voracious reader (I post book reviews on my blog, NewberyandBeyond.com). As there aren't many people my age in the city I live in now (SWFL seems devoid of people in their early 20s), I'm excited to meet some new book-reading friends here!

I'm not really sure how this works or even if this is really my thing, but I want to get more active in the Goodreads community and I wanted to try out a group like this! Up until now I've been safely cocooned in my little Goodreads profile without actually interacting with anybody so I'd like to step out of my comfort zone and meet you all!
My name is Melissa and I'm currently a sophomore in college in Florida. My majors are International Affairs and Political Science with minors in French and Women's Studies. After I took AP English Lang in high school is when I really got into reading, and I've been hooked ever since! :) I love learning about different cultures, ideas and perspectives, which really goes hand and hand with my IA major and reading itself.
What kind of books do you all generally read each month? And where can I see the books that were decided on for January? I saw the other thread where everyone nominated them but after that, there are no posts stating the winners.
Thanks you all and have a great new year's eve!

I'm a part-time student majoring in Business Management. I'm currently working full time and I also blog over at Say It with Books.
Right now my favorites are I Am the Messenger, Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe and The Raven Boys series. :D

I got into reading in 10th grade after I had to pick an out-of-class reading book. I chose the first book that had an interesting spine, and I really liked it. Now I read all the time.
My favorite books are The Sun Also Rises, The Atticus Kodiak series by Greg Rucka. I most recently finished The Secret History by Donna Tartt, and it's now also one of my favorites. Now I'm working on a book called Bravo. It's by Greg Rucka too. I don't like this series as much as his others, but since I like his other books, I'm reading this too.

Friend requests are always welcome!

Before my reading hiatus I mostly read fantasy and YA, but now when I've returned to the world of literature I've mostly read short stories, gothic tales, Rainbow Rowell and Gillian Flynn. The last novel I read was "The Likeness" by Tana French, which I love. Felt very "The Secret History"-esque.

Hey Will, I am also doing a minor in German :) what level are you in? Also have you ever visited Germany? (I'm hoping to be able to go this summer!)

Oh, and right now I am currently reading 1929: Book One :)
