Christie | 133 comments Hi, Marian! It's nice to meet you too. :)

message 652: by Marx (new)

Marx Leo Hello my name is Mary. I am a college student living in Milwaukee. I'm a kinesiology major graduating this May. I love to read and it gets to be a problem because it gets in the way of my school work. I'm new to the group and exited to jump into the discussions going on.

message 653: by Christie (new)

Christie | 133 comments Hi, Mary! Welcome to the group. : ) I am having the same problem trying to keep myself away from the books I'm reading until I've done enough schoolwork for the day. It's a good motivation to work quickly though!

message 654: by Flora (new)

Flora (harvardflora) Hello everyone. :D I'm a poli sci major, ready to graduate in 2 months but completely lost and a lit scared of the real world. I speak 3 languages fluently (would that help with job hunting? *fingers crossed*) and love to read.

As everyone else, I'm currently struggling to submit essays on time and prepare for final exams. Very stressful period but logging on GR had helped me to cope with the stress.

Anyway nice to meet you all. :D

Christie | 133 comments Hi, Flora. Welcome! It's nice to meet you too. What languages do you speak? (It definitely helps to be trilingual for certain jobs.) =)

message 656: by Flora (new)

Flora (harvardflora) Hello Christie! English, French, and Chinese. In the process of learning Spanish!

message 657: by Christie (new)

Christie | 133 comments Fantastic! (Also, GR helps me de-stress too. But I have to be careful not to lose track of time!) : )

message 658: by Maggie (new)

Maggie O (thenameismac) Hello All,

My name is Maggie and like all of you I love to read. At the moment I am 23 years old. I have two jobs (one full time and one part time) and go to school. I work anywhere from 40-72 hours a week working and spend about 9 hours in a classroom a week. I somehow manage to find time to study and I sleep on the nights I'm not working. I also love to write but that's nonexistant right now.
I love to read new and interesting books but since I don't have much time to read my goal is 12 books this year. I just finished reading "Thirteen Reasons Why" by Jay Asher and am currently reading Emma by Jane Austen.
I suppose that is all for now. If you have any questions just let me know. I'd love to find people in my area who have similar schedules (i.e. work and school, or work and family, or family and school, etc.)and similar interests. That is all.

Rachelia (Bookish Comforts) (bookishcomforts) Hi everyone! My name is Rachelia, and I'm a 21 year old university student (taking history and gender studies) who lives at home with her parents in Canada. I just started a book blog {Bookish Comforts} and am trying to get more involved in the book community.

I'm excited for school to be done in August so that I can have much more time to read all the books on my list! :)

message 660: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (ashielizz) Hi. My name is Ashley and I live in Virginia. I'll be 24 next month and I just started going to school for medical claims and billing. My true passion is beauty so I hope to go back one day and get my cosmetology degree. I have a wonderful mother and a great boyfriend which I've been with 3 years this June. I have 3 dogs and 4 cats and I'm hoping to get a couple of horses this spring. I'm also an Avon rep but I've recently decided to take a break to focus more on my schoolwork. I hope to get back to it later in the year. I love to go fishing and swimming, flip flops, sunglasses and anything that has to do with summertime. My favorite genres are mysteries, chic lit, suspense, inspirational, self-help, western romances, vampire stories, etc.

message 661: by Katelyn (new)

Katelyn Broad (katelynb) Hi my name is Katie and I live in gorgeous Utah. I just turned 22 and I'm going to school for psychology. I have a few cats and a dog named Toby who loves to sit on whatever I'm reading. I love to read so much which is a problem because I'd rather read my books than my textbooks. I also love hiking, cooking, singing and dancing, plus I have a huge interest in health and fitness. I've always wanted to belong to some kind of book club so this is perfect for me.

message 663: by Allison (new)

Allison | 179 comments Hello, my name is Allison and I live in beautiful Northern California. I have been on goodreads for a long time, but I have never joined a group before. I stumbled on this group and I noticed that you have a reading challenge! I am pretty excited about this since I am a competitive person and love to read :) I am still trying to figure out how it all works and I'm not sure if I will participate in this one or wait until the fall... I guess we'll see how quickly I figure it all out!

message 664: by Ashley (last edited Apr 14, 2012 10:24AM) (new)

Ashley (amarie007) I'm Ashley, 23 years old (24 in a month), and living in Kansas. I'm graduating next month with a BA in Studio Art. My concentrations are Drawing and Painting. Looking forward to moving to Colorado in June! When I'm not reading or working on art, I like to play video and board games with my friends and boyfriend (who's a board game addict). My favorite types of books are memoirs, fantasy/scifi, and historical fiction.

message 665: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (roaming_librarian) Hello all!

I'm Sam. I have been lurking in the shadows for a few months now. Time and time again I kept meaning to jump in, but just never did. Now as the semester is winding down I have been doing some thinking and decided that I would really like to work on my writing outside of an academic setting. The best way for me to do this I thought would be to participate within the group as well as writing more through book reviews and attempting some creative writing exercises. After taking the polls it seems that I have quite a bit in common with the majority of members.

Currently I am a Junior at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey. it took many tries before I linked my love of books with the idea that I could work with them. I am a literature major that is minoring in both Spanish and sociology. My ultimate goal is to become a librarian, but I wouldn't snub a job working in a major publishing company either. I am employed with three companies while I attend school full time. My main job is as a concierge at an assisted living, but I also work seasonally at Barnes and Noble and am a per diem Certified Home Health Aide.

Even with all I do I still find time to read and can almost always be seen with a book. Right now I am reading a lot of teen fiction; they are quick easy reads that I can relate to even being a little older than some of the main characters. Two of my favorite series are Harry Potter and Hunger Games. Harry Potter is simply because I grew up with the books and fell in love with the characters. The Hunger Games is the only series that rivals Harry Potter for the number one spot. It was a lot more mature and it is also the book that brought me and my boyfriend together. Some people have a song they share, but we share the books. He is my Peeta and I am his Katniss. Cheesey, I know.

In my free time I enjoy just hanging out. Animal rights are very important to me and I just wish I could take every stray dog home with me. The world of Mixed Martial Arts fascinates me and I dabble in Muay Thai from time to time. Other than that I am just a normal college student (writing this instead of a creative writing assignment that is due Thursday haha). I look forward to hearing from everyone and getting to know you.

Sam

message 666: by Sheree Bonita (new)

Sheree Bonita (shereebonita) Hi All,
my name is Sheree. Currently I'm not reading any books because college has taken over my poor life and I must live vicariously through all of you! Don't let me down.

I'm on Twitter daily so if you have the urge to follow me you can and you should @ShereeBonita

I'd have to say my favorite Young Adult Novel is still The Adoration of Jenna Fox. Check it out.
Another one of my top books I've read in college is Disgrace

message 667: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey Hello I'm Lindsey,
I am fairly new to Goodreads and brand new to this group. Currently I am reading a plethora of Adult Fairy Tales (Such as Black Thorn White Rose) and a few other mystery and horror books on top of that. I generally enjoy adult fantasy books and horror/mystery/suspense. I love books that offer a psychological twist.

I am 19 years old and currently attending Undergraduate school with a Major in Horticulture. I enjoy playing and writing music for the harp which I have played for many years and gardening or working with plants.

My favorite book is (and has always been) Photographing Fairies

Brad (Brad4) | 2 comments Hello,

Im Brad, pretty new to being a member on Goodreads but ive used to for great book reviews before.

Im from the UK, don't hold that to much against me.

Im really into Dystopian Novels, which i know seem to be booming at the moment, but hopefully that just increases the chances of some real Gems turning up. I also like anything that can be related to Steampunk.

Hope all you guys are enjoying your weeks, just thought id drop in and say Hello.

Thanks,

Brad

Hope you enjoy the group!

message 678: by Sandra Dögg (new)

Sandra Dögg Hey my name is Sandra and I'm from Iceland. I started studying law last year but I soon found out that being a lawyer didn't suit me at all so I decided to change to pharmacology.
I love reading, which can be a bit of a pain since I forget to do other stuff, like study, and just loose myself in the fascinating world my books have to offer.
My other hobbies include traveling, being with my friends, working out (hiking, yoga, pole-fitness...)
I work part time with school and I live at home since I spend all my spare money on books, partying and on travelling.

Well thats all I can think of right now, looking forward to hear from you.

Sandra

message 679: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (ashielizz) Welcome Sandra! I like to do yoga too. I'm going to join a class next month. What exactly is pole-fitness?

message 680: by Sandra Dögg (new)

Sandra Dögg Well its basicly fitness excercises and such on a pole. Its starting to be very popular here. I love it! And yeah yoga is so nice, i usually like going in the morning befor school.

message 681: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (ashielizz) I thought as much but I wanted to make sure. I'd thought about doing something like that later on but I live in a small town and it's not offered anywhere close.

message 682: by Aryn (new)

Aryn (aryn007) Hello! My name is Aryn, I am 24, a graduate of ASU and currently an actor at the George Street Playhouse in NJ. Ummm, yup, I think that's it! I like to read and I like to talk, so this seemed like the place to be!

Hope everyone is having a lovely Sunday!

message 683: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (ashielizz) Welcome Aryn! What type of acting do you like to do?

message 684: by Aryn (new)

Aryn (aryn007) Hi there! I primarily consider myself a singer, but at the moment I am doing children's theatre with a touring company in NJ. We do three issue-oriented plays and a musical in rep. Basically, we put our show in a van, drive it to a school, put it on, and then do a little post play discussion with the students on either bullying, conflict/resolution, or health/wellness. :) It's a lot of work, but very rewarding!

message 685: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (ashielizz) Sounds like fun! Do you plan on pursuing singing?

message 686: by Aryn (new)

Aryn (aryn007) Well, yes, I am going to continue singing and acting as well. This is my day-job at the moment and soon as my contract is up, I will be auditioning for musicals again :)

message 687: by NeednKnow (new)

NeednKnow | 7 comments Hello, you can call me NnK... or Needie, because I am very needy.

I am a fourth-year majoring in landscape architecture, but it's a five-year program, so I won't graduate until May 2013... oh, I also need to do an internship before I can graduate, but I'm going to look for one next summer, so I won't get my diploma until August 2013. :D

I am an avid reader and have been lurking here.

Unlike Aryn, I don't do anything. I just sit and read and write. I am such a productive member of society... I am very sarcastic, by the way. ;)

message 688: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (ashielizz) Aryn wrote: "Well, yes, I am going to continue singing and acting as well. This is my day-job at the moment and soon as my contract is up, I will be auditioning for musicals again :)"

Cool! Good luck to you!

message 689: by Katie (new)

Katie | 4 comments Hey! My name is Katie, 19, and I just finished my freshman year of college (yay summer!). I am a chemistry major, so obviously I love science and math, but I still have a passion for reading! The plan right now is to go on to pharmacy school, but that seems to change every other week. I live in California but hopefully I will be transferring schools to the east coast in a year for a temporary change of pace.

I love to read, obviously, but sometimes I get so busy with school and whatnot so reading is put on the back-burner. I nanny, tutor, play the cello, and paint/draw. I have a dog (who is currently begging me for a walk) and a cat. And I have a tendency to talk a lot and ramble… I am looking forward to getting to know everyone on here!

message 690: by Vic (new)

Vic (akisei) | 2 comments Hi! Call me Vic, 17 years old and is an upcoming sophomore taking up B.S. Architecture. I love to draw, read, listen to music, and sometimes play some online games.

Hope to meet everyone here. :)

message 691: by Julia (new)

Julia Hi! I'm Julia, 21, and starting my final year in college in Los Angeles, working on a bachelors in Psychology and Liberal Studies (which is essentially elementary education). I'm also minoring in history.

I absolutely love to read, and it is one of the few things that keep me sane during the year when classes get busy. I plan on going on to get a PhD in developmental psychology after I graduate from college. But we will see, because I am supposed to be spending time working on applications, I've been reading instead (books are far too addicting!). I love animals (especially fluffy ones), chocolaty things, and just sitting outside people watching.

I'm really excited about this group because so few people I have met in college so far read! It makes me happy that this group exists :) I'm very excited to meet and get to know all of you!

message 692: by Kristine (new)

Kristine C Frost (kcstrife) Hey there everyone! I'm Kristine,16, upcoming first year College from Manila, taking up Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English. I love reading as majority of you guys out there. And I sometimes write stories too, I have a wattpad account where I post some of 'em. I love Animes and Mangas. I am very fond of International Studies and languages.

I would love to know people from this group who have common interests! :D

message 693: by Katerina (new)

Katerina (klymene) So.... Introductions, right?

My online alias is Klymene. Which, might I add, is so much cooler than my real name. Actually, that might be debatable. Anyways (I don't know if you've noticed already, but I have a talent for digressing. Love that word. Really. ANYWAYS), the name Klymene comes the Titan goddess of renown, fame and infamy. She's the Oceanid wife of Iapetus, and the mother of Atlas, Epimetheus, Prometheus, and Menoetius. I'm a greek mythology fan, and the fact that her name started with the same letter as my real one was a real plus. At the time, I had forgotten about Kana from Fruits Basket.

So. I guess that's long enough? Although I'm younger than your average college freshman, I am a college student. Technically. Where I live, there's this AMAZING opportunity where high school-ers can take college courses for free and still get credit. Legally, I'm enrolled in my high school as well as the local university.

And, might I add, I am currently searching for college advice. :D

So. I'm very happy to be here. I'm extremely sorry for my long winded introduction speech. And I can give summaries!

message 694: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 4 comments Hello everyone!

I'm Jess, 22, just graduated with a B.S. in Air Traffic Management. I'm currently looking into going to grad school, but not sure what I want to study, so I've been reading to avoid the decision making.

I love to read, scrapbook, kayak, snowboard, and spend time with my boyfriend, friends, and puppy.

message 695: by J.C. (last edited Jul 09, 2012 05:58AM) (new)

J.C. (jcjoranco) | 12 comments I am not particularly a new member, but I've been so busy over the past year that I really lost touch with all my goodreads groups, etc.

Anyway, I'm J.C. Henderson, I just graduated from community college and about to move on to a four year university searching for a BA in English.
I have published one novel, called Halfway To Nowhere. I plan on publishing more stuff in the future.

I love camping, actually, and taking very long walks. I like movies, especially good ones. I draw from time to time but mostly for amusement. I LOVE music, all kinds of music. I tend to constantly be listening to something. Though if I had to answer the deserted island question, my number one music/artist would be Bob Dylan. his music career could definitely keep me going till the end of my days.

I look forward to what this group can offer, and please, you're all totally welcome to add me as a friend!

message 696: by J.C. (new)

J.C. (jcjoranco) | 12 comments Oh that's cool. When I go hiking I don't do anything strenuous (i'm pretty out of shape), but I do enjoy a good walk in the mountains, and maybe some kayaking.

Yeah I saw it, three times. Which I don't think I've ever done before.

message 697: by Katerina (new)

Katerina (klymene) AHH! Avengers?! I need to watch that so bad. But I want to watch all the "prequels" first. I've watched Thor and Captain America. May I say, Sebastian Stan is fine? I'm currently on Iron Man 1/2 and after that, the Incredible Hulk. You won't believe how many remakes of Hulk there are. It's ridiculous.

message 698: by J.C. (new)

J.C. (jcjoranco) | 12 comments Thor and Capt America are the imperative "prequels" that you have to see, for sure.

Also, I'm totally excited about the new Spider Man movie, it looks like it can be great. I won't be surprised if he makes it into the next Avengers movie too.

message 699: by Katerina (new)

Katerina (klymene) Two Avenger movies? Isn't that a bit much? Or is the Avengers a comic series?

message 700: by J.C. (new)

J.C. (jcjoranco) | 12 comments Here's the wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Aven...

it is a series. Though I'm sure even if it weren't, Joss Whedon could pull off an effective sequel.
