message 604: by Alissa (new)

Alissa Hello, my name is Alissa and I am a junior in college. I don't have a major related to English or Writing, but I do love to read. I always have a hard time finding books that are aimed toward people that are out of high school. Hopefully this group will aid me in my search.

message 605: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello!! My name is Amy, and I go to school in Massachusetts. I am an elementary education major, with a minor in the fine and performing arts. I would love to be a very hands on teacher someday, and I hope I can really inspire my students to read, becuase I love reading.

I am excited to be taking Mystery Fiction Literature this semester at school, as it is a genre that I do not usually read, so I think it would be fun ti try something new. I hope I am not getting in over my head! lol

Julia (taspsandiego) | 16 comments I've been here for a while but I'm pretty sure I've never posted anything. Well, a time as good as any, I suppose.

I'm 19 and in my third year - out of five - of a Aerospace Engineering program in Brazil.

I love to read and I'm looking forward to the Fall/Winter Challenge - even though it is a Spring/Summer challenge from my point of view ^^

William Jorgensen (will_jorgensen) | 12 comments Hey all the new people.

Julia, Aerospace Eng? That is pretty cool.
I wish I had done Eng instead of what I ended up doing.
At least I would have some sort of direction.

Well just wanted to say welcome. Hope everyone is enjoying their current reads.

Will

message 612: by Laurens (new)

Laurens (thepathofeudaimonia) Hello everyone,

My name is Nick (Voloscire), 23 years of age, and I live in the region Rotterdam, the famous port in The Netherlands. Reading books is one of my great interests. A ambition even, to learn, to know the world and not least of all: To adore the world in all its facettes. I've studies biomedical sciences before and right now I'm in Medical School in The Netherlands, striving to become either a neurologist, internist or pediatrician. Because of my study, I have less and less time for other things like reading or just having a social life in any way. Finding that balance is quite hard most of the time, especially when both friends and books are equally important to you. I don't have a lot of friends who are into reading, so a combination is not possible. Most of them only have read some Dutch (childrens) books, Harry Potter or LOTR.
Other interests of mine are philosophy, sports (mostly running, fitness, handball and chess), science, medicine, politics, cinematography, my friends and love.
What I'm hoping to find here is some great "spirits alike" and people from all over the world. To see if there any great book-recommendations hidden here on this forum, or in the read-list or recommendation-list from some of you. I'm not really sure yet what other great conversations and discussions take place here, but I'm sure that there are.

Hoping to see you around :),

Nick

message 613: by Audrey (new)

Audrey (audreydear) Hey y'all! I'm Audrey, 21, "senior" sociology major at Texas A&M. I grew up in a small town right outside of Austin, I have a severe caffeine addiction, I'm really clumsy, I have an encyclopedic knowledge of pop culture, I'm super outgoing, and I love to bake. My parents got me a kindle for my birthday, which my mother referred to as "enabling an addict." I like all kinds of books, which means I'm reading 4 different kinds at a time. I'm excited to get to know everyone!

message 618: by Beth (new)

Beth Hello! I'm Beth, a senior in college in San Antonio, Texas. I graduate next spring with a degree in Statistics. I've always been a bookworm and a literature-minded person, so it's kind of weird that I took to math in college...but that's life. After college I plan on becoming a pilot. I love to fly airplanes, read books, buy books, paint, sing, ride horses, and write haiku. Currently I'm reading lots of text books(Ugh!!), and a really interesting book by Charles De Lint called "Moonheart".

Hope to hear from all of y'all soon!

message 619: by Christina (new)

Christina Jane | 1 comments Hi all, my name's Christy and I am 20 years old, 21 next month! I absolutely love to read and I am taking several creative writing classes in college. message 621: by Liz (last edited Oct 19, 2011 04:49PM) (new)

Liz Arcand (lizdalton) | 7 comments Hello! I am excited to find this group! I am a college graduate (who will be *hopefully* going to grad school in the fall of 2012 for library science and information studies)! As of now I am currently working as a retail associate and feeling bummed that college is over! I am 25 with degrees in both History and Psychology and the only thing great about being out of college is the fact that I have time for leisure reading! I am looking for friends with similar interests so feel free to find me on goodreads. I am also from St. Louis so if anyone hails from the Midwest, say hello!! I cannot wait to get to know you guys!

message 622: by Jessie Marie (last edited Oct 20, 2011 07:32AM) (new)

Jessie Marie (jessiemreads) Hey all. Taking a mini-work break to *finally* introduce myself. I've been a member for a couple days now, but other things have come up so I've been too busy to say hi... until now. :)

My name is Jessica, I currently reside in Virginia. I'm a college graduate from the amazing Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!). I got my B.S. in Biology in May of 2010 and I miss it so much. So much so that my boyfriend and I (also a VT Alum) are taking a one week vacation to Blacksburg in little over a week. I can hardly contain my excitement. :)

I've always been a bookworm and my life is incomplete when I don't have the time to read that I would like. Unfortunately, my current responsibilities (family, work, boyfriend, etc.) keep me from cozying up with a PSL (if you know what that is, we're best friends automatically) and a good book for hours on end. However, I'm learning to balance it all and will be found in my new chaise lounge (I have *always* wanted one, so excited) for quite some time.

My genre of choice these days is historical fiction. I'm a huge Diana Gabaldon, Michelle Moran and Colleen McCullough fan. If anybody has great recommendations for historical fiction set in Ancient Rome/Greece, hit me up. I'm always looking for more toga-inspired reading. :)

Other than reading I spend my time with my dog, Moose, my boyfriend, Danny, and watching football. I'm pretty chill and love talking/meeting new people. So good to be here, can't wait to get to know you all!

PS. Obviously, I am NO good at being short and concise. It's a curse/gift.

message 623: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle4p) Hey! I'm Michelle, 20 from Chicago, IL. I'm a Junior, double majoring in PR/Advertising and Political Science with a minor in Journalism or Marketing (haven't decided yet). I have always love reading! I enjoy writing too (I even have a blog!). I am a new member and can't believe I just discovered this site!

message 624: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey | 2 comments Hey! I'm a lot younger than most of you in this group, as I just started my first year at Smith College. I have always loved to read, but haven't loved how my academic pursuits keep me from having much time to do so. I'm hoping to graduate with a major in Comparative Literature and go on to study translation in grad school.
Other than books, I love chocolate, cats, movies (especially artsy ones), the beach and impressionism ( I'm a huge art appreciator but don't have a creative bone in my body!).

Can't wait to be [art of this group!

message 625: by Gaille (new)

Gaille (melliag) Hello everyone! My name is Gaille, i'm a sophomore Accounting student. I have recently taken up reading again after a long pause. My current obsession is historical fiction set during the French Revolution. I'm a major francophile, fan of Merlin and Downton Abbey, and love dark chocolate. Can't wait to discuss some of the books with all of you!

message 626: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (fallenmurphy) Hi everyone. I don't think I have introduce myself on here yet. My name is Kimberly I go to school at Arizona State University studying criminal justice and criminology. I was a history major for a while, but I lost interest. I still enjoy history books thought. I don't have one genre I love, but I read a wide variety of books. I just started a book blog to share my opinion on the books I've read.

Aneesa (aneesagillum) | 3 comments I don't think I ever introduced myself. I graduated with a BS in geology at Southern Illinois University this year. I moved to Idaho with my husband, so I'm going back to school to major in Dietetics at University of Idaho. Can't find a local job for my life since my husband is also a geologist. Besides reading, I like to rock hound and travel.

Looking forward to meeting you guys!

message 629: by Caleigh Rose (new)

Caleigh Rose (caleighrosebud) Hello everyone! I'm Caleigh. I'm eighteen and I'll be starting college in January, hopefully! I live in the South, in Georgia. It isn't the most exciting place to live, but it's home. My favorite books are Looking For Alaska by John Green and The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. I also really love Harry Potter. I love to read anything and everything and I'm very excited to be apart of this group!

message 632: by Kayla (new)

Kayla (krs209) | 8 comments Hello! My name is Kayla and I am 21 from Virginia. I graduate with a degree in Medical Coding and Billing in December. Not too much longer! I am a total bookworm, but it's hard to find time with school and work. I do not have a favorite genre in books, I can read almost anything.

Hope to hear from you all!!

message 633: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (petitenova) Hi, my name is Ashley. I live in Chicago. I'm a History major so the majority of the books that I have on my shelves are non-fiction tomes on the specific eras in American history or biographies on historical figures. Any fiction I own was during the happier time when I entertained majoring in English or Comparative Lit (Russian and French literature is my weakness). Otherwise I read a lot of philosophy for school.

message 634: by Lhunt212 (new)

Lhunt212 | 2 comments Hey everyone, My name is Lindsay and I am completely new to this group, and Goodreads. I am 24 and a Air Force wife who is stationed in Germany. I am originally from California and spent a few years stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi with the hubby. I recently graduated college with a Bachelors in English and plan to start a program in 2012 to get my teaching certification. Other than that I love to travel and am taking full advantage of the time we have overseas to see as many countries as possible.

message 635: by Zoe (new)

Zoe (Gomen) | 5 comments Hi, I'm Zoe, a sophomore from Western Pennsylvania and a book addict. I also sing, act, knit, and play a few instruments. I'm currently an English major (though my program is designed so that it's about 90% lit courses), so I do loads of reading for school in addition to my reading for personal enjoyment. I always love connecting with other bookworms. Thankfully, everyone in my family loves to read, so I have always had people to discuss books with, but seeing as none are really my age, it's quite nice to be able to connect with those in my general age group. I did belong to a book club a few months ago, but the group switched the meetings to Tuesday evenings, when I always have to work, so I had to leave, and I find that I have been missing it. Anyhow, I'm looking forward to jumping in on some conversations here. :)

Hi, Ashley! I'm glad to see that someone else has a weakness for French literature. None of my friends seem to understand that.

message 637: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra (alexandrah) Hi! I'm Alexandra, I graduated this past June from UCLA. I plan on going back to school at some point for Social Work. I love reading all types of books, from history to science fiction and everything in between! I look forward to joining the discussions in this group! I'm fairly new to this website, so I'm hoping to make new friends and find new books to read.

message 638: by Paul (new)

Paul | 18 comments Hello! 12/10/2011 was the day I graduated college. I am 23 years young and I am now lighting the kindle for my passion of books. I recently read a book by Patch Adams, Gesundheit!, which lead me to other books, which, in turn, lead me here. I ended 2011 by finishing Man of La Mancha, with four minutes to spare. I like to read for knowledge, not exactly entertainment, yet. Hope to hear about some great concepts.

message 640: by Bailey (new)

Bailey | 2 comments Well! An introduction thread. I can't believe it's taken me almost two months to find it, haha :) Anyway, my name is Bailey and I am currently working on a double major in English and secondary education at the University of South Alabama. I love both of my majors and I hope someday to instill the same love of reading that I have in my future students. I love to blog and you can find out more about me by going Over Yonder... I work two jobs on campus. One is as the Life Editor for the campus paper, The Vanguard, and the other is as a lab assistant in the educational technology learning lab at the education department. Both jobs keep me rather busy, but I love them all the same. Sometimes though, I feel like I'm also majoring in journalism. Haha!

Well, that's pretty much it. If y'all want to know more, all you have to do is ask!

Happy Reading!

French literature is where it is at. It might be better that you don't share that one passion with your friends, some lovers of French literature can be a little unbearable.
