How I proposed was a bit funny as well. I was down for New Year's (she was living and working in Victoria at the time) and I already knew whenever I popped the question the answer would be yes as we had discussed it the first night. We were shopping in downtown Victoria and had gone into the downtown Chapters (National bookstore chain). We happened to end up in front of the Bridal magazines which I noticed she was eyeing. I asked her if she wanted one. Her reply was 'Only if you're asking" to which I said "I guess I am asking then". She said yes, I bought the one she picked out and the rest, as they say, is history.
The current transfer window is closed. While Man United got rid of ten players they only brought in two new ones, neither of whom is a striker, which is what they really need. General feeling is that they should have been more active. Not sure if this is due to management or other factors.
Luis Rubiales is now before a court in Spain over his actions after the World Cup. Jenni Hemoso has testified already. If he takes the stand it is going to be interesting what Rubiales has to say for himself. What he did probably does fit into Spanish culture but that doesn't make it right.
The following is from today's BBC News Briefing newsletterA pub landlady scored a bit of an own goal after offering a free beer for every goal scored by Nottingham Forest in a recent football match. Beccy Webster, who runs the Gedling Inn in Nottinghamshire, England, said she may have lost as much as £1,500 ($1,820) thanks to Forest winning 7-0. But she said she didn't think about how much it was costing as "everyone was having such a good time".

Even though I don't follow British sports this sounds like it would be fun if made into a movie.
Well it seems I have managed to survive yet another birthday. Even the weather didn't dampen my spirits. We had a massive snowfall yesterday. Bad enough that the transit buses were getting cancelled and I have never known that to happen.
C. John wrote: "Well it seems I have managed to survive yet another birthday. Even the weather didn't dampen my spirits. We had a massive snowfall yesterday. Bad enough that the transit buses were getting cancelle..."Cheers! As The Beatles sang "You say it's your birthday! Happy Birthday to you!"

Well, this tarriff tiff has had an interesting effect. It has reignited the discussion of eliminating National anthems from things like regular hockey games and such. Apparently in Europan Football National Anthems are reserved for games that are actually between nations. Of course someone suggested we just put an instrumental verson of The Star Spangled Banner on and let the crowd do as they will.
Since it is getting close to Valentine's day here is a nice tender duet by Benny Hill (and I typed that with a straight face)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v15jY...
Apparently today was the 67th anniversary of the Munich Air Disaster. I daresay that they didn't forget that in Manchester.
Line-up for the Six Nations this weekend is as followsEngland vs. France
Italy vs. Wales
Scotland vs. Ireland
Trump has said that he does not intend to deport Prince Harry. He says the guy has enough problems with his wife.
From this morning's Morning Brew newsletter. Something on the lighter side of football. And a bad pun to boot at the end.Good morning. The Super Bowl is tomorrow, and the Chiefs aren’t the only ones going for a three-peat: So is the color purple. It could be the third year in a row that purple Gatorade is showered on the winning head coach as the game winds down.
No surprise, then, that purple is the slight betting favorite, followed by yellow/lime/green, orange, blue, red/pink, and clear/water. Orange you glad most of you live in a state that doesn’t let you bet on this?

And here is a blast from my past (way back to my childhood). Here we have a show I watched regularily, Fireball XL5. The music is actually a mix of the opening and the closing of the show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxec0...
I am going to think that the section when the closing is being sung by Col. Zodiak is from an episode, but I can't say which one. Been a long time since I have seen this series.
The Producers' Guild of America were tonight, which means my inbox has been getting a wee bit full. Ah well.
We had a bit of a stunner in Six Nations yesterday. France, who are co-favourites to win it, lost to England, who are not. This has upended things somewhat. As well Italy defeated Wales. Scotland and Ireland play today. I believe the next set of matches are a couple of weeks from now.
Oh, and for those who care about these things, the opening ceremony for the Invictus Games was yesterday. Both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were on hand. Afterwards they attended the NHL game between Vancouver and Toronto.
The conspiracy theorists are out in full force. Supposedly the NFL has rigged everything so that KC definitely wins. Personally I don't think the NFL is that smart and/or competent.

Unfortunately kooks have a wider range of platforms to spread misinformation & theories.
Carl Edwards, Ricky Rudd and Ralph Moody were inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame over the weekend.
In what is most assuredly an upset Liverpool were knocked out of the FA Cup by Plymouth Argyle, who play in the Chamionship. Looks like the best Liverpool can do this year is the triple.
I daresay if the females in the household were rooting for anyone it was KC. I would have like to have seen a three-peat but such was not to be.
Somehow in all the fuss about some football game I missed the news that Trump had abolished the penny. All I have to say about that is what took you so long. We got rid of that coin years ago. I believe Stephen Harper was prime minister at the time.
Here's a thought. Now that Breaking/Break Dancing is an Olympic sport how long before Dungeons & Dragons or Magic the Gathering end up there as well. Mind you they are bit more cerebral than the usual Olympic competition but who knows. Now that I think about it, when TSN first came into being one of the first things it covered was a World Chess Championship in, I think, Halifax. This was more than just the top two guys playing each other. There were quite a few things said I about that. I actually watched some of the proceedings. The Lightning Chess was quite interesting actually.
The nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for 2025 have been released. They are Bad Company, The Black Crowes, Mariah Carey, Phish, Outkast, Chubby Checker, Billy Idol, Joe Cocker, Cyndi Lauper, Joy Division/New Order, Mana (a Mexican group), Oasis, Soundgarden, and the White Stripes. We shall see who gets in later this year.
Interesting item from one of my political/news newsletters. It seems the current British government has announced it is going to be building at least a dozen new towns. God knows where they plan on putting them. The process of getting them approved should be fun to watch though.

I was very disappointed he was not inducted before his death.
Isn’t it always like that in all HoFs. A lot of derserving candidates this year and scary it includes many I’m familiar with. Kind of like 90s music being on “oldies” stations. No thank you.

Listening to the song "Goody, Goody". This version is a duet with Frankie Lymon and Barry Manilow. Amazing what you can accomplish in the arena of music these days. I recall when Natalie Cole released that single of her singing with her father.

Thanks, C.John. Love The Righteous Brothers.
Listening to a playlist I came up with a few years ago entitled "Soft? and Romantic". I led it off with "Dammit Janet" from The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Sorry for the politics but the following toughts on current events really need to be mentioned. Trump has accomplished a couple of things that most Canadians would have thought impossible. First he has caused the downward spirial of the Liberal Party to reverse itself. Secondly he has gotten Quebec and the rest of Canada to agree on something, and that doesn't necessarily happen frequently.
Looking at an email of suggestions that Pinterest sent me. One of the pins is the cover of the magazine Inside Wrestling for July 1975. One of the items on the cover is titled "Greg Valentine More Cruel Than Brother Johnny". Only catch is Johnny Valentine was not Greg's older brother. He in fact was his father.
