By the way, what is it with sex toys and the WNBA. And why would anyone bring one to a basketball game unless you intended to throw it on the court. Certainly can't use it during the game.

That boggles the mind. But then, it’s pretty disgusting to see some of the comments made about the players in my WNBA social media groups. Mostly good fans but the ones who aren’t…man are they nasty
Hubby is happy that NFL seaon is here. Raiders 1st pre-season game at Seattle. He's hoping Pete Carroll can turn this team into contenders. The merry go round of QB's goes on....this year it's Geno Smith. Minshew was a bust last year.

I have read the occasional article on the league, most involving Ms. Clark and it is interesting, and predictable, what some have to say about the league in general.
I have posted about Sheffield Wednesday's financial woes. Here is a bit from the Telegraph's Sports Briefing newsletter.Plus, the depths of Sheffield Wednesday’s plight hit home when it became apparent in pre-season that they could not even afford sock tape.
And don't ask. I have no idea what sock tape is. Al but two of the items in the newsletter's lead were Soccer-oriented and those two were both about Rugby
Another item about people throwing stuff on the court at WNBA games made me think. Where is it that people throw octopi on the rink at hockey games. I am thinking Boston but I am not sure about that. At least they don't throw them at the players.
Don’t forget hats at any rink when a player gets a hat trick. And when I attended a University of New Hampshire hockey game last year, I found out that it’s a “tradition” to throw out a fish when UNH scores their first goal.
Reason I was thinking Boston with the octopi was due to the fact there is, I believe, a major seafood market there. Of course I suppose with Boston you could make a case for throwing tea on the rink, as long as it is not hot,.
Probably some deep and dark secret nobody wants to talk about. That or someone tossed a rat once and it sort of caught on.
Listening to the playlist put together by Spotify's AI DJ, which is based on stuff I listen to. Just came is the song "Clear the Track Here Comes Shack" which is about Eddie Shack who played hockey for the Toronto Maple Leafs a long time ago.
Happy International Book Lovers Day. It is also Betty Boop's 95th birthday. She definitely doesn't look her age. Ms. Boop will enter the public domain next year I believe. Anyway a boop-oop-a-doop to one and all.
What can be more normal, at least in Canada, then Hockey and Tim Horton's. However there is a twist this time. It's not the NHL and Mattel is also involved.https://www.mississauga.com/news/barb...

My cat Bridgette certainly celebrated- by sleeping most of the day

International book day? That’s every day for me!

Well now we know the reason behind the throwing of green dildos onto WNBA courts. To quote Queen Victoria; "We are not amused". Maybe if the courts throw the book at someone this nonsense will stop.https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/...

Almost - Panthers forward Scott Melany killed a rat in the locker room before a game, then went out to score a hat trick. Goalie John Vanbiesbrouck called that a “rat trick” and from there the fans started throwing rats on the ice. It helped that the game propelled them on a hot streak where they reached the Stanley Cup Finals that year.

Another wrestling match from the 80's. This one took place in 1982. It is interesting to see as Wahoo McDaniel is a heel at this time while Ric Flair is the face. The young lady assisting the heels was known as Baby Doll and was Tully Blanchard's manager at this time. She would later become his valet when J, J. Dillon entered the picture.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEoHd...
London will be having Samuel Pepys day on September 5th so you can mark that in your diary. The City of London Guides will be hosting four different walking tours.https://londonist.com/london/things-t...
Listening to a playlist that Spotify creates by taking songs I listen to and songs Christine listens to. Usually the songs alternate but not always. Near the end of the list it grouped four songs from my playlists together. The artists were Salt 'n' Pepa, Focus, Tennessee Ernie Ford and Annette Funicello.
Bobby Whitlock, who founded Derek and the Dominos has passed away. Here are a couple of videos of the group's greatest hit, Layla. The first is a video from 1972, and it looks like that is the year it was made. The second is a live performance from 1984. Enjoy.

Sad. Just a few days ago we were listening to our CD of Derek and the Dominos Live at the Fillmore East which was recorded in 1970 and released in 1973. Yes I think that first link is to that performance. Whitlock isn't well known but I always loved the energy and enthusiasm he brought to his performances.
Hubby saw Clapton in the 70's before we met
and he's not sure but he thinks Whitlock was playing keyboards on that tour.
Leroy Carter was informed that he had been chosen to be on the All-Blacks team heading to Argentina. For those not in the know the All-Blacks are new Zealand's national Rugby team and are called that due to their uniform being entirely black. Anyway after getting off the phone and rushing to get stuff together he discovered that his dog had eaten his passport, or at least chewed it to bits. He has been able to get an emergency one.
An interesting item on a somewhat different culture war. It is from the BBC's Classical Music magazine. https://www.classical-music.com/featu...
Happy International Left Handers Day to one and all. I am sort of left-handed myself. I don't know if it still exists or not but in Toronto there was a store called Shoppe Sinister. It dealt with products for left-handed people.
My youngest son is up and watching television, though you wouldn't know it from the volume level. When my oldest daughter watches it you know what she is watching, for the most part.
Apparently it was on this date in 1961 that construction of the Berlin Wall was started. I recall reading a book in school about a boy who was trapped on the wrong side of the wall and his efforts to get to the other side and be reunited with his family, The book couldn't have been that old when I read it as I started school (grade 1) in 1961.
The Mirror (UK paper ran an online poll asking if Prince Andrew should be allowed to return to Royal duties. I checked the results and 11% said yes and 88% said no. The other 1% didn't know.. For the record I said no.And in the latest on the Prince he was heard to have a foul-mouthed rant at a workman on the road near where he is living. Apparently he likes to drive out of his domicile real fast and the worker was installing a speed bump near the gate. Means the Prince will have to drive slowly in the future.
Tom Dundon, who owns the Carolina Hurricanes has reached a tentative deal to purchase the Portland Trailblazers. He plans on keeping the team in Portland.
Barcelona has four or five new players which is currently unable to register due to financial issues. This is a yearly occurrence it seems.
Apparently two of the aspiring candidates for the upcoming Presidential election in the Republic of Ireland are Michael Flatley and Conor McGregor. I say aspiring as they have yet to qualify for the ballot.
Well I have now had a mystery cleared up. I kept reading stuff referring to today as V-J Day but none of my calendars noted that. Turns out today is V-J Day in the UK while in the US it is September 2nd. The first date was when Japan announced it was surrendering while the second is when the actual documents were signed. As a proud Canadian I shall honour today as V-J Day, like the Brits.
Louis Rees-Zammit has signed with the Bristol Bears. This ends his attempt to play American football and his return to Rugby,
Great headline in the Mirror this morning. "Leaving Trump alone with Putin is like sending a pinata to a baseball bat convention". That picture of a pinata at a baseball bat convention is going to stick with me for awhile. It reminds me of a commercial from a few years ago where Jose Batista is given a present which turns out to be a baseball. He turns red and is trying to find a bat to use on it while everyone else is trying to hold him back. The poor baseball is seen cowering in the box.
I daresay this was bound to happen at some point of time.https://larrybrownsports.com/football...
I recall the game manufacturer Avalon Hill decided not to call their racing game Grand Prix. They were afraid of some little old lady mispronouncing the word Prix. They called it Le Mans instead.
Question. I am reading an article on Jack-in-the-Box's return to Chicago. It mentions that the new locations won't include the chain's clown mascot. It also mentions somebody else's mascot Burger Chef. Who was Burger Chef the mascot for, as I have never heard of that one. Obviously it must be a chain that never penetrated the Canadian market.
Well Air Canada has managed to make the news pages (?) of the Mirror over in the UK. Unfortunately for the wrong reason. Guess that is what happens when your flight attendants go on strike
Hubby is listening to Raider pre season game on radio. I'll be listening to Padres at Dodgers on radio tonight. Inspired me to look up on YouTube the late George Carlin's classic comedy routine explaing the differences between football and baseball. Hilarious! Unfortunately not having any luck posting the link.
I would give it a shot but my computer is being cantankerous right now. Reading my mail on my phone.
