Didn't Elway end up with a minor league team for a bit until his situation got sorted out.
Apparently half of the Scottish Premier League is now owned by Americans. What is it that makes Football such an attraction to US interests (and Canadians).

Yes - 42 games for the Oneonta Yankees (class A NY-Penn League) in 1982. Part of his holdout - if the Colts didn't trade his rights, he'd try his hand at a baseball career.

Posting this here as it has nothing to do with baseball. Since Brina is a teacher I'm always googling my spelling! Mom wasn't a teacher but she was a stickler about spelling, punctuation and grammer :)
Britain is lowering the voting age so that 16 and 17 year olds will be able to vote in elections over the whole country. This is the first time since about 1969 that the voting age has been changed. The Labour government is also making some other changes. Be interesting to see if other jurisdictions (i.e. Canada) move in the same direction. I will also be interested to see what the Conservatives and Reform parties in the UK have to say about this. The Lib-Dems have already come out in support I believe and the Greens are likly to.
Singer Connie Francis has passed away at age 87. Some may recall her hits "Pretty Little Baby" and "Stupid Cupid".

Well it's Tour de France for the rest of the month. Mike watches the recap in the afternoon. I glance up occasionally tò enjoy the beautiful scenery :)

Bryan Braman who was a linebacker for the Houston Texans at one time has passed away from cancer at age 38.

This is from today's Football Daily newsletter, courtesy of The Guardian.Manchester United had the highest number of fans arrested of all clubs in England and Wales last season, according to Home Office data. There were 121 arrests of United supporters, putting them ahead of Manchester City (94) and West Ham (77), with the Hammers also having the most fans with a banning order in force at the end of last season, up from 93 to 112.

Apparently there will be no NASCAR street race in Chicago in 2026. However officials are hopeful it will return in 2027. There will be a street race in 2026, but it will be in San Diego.
Germany defeated France on penalties at the 2025 EUROs in the quarterfinals. This despite the fact Germant was reduced to 10 players due to a red card. However it should be noted that often a team in this position goes on to win a match.
Okay, I have been reading about Trump's comments on the NFL draft and Shadeur Sanders. I thought Mr. Sanders had already been through a draft. Am I wrong or was this the second time? Also, I am not sure that I would take advice from anyone who managed to tank an entire league, no matter who you are, what position you are in or what political party you support.

On my own for most of the day. Everyone else has gone down to Victoria. This is our annual trip down so that Christine can get our Christmas decorations. She is also picking up her mom's. I would be going but the vehicle only seets five and there are six of us. It has been said that we will make a second trip down and someone else can stay home, likely one of the boys. We shall see.

I was beginning to think that, like some governments, we had gone on summer recess as it has been so quiet around here lately. Hope everyone has a good rest of the summer.
Apparently Sarina Wiegman, the coach of the Women's National team in Football, is considered to be in line for an honorary damehood. It would have to be honorary as she is Dutch.
Great picture in one of my British newsletters this morning. It shows the Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer hauling a rubbish bin, probably to the roadside for pickup. I notice they must use a colour-coded system over there as we do here, but with different colours. Mr. Starmer is hauling an orange coloured bin, which is a colour we don't use. I see lots of black ones, which is a colour we do use, and possibly a yellow one, which we also don't use. Interesting photo though.
Found out the reason for the picture and it is actually quite funny, It is the last day of the parliamentary session and so the government will release a huge amount of studies and other documents today. This has gotten to be so prevelant, and the amount of material so large that it has become known as "take out the trash day". Hence the picture.
Apparently judgements in the trial of the five junior hockey players accused of sexual assault (well they were juniors when the events happened) will be delivered on Thurdsay. Be interesting to see what they are. Of course they will likely be appealed immediately.
Just thinking. The NASCAR road race next year will be held at the Coronado Naval Base in San Diego. Just wondering what will happen in the planes located there (F-18's I think) have to be scrambled while the race is in progress.
Coronado is South of San Diego City. Read in the news that the NASCAR race next June is also during the Navy's 250th anniversary. From 1968 to 1977 I worked at the Navy Exchange at North Island. Loved that job. Long story but wish I had stayed. Military folks are so polite both to work with and wait on. After that I worked different civilian retail jobs. Was a shock to me how rude some civilian customers could be. Although the majority were nice. I always preferred retail to office work as I disliked sitting at a desk all day!

Terry Bollea, better known by his ring name Hulk Hogan, has passed away at age 71. Cause of death is cardiac arrest. I am wondering if this has any connection to the steroids he used at one time.
Got a bit of music for you now. First up is the theme from a British television series I used to watch regularily. It is a mystery series set in Amsterdam, though the cast were all British actors. The five hockey players who were up on sexual assault charges stemming from an incident when they were juniors have been found not guilty. The judge apparently found the testimony of the claimant to be unreliable. It seems her testimony at this trial at times contradicted her testimony from a civil trial. Thus the judge felt she could not find the lads guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, which means she had to aquict them. The NHL still has them under suspension while it investigates the whole matter independently.
Chuck Mangione has passed away at age 84, Some of you may recall from comments I have made that he is one ofmy favourite jazz musicians. He was known for playing the flugelhorn. I recall he appeared on one of those Americana Bandstand Anniversary specials. He was appearing on the final performance where a group of musicians would play along with a video performance by a deceased performer. Dick Clark would introduce the musicians as being part of some section of the band, the guitar section and so for. He introduced Mangione as being part of the flugelhorn section. Of course he was the only one playing that instrument.
Still with Mr. Mangione he had a hit with a song entitled "Feels So Good' which made it onto the Billboard charts. Mangione figured that the songs popularity was due to counter-programming on radio. The Bee Gees songs from Saturday Night Live were saturating the airwaves and the programmers need something different to put on. A shortened version of this song was released and voila. Usually won’t happen. The team who can’t sign the draft pick will usually trade it for future picks or swap players. John Elway and Eli Manning are two famous examples of players who would not sign with the teams that drafted them but were traded elsewhere.
