C. John Kerry (cjkerry) | 12639 comments The following is from today's Football Daily from The Guardian. The writer is a chap name Barry Glendinning..

BRING IT ON
With the Lions Tour, Wimbledon, the second cricket Test between England and India and Copa Gianni all in full swing, the last thing all us sports fans who are so spoiled for summer choice need is keyboard warriors on social media abominations complaining about women’s football being “forced down our throats”. Especially given that, like each of the other sporting events listed above, watching Euro 2025 is still not compulsory.

C. John Kerry (cjkerry) | 12639 comments Interesting item on Caitlin Clark and the WNBA All-Star Voting. She is leading in the fan voting and doing well in the media voting at her position (guard). However she is doing badly in the balloting among the players. According to the article the only reason would appear to be that the other players don't like her (in fact hate was the word used). Some of those making comments on the article suggested it is because she is straight and white. One person actually referred to the WNBA as being the Lesbo League.

It’s many women’s sports and a widespread problem. I know some women’s soccer higher ups are frustrated with Mallory Swanson for getting pregnant the year before the World Cup qualifying. Basketball is the worst but soccer isn’t too far behind. Not sure about other sports.

I recall when a femaile wrestler got pregnant before a major event and had to take time off (for obvious reasons). A lot of people were annoyed at her. However one person wrote don't blame her, blame her boyfriend.

I wish I remember where I read it, but I saw somewhere that the WNBA was something like 35% lesbian. I think that seems fair - it just seems much larger because the media plays up those couples so much. Take my Lynx - always reminded coach Cheryl Reeve has a wife (in the Lynx FO), but never hear about Napheesa Collier’s husband - they make a damn fine looking couple

There was an article recently that Clark and Tyrese Haliburton double date and talk shop. Both hetero what a novel idea. I’m wondering what the percentage of lesbo is in the NWSL and WPHL and both probably are less than what the media says. And I only know about Swanson because her husband is the Cubs shortstop. She claimed to have taken the first half of the season off for mental health but it was morning sickness, which we found out after the fact.

C. John Kerry (cjkerry) | 12639 comments Just thinking, I remember when I was at McGill someone once said all or almost all the members of the ladies rugby team were lesbian. I think that was probably a stretch but it could have been close to the truth.

C. John Kerry (cjkerry) | 12639 comments At the Euros 2025 Norway defeated Switzerland (who are hosting the tournament) by a score of 2-1, with Norways' second goal being in fact an own-goal by the Swiss. Ooops.

When Candice Wiggins was a active WNBA player with the Lynx (note: she’s the daughter of former MLB player Alan Wiggins), she claimed the league was “95%” lesbian and she was getting bullied on and off the court for being hetero. Like with John’s story at McGil, I thought that was a stretch but had some truth about the bullying.

C. John Kerry (cjkerry) | 12639 comments Hare are the quarterfinal matchups for the Coppa Infantino.
Al-Hilal vs. Fluminense
Chelsea vs. Palmeiras
Dortmund vs. Real Madrid
Paris Saint-Germain vs. Bayern Munich.
I believe the games are this weekend.

C. John Kerry (cjkerry) | 12639 comments Looking up something on Goodreads and came across a book supposedly written by one Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward. The only catch is the person doesn't exist. Lady Penelope was a fictional character best know for being International Rescue's London agent. She also appeared in the British Comic TV Century 21. Of course me being me I find this whole affair quite amusing.
Just remembered, the publisher of the comic also pulbished a Lady Penelope comic as well.

C. John Kerry (cjkerry) | 12639 comments The first two quarter finals for the Coppa Gianvonni have been played and the winners were Chelsea and Fluminese. They will meet in one of the two semi-finals. One interesting item from the game. One of the Palmeiras players (the team Chelsea defeated) will be joining Chelsea after the tournament has ended.

C. John Kerry (cjkerry) | 12639 comments Read an article on Joey Chestnut's win at the Hot Dog Eating contest yesterday. Found a couple of the comments after the aricle interesting. One writer said that hot dog eating is not a sport, The second person described Mr. Chestnut as one of the best pure athlete of our time.

C. John Kerry (cjkerry) | 12639 comments They are using an automated system to call whether a ball is in or out on the lines, rather than having a human line judge. Somehow it got turned off during a match yesterday, but the umpire didn't know it. Problem was also one of the contestants was British so there were charges of home team bias. Oh well.

C. John Kerry (cjkerry) | 12639 comments According to my colouring app July 6th is kissing day. I can think of a couple of good stories involving kissing but I am not sure I should mention them. Both took place while I was living back east but they each involved different young ladies.

C. John Kerry (cjkerry) | 12639 comments James Gunn got himself into a wee bit of trouble when he was talking about the new Superman movie. He referred to Superman as being an immigrant. Some people are not happy with that. Come on what else could he be. He not only wasn't born in the US he wasn't even born on Earth. For the record, the artist who co-created him, Joe Schuster, was actually born in Canada.

C. John Kerry (cjkerry) | 12639 comments Had my regular appointment with a Public Health nurse this morning. Made them happy. They asked how it was going with the boot/rebounder I have to wear right now. I told them it goes on in the morning and comes off when I go to bed. They liked that answer. Admittedly when I dont have to wear it at all I will be quite happy, Here's hoping for a really mild winter.

There is also a bill to do with rare cancers

C. John Kerry (cjkerry) | 12639 comments Big day for Rugby Union fans. Scotland has already played Fiji. Later today Wales takes on Japan, New Zealand plays France and England is up against Argentina. To cap it all off the British and Irish Lions will challenge an AUNZ Invitational XV. I daresay there may be some annoyed ladies out there today.

C. John Kerry (cjkerry) | 12639 comments Crystal Palace have been bounced from next seasons Europa League and will instead play in the Conference League. This is because they have been found to be in breach of multi-club ownership rules. This is bad news for Palace as the Europa League is more lucrative. Their place in it will be taken by Nottingham Forest. Cue the Robin Hood jokes.

It should be noted that the word soccer is derived from the full name of the sport which is 'Association Football', as opposed to Rugby Football, Gaelic Football and Australian Rules Football, among other footballs.

C. John Kerry (cjkerry) | 12639 comments Reading an article on why virtually every 2nd round choice from the last NFL draft is unsigned. Apparently it is because the Texans gave their 2nd round pick a guaranteed contract and now all the others want one. I am wondering though what happens if no one is offered one. If they remain unsigned when the season starts what happens?

They are still bound to negotiate with their team unless the rights are traded. They remain bound to the team that drafted them until the next draft where they can re-enter it and hope they are picked by another team. It very rarely happens

Of course as there are three host nations Infantion would be in his rights to have all three leaders present for the presentation. Not sure that would make one person happy though.
