Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 1522 comments I'll be starting tomorrow! :)

Kirsten | 1287 comments Me too, probably maybe--I am finishing some work and The Backup Plan. If not tomorrow, then Saturday. I am looking forward to this reread.

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 1522 comments Oh god Luke is so awkward at first. I’m having secondhand embarrassment. Although it is interesting how they each see these initial conversations so differently

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 1522 comments Woah I thought this was another shitty ex setup but maybe Henry wasn’t terrible? It looks like Ryan wasn’t great it the relationship (but also they were probably incompatible with the open relationship).

Kirsten | 1287 comments I forgot how terribly awkward Luke was at the beginning of this, and the depths of Ryan's misery (I'm about 20% in).

I love the family connections in this--if I weren't Alice Hoffman with Jackie, it would have definitely worked with the family tag.

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 1522 comments I’m 30% in and he’s still so awkward (I love it though). And yes so much family!

Kirsten | 1287 comments I should say that you don't need to worry about spoilers with me. I probably won't be back until tomorrow because work.

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 1522 comments I like when you can tell when Ryan really actually stops being Joey. Like even how he talks about Luke’s looks is totally different once he sheds that

Kirsten | 1287 comments Oh, wow. (view spoiler)

Kirsten | 1287 comments But the (view spoiler)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 1522 comments YES. I feel like while Ryan does eventually have a reckoning about Henry (I was wrong he also does suck even if Joey sucked too), he never does with Chelsea and still sees her as having his best interest at heart all the way through (assuming something doesn't change in the epilogue I saved for tomorrow). She was absolutely manipulative and terrible for him--when she just deleted the tweets of him calling out The Wall for assaulting him and changed his password, telling him to take time off rather than getting help. She's horrendous and I do think more should've been done to call that out.

Kirsten | 1287 comments But of course the family also gets in the way… hot first time, but his whole family was right there!

The Henry scene was satisfying, but even better was when we heard all the terrible things he did and why (and how no one helped him! Not Henry, not Chelsea). He really messed up. Like, he was awful. And the lawsuits. Oy.

I’m at 65% and really wish he’d get rid of the Joey phone.

Kirsten | 1287 comments Okay, just finished and off to read Exhale because I want to remember how James ends up.

In the first epilogue, when Ryan wants closure and he’s talking to Chelsea about options… it’s her fault he didn’t do anything about the assault when it happened. He needs closure from her.

And Luke will always have shitty, selfish parents.

Hilarious bottoming scene and callback in the courtroom, but also weirdly sweet and sexy. This is a really solid book about sex work.

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 1522 comments I also picked up Exhale immediately because I'm SO confused about how Jamie ends up single! I knew Exhale was next so kept waiting for a break up that never came and then his GF is pregnant in the second epilogue.

I just think Soames is a really solid writer. Very character driven and I love all the characters

Kirsten | 1287 comments Have you read her other work? I loved the first 3 of this series, and then the rest didn't come out for awhile and I tried some others that just weren't as good imo. I have the most recent ones on my tbr, but I haven't read them. I am definitely want to go back and reread Taste and read the rest of London Love at some point now.

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 1522 comments It’s funny because while reading Breathe I kept thinking it was a better version of a similar family dynamic I’ve read and I’m now realizing it was Little Harbour—which is definitely my least favorite Soames book, but I think it was her debut.

I really enjoyed both White Noise and This Thing With Charlie but my favorite is In This Bed of Snowflakes We Lie. I read it like once a year for a really good quick I book for uno/spell

Kirsten | 1287 comments I haven't read Snowflakes--that's the one I keep thinking I should read.

The Rourke Stories just did not work for me. I'm not at all sure why, but I found them really false and unbelievable. I was super disappointed. Breathe and Taste were both 4 stars for me, but the other things I tried didn't work. I should finish out London Love.

Do you want to start By the Book this week? I'm kind of loose ends right now. The Quill friend week has me all kerfluffled.

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 1522 comments I was going to start BTB tonight/tomorrow, I put it in this weeks spell since I need to get it done anyway!

Kirsten | 1287 comments I think I didn't get this comment, or I missed it. Sorry!

Kirsten | 1287 comments I posted in our buddy read thread, btw.
