Sandra (sanlema) | 11334 comments I finished Where the Red Fern Grows I gave it 2 stars. I did not enjoy it much.

I started A Room with a View, which I am already loving.

I'm giving a second try to The Three-Body Problem. I read a couple of chapters a couple of years ago, and decided it wasn't working for me. Since then one of my sons have read and love the trilogy. He wants me to try again because he wants to discuss it with me. So I'm trying. This time I'm reading his English edition. Hopefully the translation is better than the Spanish one I tried before. I'm not sure the translation was the issue, but we'll see.

Janice (jamasc) | 60177 comments I started a new audiobook this afternoon - Dog on It. This is a reread. I was going to buy book 2 in the series, but I've spent enough today on audibooks. I read Dog on It 10 years ago and have no memory of it. Bonus is I already have the audiobook.

Tonight I will start Morrigan's Cross which I've had forever.

Kristie | 19371 comments I just realized that I haven't updated here in a while. My last update was that I was reading How to Age Disgracefully for the group read earlier in the month. I finished that and loved it. It was just what I needed.

Next I read The Stolen Life of Colette Marceau, which was another great read. I followed that with The Life Impossible, which I didn't really care for. Fortunately, I only had that one dud. My next three reads were What Happened to the McCrays?, A Witch's Guide to Magical Innkeeping, and Bookshops & Bonedust. I enjoyed all three of them.

Now I am listening to Never Flinch, which is really good. It's the latest in the Holly Gibney series by Stephen King. My husband and I listened to it while driving and we are at 81%. We will finish it over the next few days because we have a different book to read on the way home.

I am also about to start a physical copy of Iona Iverson's Rules for Commuting and an audio of My Sister's Grave for the group read. I have no idea how much I will get to of either book over the next week. We are on vacation, so it could be a lot or none.

Saar The Book owl | 2666 comments I've finished Carl's Doomsday Scenario, the second book in the series and I really enjoyed it. On to the 3rd one.

Christine Hatfield | 987 comments I’m reading a book called Summit Lake by Charlie Donlea

Janice (jamasc) | 60177 comments I started Morrigan's Cross a few days back. I'm not even at 50%. Close, but not there yet. This tale of building a team and army to engage and defeat vampyre Queen Lilith just isn't working for me. It's a mish mash. I could persevere, but I don't want to.

I think I'm going to close the iBooks app on it, and start The Black Cat Murders

I gave this one 5⭐. Hope you enjoy it.

message 265: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19371 comments Thanks, Roz. I've only read one book by this author before and I gave it five stars too, so I have high hopes for this one.

message 266: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11334 comments A bad cold knocked me down this week, so no much advance on A Room with a View and The Three-Body Problem BUT I did finish listening to The Wide World a few day ago and think it is a 5 stars historical fiction and family saga.

I should start My Friends as soon as possible, since it is the pick for my book club and the meeting is coming.

My experience too. Why do we keep buying books when we could save money and keep rereading the books we've forgotten?

message 273: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19371 comments I just finished My Sister's Grave for the group read. I thought it was a really great start to a series.

I am now starting Chomp for the monthly challenge.

message 274: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60177 comments I should finish The Black Cat Murders tonight. I'm at 96%. If I do, I'll move on to Badlands right away.

message 276: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19371 comments I finished Chomp for the monthly challenge. It was much more serious than I expected it to be. There was some intended humor, but it was childish and there were also some heavy topics including child abuse, running away from home, assault with a gun, alcohol abuse, etc. I feel like if you’re ready for those heavy topics you probably won’t find the humor included very funny.

I'm now starting A Captain's Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALS, and Dangerous Days at Sea for the yearly challenge.

I'll start Dark Water later today.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11334 comments This semester I'm taking the most difficult course in the Comparative Literature major, the seminar on Theory and Criticism, so my reading has been severely impacted. I wake up reading The Norton Anthology of Theory and Criticism and go to bed reading it. I am even dreaming with those 2700 pages...

Other than that, still trying to advance with The Three-Body Problem and A Room with a View, a few pages every weekend.

message 289: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19371 comments I'm reading I Found You and Iona Iverson's Rules for Commuting. I'm enjoying both of them, but haven't made much reading time for myself lately.

Tonight I'll be starting Imposter Syndrome. I've been putting it off until I finish I Found You so I don't confuse the two.

Jan Clark | 1 comments If you’re in the mood for a quick read, I recently finished a short story collection called She’s Fine by Jessica C. Wheeler, and I highly recommend it. Super funny and painfully relatable. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

message 298: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19371 comments I finished Too Old for This and read What Have You Done?. I am picking up Brigands & Breadknives today for the toppler.

I had to put aside The Women on Platform Two for the toppler, but I only have an hour left and I don't want to wait to finish it. I'm ahead of where I expected to be with my audios, so I may pick it up later today if I can fit it in.

I'm also still reading Imposter Syndrome, but have had very little Kindle time this week so I'm not making much progress.

Kristie | 19371 comments I finished Brigands & Breadknives. I thought it was good, but I didn't love it. I may be in the minority on this one. 3★
