Oh geez. Sorry - I should have noticed that. Thanks again!

Quest #1

A prized 'sack of flour' has been stolen from you, but you've tracked it down to a highly secure bank. The bank will not give it back to you. Do you give up, or plan a heist?

If you give up: spell out CONCEDE
C
O
N
C
E
D
E

If you plan a heist.
Step 1: Gather your heist materials
Minimum 4 books - items should be on covers or in the title

Step 2: Security - security guards & alarms
Read a book with a security guard character (to distract him)
Read a book with the word alarm in the text (to disable it)
{Create your own additional tasks as needed to fit your plan}

Step 3: Execute your plan - tell me your plan
Use book titles BUT please use filler words as needed to tell me your plan. Minimum of 4 books.

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 980 comments If we go with heist, I can do Read a book with the word alarm in the text (to disable it). I will be reading it today. I'd read Rental House by Weike Wang

If we go with the spell out, I can do D and read Dead Money by Jakob Kerr

And, assuming we can use author's names, I could do letter C and read Good Dirt by Charmaine Wilkerson

message 55: by Richard (new)

Richard (richoman25) | 2829 comments If a lot of books are required, I can do many of them, given how many books I go through every day.

message 56: by Erica (new)

Erica | 570 comments I'm reading The Women by Kristin Hannah right now, which has a helicopter on the cover. How about we fly in that and land on the roof of the bank to break in? We could probably remove an HVAC unit and sneak in through the building's heating/AC ducts?

message 57: by Erica (new)

Erica | 570 comments And how about rope to tie up the security guard and a drill or something to smash our way into whatever the sack of flour is in?

message 58: by Richard (new)

Richard (richoman25) | 2829 comments We're also able to use any powers that our characters have

message 59: by Erica (new)

Erica | 570 comments Excellent point! I wasn't thinking that.

message 60: by Erica (last edited Jan 28, 2025 01:10PM) (new)

Erica | 570 comments Okay, I was going to make a list of our characters and their powers but it appears more complex than I realized. We all start at a class level 3 and then from there we have choices to make for our characters.
I'm going to look at mine and see what I can figure out.

message 61: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 980 comments I'm unsure what we're doing. Are we doing the heist? If so, I'm doing "alarm" in text. Would I then also need something on the cover of my book that would fit? Since we can use title, HOUSE would work. But if you guys don't think that's going to work well, I can also read AMBUSH and that word would work for ambushing the guard. It also has the word "alarm" in the text.

The SS has the spell out AND the materials and the security. Can we finalize what we're going to do? I'm still confused but need to plan my book(s).

message 62: by Erica (new)

Erica | 570 comments I think we should do the heist but we need to plan it. I was offering a helicopter to get there. We definitely need your alarm book.

message 63: by Darkness (new)

Darkness (darknessofheart) | 29 comments I am little bit confused but coud be because I am tired and migrane does not help.

message 64: by Erica (last edited Jan 28, 2025 02:35PM) (new)

Erica | 570 comments Look at my message 56. That would be one way to do the heist. We would each need a book with something on the cover or in the title that would contribute to the operation. I believe we can use the same books for the second part (where we need "alarm" and a security guard and whatever else is in our plan). D & D is a game where we are given some direction like basic characters and setting/task, but from there we can create our own world. My suggested plan did not incorporate any of our characters' magical powers as Richard points out. So we could embellish what I came up with.
I'm offering a helicopter to get us there and safely away. Now we need to break in to the building, disable the alarm, tie up or otherwise incapacitate the security guard and find and get the sack of flour. Four players = four books. Book covers have to have images/titles that help our plan - rope? Other?
My book probably has a security guard too, as it's a Viet Nam war hospital setting.

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 980 comments Erica wrote: "I think we should do the heist but we need to plan it. I was offering a helicopter to get there. We definitely need your alarm book."

Perfect because I am almost done with it...probably 30 minutes.

My alarm book only has a chair, pillow and fire on it. So if any of those work then great. Otherwise I will have to find another book with something on the cover. The building we break into could be a HOUSE and that's in the title.

message 66: by Erica (new)

Erica | 570 comments The building is a highly secure bank, from Donna's scenario. Perhaps a chair or fire could be helpful. What special powers do you elves have? Or, can our wizard use the fire to cast a spell that would get us into the bank?

message 67: by Richard (new)

Richard (richoman25) | 2829 comments I can cast any spells.

In real life, I'm currently in autistic burnout, so thinking about logistics for games hurts my brain. I'm fine with reading as many books as needed for the team.

So if it's okay, can tasks/prompts be given to me to read for? I just can't be creative in thinking about things at the moment.

Sorry about this.

message 68: by Erica (new)

Erica | 570 comments I hear you on burnout Richard. No worries - we'll figure it out! Hope you can find some calm and quiet.

message 69: by Erica (last edited Jan 29, 2025 04:19PM) (new)

Erica | 570 comments Okay Vicki and Darkness, let's plan this heist. Richard reads VERY fast but is not in a planning mode at the moment.

Here's what we have (copying from Donna's scenario and filling in a few bits):

If you plan a heist.
Step 1: Gather your heist materials
Minimum 4 books - items should be on covers or in the title

Erica - The Women (use helicopter on cover to land on bank roof and for escape after the heist)

Richard - will cast a spell to unlock the secure door of the bank (there's one on the roof where we land) - so a book with the word Unlock in the title? Or maybe with an image of an open lock?

Darkness as an Elf Rogue has an Eye for Detail (this from the Class skills link in message 2)
Starting at 3rd level, a Rogue can use a bonus action to make a Wisdom (Perception) check to spot a hidden object. Using this power, she quickly sees where the sack of flour is hidden in the bank but it's up high out of reach. For this action, Darkness needs a book with an Eye or some kind of hidden object on the cover (?) or maybe with the word Wisdom or Perception in the title? Something that will allow her to use this power.

Vicki - has a chair (Rental House) we use to climb up to where the sack is stored and get it down.

Step 2: Security - security guards & alarms
Read a book with a security guard character (to distract him)
Erica - The Women (has an MP in it)
Read a book with the word alarm in the text (to disable it)
Vicki - Rental House (has word alarm in it)

{Create your own additional tasks as needed to fit your plan - N/A, we've got this covered I think}

Step 3: Execute your plan - tell me your plan
Use book titles BUT please use filler words as needed to tell me your plan. Minimum of 4 books

Our plan is to fly to the bank (The Women) to break in and recover the bag of flour. Richard casts a spell to unlock the door (need book). Erica distracts the security guard they run into (The Women security guard) and Vicki disables the alarm (Rental House alarm). Darkness uses her Rogue power of perception (need book) to determine where in the bank the sack of flour is. It's stored up high, so Vicki sets down a chair (Rental House) so we can climb up to grab the sack of flour. We run back out on the roof, get in the helicopter and take off.

That's my best stab at this. Richard and Darkness - what do you think? Darkness - what books are you reading right now? What objects are on the covers or what words are in the titles? If what I laid out won't work we can try to modify the plan to use a book you're reading. But I need some help.

Darkness (darknessofheart) | 29 comments Soo what I am reading let's see there is a lot :

I really like this good work Erica

message 72: by Erica (new)

Erica | 570 comments Maybe we could use the word Brightness to show how you're using your Rogue power of perception - ? I'll ask.

message 73: by Richard (last edited Jan 29, 2025 05:50PM) (new)

Richard (richoman25) | 2829 comments Okay I'll read an Unlock book.

How about I also cast a spell to make sure it's the correct bag & not a decoy bag? I'll look for a book that has 2 identical bags on the cover.

message 74: by Erica (new)

Erica | 570 comments That sounds great!

You need to go to the spreadsheet and put in the author, page count and date read for The Brightness Between Us (I looked in your read books and didn't find it - too many with that name for me to tell what you read). I have added the other details.

Here is a link to the spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

You may need to click an edit button or pencil-shaped icon to access the spreadsheet to make entries. When it opens you will be on the first sheet of Race & Class. Look at the very bottom for Quest 1 and click on that sheet. You'll see your book under Step 2 at the bottom of the list. I'll finish Step 3 after you get your things put in.

Thanks!

I know where to put a book but I didn't know what to write for task

message 88: by Erica (new)

Erica | 570 comments I filled out the task part for you because it was a bit odd (I asked in the Q & A section about it). Your book is the last one on the list at step 2. I just didn't know some of the details.

message 89: by Darkness (new)

Darkness (darknessofheart) | 29 comments Are we done or we need more ?

message 90: by Erica (new)

Erica | 570 comments We are done. Just need to fill in the section 3 on the spreadsheet and submit. I haven't had time until now - but others certainly can also do that.

message 91: by Erica (new)

Erica | 570 comments Okay, I wrote up our plan at section 3. I was going to check us in but Donna has a message that she is currently at the hospital with her husband - so really think it best not to check in right now. Let's give her a chance to sort her real life stuff. But in a week or two any of us can link to our spreadsheet and check in. It's all set.

message 92: by Erica (new)

Erica | 570 comments I went ahead and checked us in with a note to Donna that there is NO RUSH. So now we pray her husband makes a good recovery and wait for our next quest.

message 93: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 980 comments Absolutely, no rush! Thanks for doing that for us. Donna needs to be with her hubby and take care of RL right now. GR can wait.

Quest 1A

The bank planned ahead for a robbery like this. They previously had hired a Drow elf bounty hunter working for Bregan D’aerthe through Jarlaxle. They had him put a Hunter’s mark on the bag of flour. This mark activated when you left the bank with the flour and the bounty hunter was able to track you. Will you return the flour? Are you going to fight the bounty hunter? Are you going to make a deal?

Return the flour:
R
E
T
U
R
N

Fight the Bounty Hunter:
Read a book with a fight in the story
Read a book with a bounty hunter
Read a book with a fugitive
Read a book that starts with a letter in BOUNTY

Make a Deal: Create your own tasks & tell me your story

message 95: by Erica (new)

Erica | 570 comments Oh I vote we fight! I have a book starting with a letter in BOUNTY right now. Might have others coming up (fugitive?) but I won't know until I get to my next few books.
