I finished this one and it was really good! I'll wait until some of you get on here to talk about it but I liked this one.

Jac is kind of. . .annoying.
and I'm shocked her boss acted the way he did. I mean, she held all the cards. how did he think he could take her story and run with it? and of course she would have proof of their affair - why wouldn't he have tried to negotiate - you give me your story (or we co-write it) and I give you this job

this almost feels like rage bait. Jac having that run in with Faye at the hospital and Jac's instant rage at her - the whole interaction
and the boss' conversation with her - all gross and smug. Or maybe the main character is just really angry but I've definitely been really put off by how mad she is.

But I'm listening to this one so maybe that's changing my feel of it.

Meh. I'm just okay with the friends and her coming back to town but I am sad about her grandpa passing. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ ugh, Faye feels like such a fake character. Bleh. I wish she was just a little less twirling mustache bad and a little more believable.

Jac is pretty awful too. She can't seem to play the niceties game - to get what she wants - in any way. If she'd learned the game of talking to faye like faye talks to her, she'd get so much farther and might actually trap Faye. But she just flies off the handle

and what was with her mom's weird reaction to the barrel. I take it that was the case that shouldn't be solved

and the clock was the one that needed to be solved. So Faye must have previous ties to the town?

I don't think she killed her dad either. But then, who? (hide spoiler)]

I'm watching my grandkids today so I'll have to comment when I get home. But I will say this:

(view spoiler)[You have the same basic thoughts I did. Definitely Jac is annoying and Faye is fake as heck. The clock seemed to be key to something as it was so important to Jac's grandpa. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I agree - what happened to Mia was just awful.

I'm a bit disappointed it's just Faye - I feel like she is just so over the top awful.

and I'm finding Jac just as extreme and over the top. I wish the characters were just a little more. . .likeable? I think I'd find it all more believable.

and yes, the reveals from the mom were shocking. I still feel so bad her mom is so mean to her, has these unrealistic expectations. (hide spoiler)]

Faith's pages to learn about her was just ridiculous. And then all the people around the town Faye killed. And with such a trail of bodies behind her. . .really?!

And Jac - I wish she was just a little less over the top. the characters were like caricatures of people - not actually realistic

Nick - I was disappointed in him. I didn't imagine he'd done it but yeah, he was getting suspicious near the end (hide spoiler)]

Through Ch. 12

(view spoiler)[So far I like the relationship among Jac, Sawyer and Nick. They seem like they were pretty close through the years until the incident with Jac's father. I feel bad about her grandfather dying. I would have a difficult time going to his house alone to go through his things like she wants to do.

Faye is a troublemaker, I think. She was really rude in the hospital and then when she saw Jac she changed. But the fact she's with the mayor and he's rich, plus the changes she's making and changing everything about Murder Inn to Manor Inn I'm not sure she has good intentions. Her demeanor when talking to Jac made me suspicious of her but not sure what she's up to.

The Manor sounds creepy for sure! The old caretaker, the murders, the kiln, and now Faye. Was she maybe related to him? What's her real interest? (hide spoiler)]

Through Ch. 25

(view spoiler)[Wow...Faye is something else. Definitely trying to get under Jac's skin. I think she is too obvious to be the one who killed Jac's grandfather, but I can't figure out why she is the way she is. Somebody definitely murdered him. I think it has something to do with the cold case of the college kids and that clock. Even though it's too obvious, I think she probably killed him and it has something to do with the Colleton case. And I believe there is a secret room.

You'd think that Jac would've known that going in Faye's office and .taking the laser wouldn't have held up in court as evidence. But how convenient that Faye reported it stolen. She had to have known that Jac took it, right?

And why is Sawyer seemingly kind of turning against her now? Is it because Jac is just moving too fast without proof or is something else going on?

And I don't think Jac killed her dad (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[Oh, boy, it's all coming together now. Faye is a killer and poor Mia. I wonder what she did to make Faye murder her And Conrad too, ugh! She must've planted the blood in Jac's trunk.

I was pretty shocked to hear about Jac's mom and the man she killed, and poor Jac isn't even really who she thought. That explains why her mom was so mean to her. I think she was probably raped and might've held it against Jac. What a shocker to find out your dad isn't your bio dad. Secrets! Her mom should've told her. I still don't think Jac killed her dad. (hide spoiler)]

OK, so I kind of figured something was going on with Faye and Nick. I thought maybe they were a thing because of how she was towards him and his dad was barely mentioned. What I never considered was that HE killed Jac's dad. I never thought she did. And her mother...now I understand why or how she ended up treating Jac the way she did. She was too worried to let her end up like her, so I get it but she was still wrong.

I thought TOO much happened in these last pages, like the last 25%. Every time I turned a page it seemed like another person was killing or lying or divulging a secret. Just one person after another, so the ending (25%) was too unbelievable for me. What Faye did to all the Colleton girls was just awful. I never thought she'd end up being a serial killer but I don't know. The ending just didn't "fit" to me. Curious to see your thoughts on it all. (hide spoiler)]

Okay, I realized that I never came back to talk about this book because I forgot to check the notify box. I already forgot how to do the spoiler things but this won't give away too much of the book or plot lines.

I did not like Faye at all. I knew something was up with her from the beginning. I liked Jac and she kept me interested in the book. Her mother got on my nerves most of the time and to find out she had a dark past was interesting. I agree the end was fast but I don't read a lot of these books and thought that was kinda normal.
