Right... The only book that gets us the Book Bridge Bonus in July is The Seventh Veil of Salome. I have to keep looking at The Book Thief thread to remind me how we get points so i know how to fill out the SS in July! 😏

That's correct. We almost got it, but not this month... and probably not in July because t..."

I thought that the Seventh Veil of Salome counted for the Bridge Book and the group book for July, So we are supposed to have agreed on a different book for the July group team read?

Shaw | 681 comments I also didn’t realize that the diversity points continue and with female authors themselves not counting per Ashley’s post I’ll have to change some of mine. Although I really wanted to read one or two so I might just have 8 that count.

Shaw... thank you for getting clarification from Ashley in the Q&A thread to correct my misunderstanding of what counts for which points in July, as it pertains to The Seventh Veil of Salome. I'm glad to know we'll be able to max out our points as much as possible!

Shaw | 681 comments I had to smile a little when I read it cuz we both were kinda right since we can do more than one team read. Which seems awfully ambitious to me rn.

Female authors only do not count as diverse since majority of writers now days are female. Here is the list of more definition of diversity.

1. Racial and ethnic minorities (e.g., Black, Indigenous, Asian, Latino/Hispanic authors)
2. LGBTQIA+ authors
3. Authors with disabilities
4. Authors from religious minorities
5. Authors from developing countries or non-Western cultures

Catherine (royaltiescmb) | 498 comments Ruth you are so lucky with book title challenge. I think I had only one book on my TBR that started with C but have not gotten to it, and not sure I will.

Shaw | 681 comments Anyone have any ideas on a team read book this month? I have been struggling to find diversity authors with this month’s genre and title so I’m pretty sure my selections will not be very team friendly.

Catherine (royaltiescmb) | 498 comments Shaw I open to anything as well I am finding most "Adventure" Books are more romance than anything

Here are some of my ideas
These Summer Storms by Sarah MacLean Wedding Dashers by Heather McBreen The Jetsetters by Amanda Eyre Ward Again, But Better by Christine Riccio Places We've Never Been by Kasie West A Short Walk Through a Wide World by Douglas Westerbeke Every Time I Go on Vacation, Someone Dies (The Vacation Mysteries, #1) by Catherine Mack

If books are on this list do they work? As some are not specifically MPG

Ruth | 89 comments Hi everyone!
My points dropped considerably in August because I just could not collect extra points. I would expect a lot more books to start with the letter 'R' but it got to the point where I felt I was spending more time looking for Travel/Adventure books that started with R than I was reading books (that also to a degree fit a couple of other challenges I'm participating in). And it was hard to get diversity points too.

Sadly, I'm falling short on finding ANY Eco Sci-Fi books, let alone some that have a title starting with R... and might possibly be a written by an author that works for diversity.

I just have to say I'm beyond impressed with Judith being able to find so many books that fit the tasks and start with the letter J!!! Please let me know what listing you're using to explore the Eco-Sci Fi or Nature-focused Sci Fi because I am struggling.

Shaw | 681 comments I'm trying to add more diversity to my selections but I think I will have to try something other than a science fiction genre search for S titles by authors that count. I keep adding like 3 books to my TBR for every one that counts.
And two of my selections are large books so I might augment with one or two books that are shorter and not so diverse to streamline the reading process.

Ruth | 89 comments If it’d be helpful, I’m willing to join on a team GR for one of the books found by someone else that has a title that starts with their first initial… as long as it’s for a task where I haven’t already found a book, especially those that start with R.

Shaw | 681 comments I'm ok with a team read as well. My sci fi book tastes are a bit eclectic but so far I am planning on the following:

The Star Diaries by Stanisław Lem
Solo Command Star Wars Legends (Wraith Squadron, #3) by Aaron Allston
Survivor's Quest Star Wars Legends by Timothy Zahn
Stargate by Pauline Gedge
The Stardust Grail by Yume Kitasei
Skyhunter (Skyhunter, #1) by Marie Lu
The Salvage Crew (The Salvage Crew #1) by Yudhanjaya Wijeratne

And then Battlefield Earth A Saga of the Year 3000 by L. Ron Hubbard audiobook version and the German bestseller The Swarm by Frank Schätzing are the longer books so I will probably do a shorter book but I haven't decided between Scorpio (Frontlines Evolution, #1) by Marko Kloos or Sea of Rust (Sea of Rust, #1) by C. Robert Cargill

I'd read Scorpio if others want to... but is it more of a team read more of a point getter than Shaw and Judith getting the book title bonus points for all of their books? The two seem to work against each other because that book title bonus is really generous.

Either way, Shaw... thanks for suggesting some sci-fi books!

Catherine (royaltiescmb) | 498 comments this month options seem quite hard as I don't read many books about the environment

message 173: by Bubbles (new)

Bubbles | 67 comments Sorry I didn't get to do so well last month but I will be working my butt off this month :)

I am game for any of those books as a buddy read. I would LOVE to do The Stardust Grail though because I have had it on my list forever

Catherine (royaltiescmb) | 498 comments I am game for The Stardust Grail by Yume Kitasei The Stardust Grail by Yume Kitasei

And if we dont want to read as a team we can ask for it to be a buddy read.

Catherine (royaltiescmb) | 498 comments I think we are missing out on IBR so any two people can sign up for it. I have been looking at other teams books and seeing what has been submitted, If anyone is interested in reading Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy and Dune (Dune #1) by Frank Herbert let me know and I will submit it

message 176: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 681 comments I’d be good with doing a buddy read for Scorpio and/or the Stardust Trail.

message 177: by Catherine (new)

Catherine (royaltiescmb) | 498 comments Ruth I will request The Stardust Grail by Yume Kitasei
