Detailed Editing and Beta Reading

I am a very enthusiastic reader who has a passion for literature, editing, and discussing everything writing. I have professional experience as a writing tutor throughout my under graduate career as well as have accomplished a Bachelor's degree in History and a degree in Professional Writing - public writing and rhetoric (so a lot of writing!) In addition, I have a Master's Degree in library information science specialized in information management and data science. But my true passion is in talking about writing and helping writer's to find their voice to create work that showcases their vision and talents.

I can help writer's with specific feedback in grammar, sentence structure/flow, and character/story descriptors as well as general feedback on plot, character development, and overall story development. I have experience editing in all genres including academic writing, fiction, novels, short stories, and many others. I am often found reading fantasy, romance, mystery, thriller, historical fiction, sci-fi, classics, but have read many books throughout my studies. My feedback style is generally in comments within a document so that I can be specific with questions and suggestions that encourage the development of details or story development as well as pin point sentence level suggestions to provide clarity for your readers. I will also provide a follow-up email or document attachment upon conclusion with my overall impressions, plot clarity, and patterns that I see. Although I am willing to cater to your style of feedback that works best for your writing process. I will never make edits within the document, only suggestions as it is your work and your story to be told so you should have all autonomy. In addition, I think it's really important to acknowledge what writer's do well as well as providing feedback and suggestions when editing and beta reading. It takes a lot of courage to write a book and tell your story so I think that should be celebrated! In my spare time I can be found teaching ice skating or tutoring in AP Language and Literature so I have learned that there are many ways to get a point across and everyone learns and interpret differently which I try to bring to my editing style/process.
My fee is .005 per word and I generally have about a 1 week turn around time. If I need more time I will actively communicate with you. I am very thorough with my work and take great care in the development of stories. I am actively working on developing a website and will be adding that to this post soon. I am available for discussion throughout my time beta-reading and a few days following as I believe discussion and communication is the best way to develop ideas! My fee is centered around line editing, developmental editing, as well as any grammatical things that I see along the way. I typically do this within comments and suggestions within a cloud-based working document as it's clearer and causes less confusion. I will also look for consistency amongst your plot, actions of the character, the development of your characters, do any fact checking along the way, as well as pose questions within the document where I think there could be expansion on an idea or further clarity, I will provide a longer document at the end of my time reading that details the larger themed areas that I thought were done really well along with areas that could be improved within the writing.
