The Assassin’s Blade is a prequel- it’s a series of novellas. Some people like to read this first because it’s chronological order. Some people like to read it third or fourth, this way you get connected to the story and characters before going back and learning their backstories. The novellas become more important/relevant later in the series so reading 3rd or 4th keeps the stories and characters fresher in your mind as well.

I personally read it third and enjoyed that order! I think of other series I like, for example The Hunger Games. I wouldn’t read The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes first only because it’s chronological. The author typically makes the prequel after for a reason and different kind of impact. But you know yourself and whatever you think you’ll enjoy more ◡̈

Empire of Storm and Tower of Dawn can be read in tandem if you want! These two books take place at the same time, in different parts of the world so it’s kinda fun to read them together but definitely not necessary! You can look up guides online which tell you which chapters to switch books if you go this route. A little daunting but I loved it!

Miltsu I read the assassin's blade first and it really helped me understand celaena more before the first book and really enjoyed it that way but I didn't remember the details very good when they became important

Also tandem read EOS and TOD you wont regret it

Kindle Jenner | 328 comments I read publication order and that was perfect in my opinion because there is a shift in storytelling from books 2-3 so reading AB after CoM works well. Now hear me out cause idk if this is a popular opinion but I don’t recommend the tandem read. Read EoS and ToD on their own so you can truly appreciate both books.
