Just checking in. Excited to start this one! I'm still seeing good reviews. I just finished my current book and don't want to start something else, so if I end up with extra time tomorrow I might start this one a day early.

I ended up with another read starting on the 20th, but this one publishes in a week, so I need to get moving.
I tend to read slower.

I am at 20%
The writing style (view spoiler)
The characters (view spoiler)
The mystery (view spoiler)
Not a spoiler - it is in the description
But is PAR even a real thing? I am going to have to look that up. Sounds so interesting. I like data, so those snippets are super cool to me in the book.
I ended at 16% (through chapter 7)
Re your 20% spoilers:
The writing style - (view spoiler)
The characters - (view spoiler) I'm enjoying getting to know the characters and liking the interactions within the group.
The mystery - (view spoiler)
I don't know if PAR is based on a real thing, but how interesting. I love the idea of this book so far and I'm curious to see where it goes.

I'm still only at the end of ch 7 - What I find interesting is that PAR is supposed to be solving cold cases, but this is not a cold case. This is a very active case they are on.

Right! So I'm confused about what their directive is. They mentioned the profiling team - which I believe is the what the Criminal Minds Behavioral Analysis Unit is based on? So they're definitely separate.

I ended at 93% through chapter 45. I hate when real life gets in the way and I ave to put a book aside at this point when it's so engaging!

I finished! I'll write my review tomorrow, but I thought it was excellent. I was a little worried when I first started reading it because the writing was strange due to the MC's idiosyncrasies, but once it settled in I didn't want to put it down. I can't wait for the next in the series already.

Head Cases follows an enigmatic group of FBI agents as they hunt down a murderer seeking his own justice in this electrifying—and commercial—series debut.
Gardner Camden is a walking analytical brain with an affinity for riddles, puzzles, and codes. It makes him the perfect fit for the Patterns and Recognition (PAR) unit of the FBI, a team of five brilliant but misfit agents tasked with solving cold cases. Gardner's smart, but he's all business--except for his seven-year-old daughter and occasional visits to his elderly mother, he prioritizes his work and justice over everything else, no matter the cost. With rumors of PAR about to be disbanded, the team can’t afford to make any mistakes.
A serial killer from one of Gardner’s solved cases, presumed to be dead for over a decade, is found murdered, and then soon after, another body with a similar story. The mastermind murderer has left clues and riddles for Gardner and his team--a mathematician, a sniper and weapons expert, a computer analytics specialist, and their leader, a career agent--as they track him across the country. With the threat of PAR dissolving, Gardner must work to solve the riddles before it’s too late.
McMahon’s suspenseful and irresistible thriller confronts the scales of justices in the face of a twisted vengeance plot as this engaging cast of characters works together to stop a misguided vigilante.
