Same 🥲
Tessie wrote: "I tried to come up with a counter but I just genuinely don’t know more than the basics"same, i'm realizing now as i'm scrolling through this debate just how much i don't know about this topic lmao
Idk, 'is being queer a choice' maybe?"
Sure
Uhhh one of the politics ones??"
If you or someone makes a standing on one I’ll try and counter it
the way this question is worded is a bit funny. a scientific theory cannot ever be proven to be true, but it can be supported by evidence. in my opinion, i think the evolution theory is very accurate and scientifically backed.

Should we rename it?
does everyone know the difference between evolution and the theory of evolution? hazel brought up a good point in the other chat, evolution is a good, established fact in science. the theory of evolution specifically pertains to the idea of how and why evolution happens, this discussion i assume is exclusively referring to within humans.
and i don't believe we all understand what theory means in science. a theory is not just an assumption and just because something is a theory does not mean it's not true, i just want to break it down with the theory of gravity real quick, which i hope we can all agree is true
fact - a raw observation of reality. it happens, huzzah. example: apple drops to the ground
law - reason for a consistent pattern or relationship, the rule of 'what' exactly is happening. example: newton’s law of universal gravitation, every particle in the universe has an attraction to other particles proportional to their masses and inversely proportional to the square distance between them
theory - a well supported explanation, the 'why'/'how' the facts happen and 'why'/'how' the law works. example: einstein's general theory of relativity, mass and energy curve spacetime, and objects move around those curves
for normal people, our general understanding of the definitions of these words would lead us to assume that a fact/law is "better" than a theory when in fact it is not, because a theory is what actually explains and makes sense of what we've previously established as true.
unlike math, science does NOT work in absolutes of 'proven' 'disproven', it works with evidence and support, which is why no theory, including evolution, ever, can be proven true

WELL SAID
girl i literally would not have brought it up if it weren't for you i didn't even realize people might not know the difference or what it really meant and then you said and i was like oh wait that makes more sense 😭😭😭

THANK YOU FOR THIS

Firstly, why do you believe the theory of evolution to be true, or more factual than the creationist theo..."
