♡»» Should There be LGBTQ+ Content in Childrens' Books? What About Religious Content?

By that same logic you could say that crushes usually lead to sex, right? Which means that children shouldn't read books with crushes in them, right? Lots of children's books depict things that could possibly eventually lead to sex. I literally own a book I got in first grade, Junie B. Jones and the Mushy Gushy Valentime. It's targeted at really young kids, and I read it when I was a really young kid. I also watched all the Hotel Transylvania movies when I was young, and one of them has a kissing scene at Mavis and that other dude's wedding. Later on Mavis also gets pregnant. BUT GUESS WHAT I STILL DID NOT KNOW WHAT SEX WAS. crazy, i know

its a bacon thing, I can't explain it without going back months. sry (ask sol)

well that doesn't mean that it should be banned from all books. not everyone is Christian. not all Christians believe the same things.

Isn't that the guy who's rage-baiting. Can't remember.

I personally don't understand what the big issue is, they're just side characters. It (obviously) doesn't mention anything sexual. BUT... I have seen some people say that Shannon Messenger (the author) only added gay characters this far into the series because she might have felt a little societal pressure and hoped it would look good, or something like that. I think there should be LGBT+ characters in a book for queer readers to feel represented, but the characters should not feel FORCED, like these ones apparently did. It wasn't really necessary for her to mention these characters being gay, but not a bad thing either. I'm just not sure what the big deal is? Feel free to explain why some people are giving Messenger such backlash, I really want to know. Thx

100000000% agreed. But the people I saw were saying that it ruined the whole series.

i agree with thisss. it is important for the representation so young queer readers can have someone to relate to, which (even though it wasn't that long ago 😭) i think it has been so cool to see more queer characters in books for younger kids(that aren't in the form of sidekicks who are immediately killed off 😭) (i do think they should keep it around like 4th grade)
idk if this makes sense I'm kind of just rambling 😭

EXACTLY.

exactly! like i would feel so much less lonesome and confused knowing there are people who are just like me. now, whenever i feel frustrated with myself for not being girly enough or too masculine or whatever, i think about all the transmasc and biologically fem nonbinary people i've seen in books and in real life, and feel so much more at ease. some childrens' books do have mentions though, and it doesn't even need to be "sexualized" or "sexually explicit" or "pornographic", unlike many people claim. just a character with two moms or a boy who dresses like a girl is enough 🩷🙏

it was autocorrect's fault. see! it tried to make it autocorrect fault. it wasn't meeeeeeeeee
(I'm kidding)

also, this might be me projecting, but alvar (side character) read as super aro-coded

I very much agree with you. Some books which I found is NOT GOOD have sexual content in them and the school is "FINE" with it?!?!?! There is many court fights against parents child's school because of this reason btw. T-T
I dunno man. I remember seeing an article (and by seeing i mean my mother showed me the article after she found it) about how there's sex books in public schools and it showed ILLISTRATIONS. FRICKEN ILLISTRATIONS of a dude giving another dude a bj
(this was like in either early 2021 or sometime around the time biden first got in)
