I have a strong dislike to that movie, it's all wrong for me. Hope you'll enjoy it more than I did.

Not sure if having a lively four-year-old around does not defeat the purpose of a colouring book 🤭 It's a fun and relaxing activity, though.

No I agree with you. He would grab my arm to get my attention.
I guess next time, coloring with Atlas will be better when coloring
Thomas the Choo Choo coloring book!!

I did find my mind totally engrossed in the process.

I haven't watched it recently and didn't take to it the last time but maybe this time it will be okay. The screenplay Pride and Prejudice: screenplay is by Deborah Moggach. Emma Thompson also contributed but was not credited.

Lindenblatt wrote: "Pam wrote: "This weekend I watched the 1995 TV series of Pride and Prejudice."

My husband watched it with me. He is actually more of an Austen fan than I am. We both thought it was really good! I found the mother's voice to be super annoying, though. I know she is supposed to come off that way, but it was hard for me to listen to! I think I saw the movie with Kiera Knightly years ago but can't remember. I'm reluctant to watch any other Austen adaptations since, with the exception of Lady Susan, I haven't read the books. I prefer reading the book first.

message 263: by Lindenblatt (new)

Lindenblatt | 671 comments I finished Love and Marriage in the Age of Jane Austen by Rory Muir this weekend. I wasn't too thrilled with how the facts were presented. The book is packed full with endless examples of random people who met, courted, married and grew old with each other. Now I know that falling in love and having a happy marriage weren't all that different in the age of Jane Austen than they are today.

I was more interested in the differences than the similarities and, consequently, found the chapters concerning legal and financial matters the most interesting. The love letter chapter was beautiful, though!

I do recognise Muir's effort and attention to detail, nevertheless, I took his Gentlemen of Uncertain Fortune: How Younger Sons Made Their Way in Jane Austen's England off my reading list for the time being.

message 264: by Kathy (new)

Kathy E | 2451 comments I finished Emma for the second time. I first read this in 2016. I appreciated the character of Emma much more than I did the first time. She is a flawed character but she is spirited and conscientious. She takes Knightley's measured advice about how to treat people seriously. I've grown to like this heroine of Austen's.

It's a mystery to me Lesle why Goodreads doesn't have widgets for this and also the 100 000 page challenge and oters that in theory could be automated.

meantime, I wonder if there is an easier way to update the many differennt challenges here? I'm guessing whatever it will be it will be difficult to do.

Anisha a wonderful thought but I have found that Goodreads takes forever to do such minor updates.

Actually I would if you really do not mind. I was thinking it would be a nice touch to have totals for each category that we have enjoyed delving into.

Example: These are not real numbers

51 books Read
43 Movies Watched
37 Listened to Audio
Puzzels
Music
Etc...

What do you think?

I do have plans on reading one of her other books than the norm before years end.
Either Lady Susan or Sandition

Lindenblatt | 671 comments ...actually, John had a few more creative ideas, so we can still add some variety in the three remaining months:

completing a Jane Austen wordsearch, a Jane Austen jigsaw, designing and making a Jane Austen bookmark, a Jane Austen piece of art, baking a Jane Austen birthday cake, sewing a Jane Austen bonnet, having a regency picnic with friends or family, researching your town/country at the time of Jane Austen...>

Anisha wrote: "Currently watching P&P 1995 tv drama, written by Andrew Davies..."

My very favourite Jane Austen adaptation, Anisha! I just lack the time to re-watch it often as it is quite long. (Which is great, of course, but does require a few evenings, usually in a row.)

I just about kept up with maths and stats, but I did take away enough to appreciate that gathering data and expressing it in a meaningful way is not an easy task, so what you have done here is impressive and that's quite a skill you have Lindenblatt and I hope you have many opportunities to do this.
