Intentionally read a book that is that poorly rated on Goodreads!

Here, I thought this was about how I would shelve them. :)

So far, I have only completed State of Fear, and I gave it 3 stars. I put it in as 'Own' but that seems like a more common shelf.

It does have a 3 star rating on Goodreads.

It took me awhile to figure out that all the many items listed on the spreadsheet are shelves! Not my own source or rating but an actual shelf someone made.

And it is made even harder that the shelf must match exactly. Challenging!

I finished The Mistletoe Mystery last night and put it under Series. It also fits for 2024-reading-challenge but I'll let Bec put her book there.

And yes, you need to look the top shelves for the book. In the book's GR page, under Genres click ...More then ...Show All. Then look to see which shelves fit. It does make it a little easier as we go along because I don't bother to check for a shelf that's been checked off.

I finished reading Orbital - surprisingly dense for a 135pg novella, but amazing descriptions.

As Robin is filling out Sci-Fi, I've put this one in for 2025, as there were only two books in the spreadsheet for that prompt.

What did you think of Mistletoe mystery? I've been meaning to read this.

It was ok. I haven't read any of the other books in the series, my book club picked it because it's short and Christmasy (no one else that picked it has read any of the others either). There's not really a mystery per se, and it's pretty easy to figure out what that is early on. It has an O. Henry feel too it though. I gave it 3 stars.

Thanks. I have read the others, but I did read a few reviews that said there is no mystery in this one. Probably not a good one for you to read first then as you now won't be that interested in the others. I really enjoyed the first one.

Read and finished, and put in for ghost-story. A very good ghost story.

If I'm reading it right, we have eight wildcards. I'd propose using them for all the geographical shelves we haven't got a choice for - which is basically all of them except China and South America. What does anyone think?

I also finished up The Christmas Clause for another 144pg, although it doesn't have any shelves which haven't already been used. Still, more towards another wildcard.

Finished A Short Walk Through a Wide World and put it under stand-alone although we can move it around if need be. Trying to push myself through The Midnight Library and I'll probably put it under Bought, which seems to have the fewest options.

We're doing excellent work on those wildcards! This way no one has to read a 1-star book unless they want to 😄

*After Life - it's not yet published so only fits for young adult and fiction (and contemporary but that's already ticked off)
*The Things We Keep - which fits for a whole heap including all the years

I added The Dark Flood so we have an Africa option now, I'm not going to be able to finish Midnight Library until after Friday (my library copy ran out of time, gotta get a new one!) and I'm still on my quest to finish these library books before I have to return them so now A Week in December and Love & Saffron are up next. (Will I ever read a library book before I'm out of time? Chances are low!)

I've just finished After Life. Not a particularly enjoyable experience because I was reading it on my phone rather than kindle (ARC which I couldn't' get on kindle and didn't realise until after I had accepted it!). I liked the story, although it was very young adult!

Here is me for the last half an hour going over my books on my ARC shelf and kindle unlimited shelf to see which ones fit the prompts we need most. I was going to go France but I've just seen JennH is doing that...so back to the drawing board :)

Decided to go for it anyway as it fits other prompts too.

I did have a look in the sheet, but the three in the spots it would fit - Mystery, Cozy Mystery and Romance - aren't showing a lot of other shelves in the Completed sheet, although that might be because they were deleted when they were claimed.

The three in question are The Kamogawa Food Detectives, currently in Mystery (I loved that book, BTW, Bea - what did you think)
Motif for Murder, currently in Cozy Mystery and
Eleanor & Park, currently in Romance

If any of them could fill a different spot, then feel free to slot in The Christmas Clause in one of their places. It's so limited, because it only has five genres at all, and no top shelves page.

I haven't had much reading time today, but I'll carry working at Crying in H Mart, as it's one of our two biographies.

I was looking at my TBR and found some books that would work for a few prompts that have 0 or 1 options. I can't promise that I'll get to them before the end of the readathon though.

I've just finished Xmas Break and put it for want, which we only had 2 choices for so I'm glad to knock that one off.
Now to decide what to start next...not sure if I'll be able to finish a book over the weekend. Daughters dance concert, nephews birthday etc.

Bec, I am OK for any of my books to be moved, but I understood that the shelf had to be exact. Unless I missed it Motif for Murder has Louisiana but not United States as a shelf on the first page of the shelves.

PS. It would have been nice for a switch to wait until I had responded.

Thanks, Bec. I am new to this and at first did not understand the shelves myself and assumed that Louisiana = United States. I should have corrected it. However, I have moved that book now.

Thanks to our members for working out miscommunications in a positive way! Everyone is eager to get slots filled in and we are doing great!

The tags/shelves on GR are often confusing (or even wrong, like marking fiction for a nonfiction book). They are dependent on what individual readers choose. And there are different ones for Favorite, Favorites, Favourite, and Favourites, etc.

Emily I noticed the formula for Total Tags Read was missing a few cells so I fixed it. Not sure if that's the case for all teams...

I went to check the spreadsheet, and spotted that Bec's After Life had gotten into my column, so I've given it back to her!

It looks like we've all been avoiding claiming ones we had lots of options for, so I'm going to break the trend (and right a wrong), and put A Christmas Carol in for Fiction.

I don't believe there's a problem with two of us reading the same book, as long as we put it in different shelves - Jenn, I think we both read the same book this time last year, as well!

We're now up to ELEVEN wild cards. I still reckon we should use eight of them for the geographies we don't have anything marked up for, completed or possible!

Not sure how much more I'm going to get read, as I've got house guests coming tomorrow, but I've still got a couple of hours this evening to see what I can do.

Forgot to say I should finish one more audio, and possibly my Kindle book. Will be a busy weekend with the band's Santa Breakfast, baking cookies for a swap, said swap, and other holiday running around. There is a Silent Book Club on Sunday though that I may be able to squeeze in, that's a good hour of uninterrupted reading.
