Deja Colleen | 10 comments Hi Y'all. I am just starting to get prepared to publish and want some feedback on as much as possibly can get (so if you would want to read this and are a beta reader, I would love to share the full novel for your feedback and insight) so I am wondering if this blurb would entice you to read the first book of the series. It is a 18+ dark modern romantasy with five female protagonists. It is called A Murder of Secrets & Lies and is the first book in the Monster Island series. Thanks in advance for even reading this.

Cheers,

Deja

Welcome to Monster Island, a reality television competition where monsters of all kinds compete for a chance of a lifetime: to live on the forbidden island on which they compete. But before they can even earn the chance to fully compete, they have to navigate the academic setting of one of the island’s most prestigious universities. After twenty-five years of providing thrills and chills to the world wondering what secrets this island holds, this year is sure to be life changing. Promising plot twists and cliffhangers, this is sure to be your greatest guilty pleasure. If you’re not convinced, just meet some of our newest contestants in this year's line-up:

Hi, I am Jynx. Yes, I am a human. Rare here, I know. I am from Bordeaux Beach, California and I have spent the past fifteen years making a living out of unaliving people with one specific goal: reach Monster Island and take out my final target. I could give a flying fu—oh, we can’t swear here? Sh—oooops. My bad. What I was trying to say before I so rudely interrupted myself, was that I don’t care much about this game or even the island. I have a mission to complete, and gods help anyone who gets between me and the man I am here to take down. I will do anything to take out my target and get back to my man-harem, the three juicy demons I wishfully call mine…even though they keep telling me they aren’t, they are so cute when they do that. Anywho, I have a job to do.

I am Bowen, a wolf shifter from New York. I don’t really want to be here, but my egomaniacal boss is literally forcing me to be. And when I say boss, I mean the monstrous mafioso, Don Mariano. I am proud of how cold and unfeeling I am and I certainly do not want to interact with others, even if I have to be here. My life depends on it. So here I will be for the foreseeable future. I just hope the clothes are good.

Hola, I am Xavi, a marigold spirit from Eternity, you may know it as the Underworld. I am here to see if I can finally find a place where I can escape my horrible fate. The stars have foretold that I will have a harrowing future that will shift the way things are for the entire world, and so I left home, mi familia and all that I knew and loved to keep them safe. But it wasn’t far enough. And now I am seeking sanctuary on the island, the island that is protected and safe from the rest of the world. If I can win this game, then I can stay. And hopefully escape my doomed fate.

Hi. I am Lilith. I am not sure what kind of monster I am. I was the creation of a human with a science fetish who thought he could play at being a god. I have lived alone for the past forty years since I was brought to life and have spent the entire time hiding away from the human and monster population alike. I am too frightening to look at, my scars and bolts and mint-green skin make me hideous. Even my maker said so as he abandoned me to die. But I can’t continue to live in the attic of a library. So I am trying to see if I can win this game and finally find a place where I can be at peace away from society. But in order to do that, I will have to be more visible than ever I have been. I will have to face the world and my own fears. But it will be worth it. I hope.

Hello darlings, I am Pharah. I am a mummy from ancient Egypt. My tomb was discovered in 1820 by an archeologue who turned out to be a most deceptive lover. Hiding from me the fact that he was a witch, and as I had been murdered and sacrificed by a witch thousands of years before he happened upon my sarcophagus, needless to say I felt a little betrayed. After leaving him, I travelled the world over in hiding. That was until the great reveal when Empyrean kind were exposed to the human world, around forty years ago. When this dastardly man reached out to try and contact me again a few years ago, I began to wonder where I could go to be safe from him. I had been applying for Monster Island ever since. And this year, I was accepted. I have a chance to find a place where he is not, and I can be free of his torment.

This year’s lineup promises to be dramatic and thrilling. But let's not forget some of the locals who make this show all the more enticing. From the proprietor of our favourite bar, Ronan Black, the mixed bull and bison shifter with a handsomely marred face and dark past. The control freak of a Professor Huntley Maddox with a secret hiding in his spirit. To the brooding vampire police officer, Æroh Price and his partner the stone-cold gargoyle, DuQuesne LeBeaux each with their own secrets to hide.

We all have our reasons for wanting to go to Monster Island, but not all of them are good for us.

Which lies will these contestants tell to get their way, their desires? What are they willing to sacrifice to grasp their dreams?

Find out on this season of Monster Island.
