The Dresden Files is always fun, especially when Lt Cruz plays a bit role. I'm also enjoying the Cat books and am looking forward to starting the Wayfarers.. Enjoy your books.

Thanks, Bill! I will miss the Dresden books; but the graphic novels give a little extra, so, that keeps me in that world.

The Cat books are not serious and fairly short. I may just do Cat books and Poirot as alternates, so I have something fun and easy. I am still tinkering with my lists.

message 6: by Anne (new)

Anne | 451 comments I love this list. I have read and enjoyed all the Dresden and Wayfarers books. I haven't read the other books, but I have enjoyed The Cat Who . . . and Agatha Christie books I've read. I also read a couple of the earlier Tana French books.

Thanks again. Dresden and the Wayfarers have been put off long enough. I need to finish out the series. I keep thinking about The Expanse and not getting to continue it, because of sooo many other series I have going. I will miss Dresden, but I still have the graphic novels to look forward to.

yyyeess. I am really going to try! I am hoping to get a majority of the books read on both lists; even if I don't complete both. So reading 20+ would be great.

Thanks, Michelle; I think so too. I keep wondering about adding more fun stuff to the other list; but may just leave it alone and stay disciplined. We'll see.

Uhm, yes, Jackie!!! I know I fussed at you already about starting. Mmmmm 🤨🤔🤔

The books start off cheeky and fun, and get darker with each book. So, whenever you decide to start, just keep that in mind and just go with the flow. I do hope you have fun with the series, if you decide to read it. ☺️

Okay, I had to do another switch.

This list had The Cat Who.... series; but I realized that I do NOT have all of the books.

I do have the Harry Bosch books, so, that series is replacing The Cats... *sigh*. I think I am done switching things around. It is what it is. 🤷🏽‍♀️😮‍💨

Completed: Side Jobs

Side Jobs (The Dresden Files, #12.5) by Jim Butcher

4 Stars

A bunch of short stories to keep you going until the next Dresden!

If you have not tapped into the series, then I do recommend. We start with tame, school-boy humor; to a much darker themed series.

Make sure you read this in order, to avoid spoilers.

Edit: I just realized that I had started this in 2015, but quickly realized that I was reading out of order and stopped. Phew!

Completed: Brief Cases #15.5

Brief Cases (The Dresden Files, #15.5) by Jim Butcher

4 Stars

Another set of short stories in Dresdens world; but the difference is, we get differing viewpoints from secondary characters.

Molly, Butters, Maggie, and even Moose. I really enjoyed these. Some of the stories are also in the graphic novel series, especially the Big Foot stories.

Recommended

I love the Bigfoot stories too Alondra. Maybe he should do a spin off series.

Yes! Spinoff series. But only after he finishes this series out, it's been a long time since the last book. I'm very impatient.

Agreed. I have been waffling on catching up, because I know there's only a one or two books left in the series.

I wouldn’t mind a story or two about some of the other wizards either. Really he could just give us anything Dresden.

True. In this one, we did get a story from Warden Luccio, which was pretty sweet.

Completed: A Closed and Common Orbit

A Closed and Common Orbit (Wayfarers, #2) by Becky Chambers

4.5 Stars

I really, really enjoyed this.

The world(s) we are in, are still grimy and exciting; still a ton of alien species to learn about and a plot that has stops and starts as the MCs try to figure things out. That's okay, and I can dig it.

This is story is told mainly from 2 viewpoints; Jane-23 (Pepper) and Sidra (Lovelace). From past to present, until those converge. I had an inkling of the end result, but not totally. I liked the journey there, though. It was heartbreaking and sad, but that test of friendship is sometimes needed, maybe not to that extent; but definitely needed in order to evolve.

Ultimately, I think the story was about friendships, testing the limits of those friendships, and what it really means to be a true friend. It's family. You must nurture, give and take; as is required, to evolve, to grow and to find love in it.

This can be read as a standalone book. You do not have to know anything of the previous book to enjoy this; but I think it may help to know Sidra's (Lovelace) backstory, but not necessary IMHO, as the author does explain it. Of course, for those that love all the nuance and intricacies of relationships; reading does add that flavor.

Completed: Angels Flight

Angels Flight (Harry Bosch, #6; Harry Bosch Universe, #8) by Michael Connelly

4.5 Stars

I really enjoyed this entry. Maybe it's because its been so long, and I miss this series and this character; or it's just because this was a solid story? I think it's a little bit of both.

Racial tensions are at an all time high in Los Angeles, CA.; during the 90s. The LAPD are still reeling from Rodney King, the riots, and subsequent acquittal of morally corrupt cops. Enter the death of a high profile civil rights lawyer, and you have a powder-keg waiting to be lit.

Harry and his team, which happen to consist of 2 black detectives, looks "just right." So, politics, race, personal issues, murder and ignorance come together in a moderately paced but well-written story. We get emotions and thoughts from all sides; how the cops see it, how the community sees it, and the truth. I'm so glad I finally got back to this series.

Oh yeah, Harry and his wife are a whole other issue. Good grief!

Completed: Peace Talks

Peace Talks (The Dresden Files, #16) by Jim Butcher

3.75 Wizarding Stars

This is not the best Dresden files, but it does set us up nicely for the next book; which, I fear, will be dark and bloody. Let me tell you why:

- Thomas tries to kill an accord member! Why?? What the fluff!?? I need answers!
- Who is stronger than Mab?? OMG!!!
- That Winter Knight mantle is sus. and weird. All I know is, the friction with Molly is not cool and Harry needs to focus on Karrin.
- Marcone
- Lara in action
- Loyalty

The last fight (??) is just... ugh, but did we not see this coming?? The gloves are off and personal beefs are going to be put aside, for now. Its mortals versus immortals. Who's coming with me!
