Tor, short for "The Onion Router," works by sending internet traffic through a network of relays, called "onion routers," where data is encrypted multiple times with layers of encryption, effectively obscuring the origin of the traffic and protecting user privacy by routing it through multiple random nodes before reaching its final destination, making it difficult to trace back to the user; this process is known as "onion routing."
