Jen, if you don't mind moving The Art of Racing in the Rain to #5, we could read it together:)Oh fun, I don't mind at all, I'll shift it around
Sally, I will read There are Rivers in the Sky with you. Do we have to do it at 6? Because I have another huge BR there. I wil add in to the Buddy Reads (adding Sally) - one with Diana and Jen, and a new Melanie and Sue one.... I just arrived on vacation, so I will do it in the next day or so...
Sally, I just want to say that I adored the Fox Wife! I loved it so so much!!!! I have the feeling you will too.

Sure. I'd love to read it with you. We'll read it whenever you want. Also, I added a couple to my list

I have made my trim list into a next in series list so that I get some of them finished! So I have no buddy reads. However, there may be a time when I join in on a read, so many good books listed!
OK so the first number for 2025 (please make it a better year and let me find a job) is: #12
I'd already picked it then looked at my list and saw that number 5 had Oryx and Crake (On the Canada list) so I was tempted to move it but perhaps I'll just check off 5 early.
Out of my possibilities, I think I am gonna go with: The Last Murder at the End of the World by Stuart Turton
Can't believe we're so close to 2025 already!
LoL, because this is the ONLY author whom I have only one book left for! And I am just not in the mood for her (Sarah Donati) right now-we will have to see if I keep my trim record of not reading alive in 2025! Or maybe I will just choose a different book and move poor Sarah.
My # 12 is On the Wrong Track by Steve Hockensmith
It's # 2 in the "Holmes on the Range" series. I loved the first one and have just never gotten to more in the series, so I'm glad for this "push."
My #12 is The Evening and the Morning by Ken Follett. I've been wanting to reread Pillars of the Earth and wanted to read the prequel first. At 920 pages it also fits the Going Long Read.
My #12 is a cozy mystery - Cake on a Hot Tin Roof - 2nd in a cozy mystery series one of my sisters gave me a while ago. Nice light fun start! Unlike the last 2 years where first pick ended up one of the few NF on my list, and it was my worst read in 2024.P.S I just uploaded my updated list to my thread. Some changes may happen if a couple books don't get read this month but they won't change #12.
Olivermagnus wrote: "My #12 is The Evening and the Morning by Ken Follett. I've been wanting to reread Pillars of the Earth and wanted to read the prequel first. The Legend of Baggar Vance for me. I've been reading quite a few Southern/Georgia books lately. hmmmm.
I finally got all of The Buddy Reads in there and its an Amazing List, if anyone wants to take a second look before we start the actual 2025 thread. I had to do it twice which took me double the time, but I am excited for us. I also added Sally and put us at 3 for There are Rivers in the Sky.
My 12's are both buddy reads. There are like four or five of them for #12. There is a big one for the Engineer's Wife (one of mine) and I have a BR with Jen K for Her Majesty's Royal Coven. Also there is a Wintering (HayJay and JoyD) and We all Want Impossible Things (Sue)
Turns out one of my options for number 12 is LABRADOR- SIGNED ED WWW.HAR_HB and Labradors are from Canada so......I Also have The Belt of the Buried Gods which is Hugh Howey who did the Wool series that I very much enjoyed.
I have three Trim books that fit my Play Harder prompts, but I'm not sure which one I'll start with:Maus I: A Survivor's Tale: My Father Bleeds History
The Day of the Triffids by John Wyndham
Provenance by Ann Leckie

What works best for you?

Can we please move this thread into the folder for 2025 Challenges? I'd really appreciate it!
Oh, shoot. I messed that up. I had done all of the changes and had done them right and then when I shifted it to another page, it got lost before I could push edit. I had to do them all over again and I probably messed it up. Keep it at eight that’s where it probably is for me and I will figure it out.
Jason wrote: "The Legend of Baggar Vance for me. Sports important in it and author as I recall is a sports writer. I highly recommend it.
Linda C wrote: "My #12 is Truck: A Love Story by Michael Perry I love his humor and stories"LOVE Michael Perry!
Everyone - this thread is going to move into the 2025 activities folder. We got bumped up too and I like Anita's idea to catering to all the various parts of our community in the most thoughtful way. Within Days, this thread will pass into oblivion, turning into a link in the new 2025 Trim Challenge thread we will use all year. Anyone who will want to join us after the first of the year will be able to use the link to look at everyone's lists and create their own and add it. And where will the new 2025 Trim Challenge Thread be located? You guessed it~. In 2025 Activities and Challenges. YAY!

It does get pretty fantastical but the main topic is identity and gender. I'm trying to figure out when/ how to get book 2.
I might try to join the Wintering: The Power of Rest and Retreat in Difficult Times BR if I can get the book in good time.

The Day of the Triffids I read as a kid and still remember it.....guess it is one that sticks with the reader though I'm not sure why. Possibly because it was early in my scifi reading and contributed to me getting hooked on the genre.
Regarding Wintering: The Power of Rest and Retreat in Difficult Times I need a book for "mind, brain or neuroscience" for Play Harder. This book looks like it will fit. Add me to the buddy read, Amy. I had to get in line for it though, someone has it out until 1/9.
Jen K wrote: "Amy wrote: "My 12's are both buddy reads. There are like four or five of them for #12. I need to look for the the 2nd and get it on the TBR. A friend and fellow Feminerdy member went to the author's signing for her children's book and while talking to Juno after, she asked about the ending and Juno said 'do not assume anything is what you think it is at the end'. Really need to move on to book 2!
Anyway, I too will join dicussion if buddy read happens.
That happened to me last year, that I had read most of the books on my trim long before the number was called for various reasons. This frees me a little bit, because there’s plenty on my January list that I’m not even sure I’m gonna get to. I have another trim, buddy Red for the engineer’s wife.
Amy ... I hope that you are just going to move the thread and not create a new one. Theresa provided step-by-step instructions somewhere... though I'm not sure where. I know, because I read them.
It's is VERY easy to do ... on a computer. Not sure about on a phone.

Amy did move it! My instructions worked! I knew she could do it - and they also work on a phone because I've done it. You actually posted your comment at the new location!
But I had a back up plan - photos of each step texted - but I didn't think it would be needed. And it wasn't!
Every year I have a planning and organizational thread that runs through December, and then a new fresh thread for the new year - the Announcement and Community One. This way, if a person who is new wishes to join us, they can link to the old thread, but that everything we need for the year is there and its kind of the fresh and new start.
I'm starting my 2025 with a meaty one for trim: 11/22/63 by Stephen King, which is funny because one of his chunkier ones (Under the Dome) was my first book for 2024. Apparently January is my Stephen King time.

After a lackluster reading year, both of this sound like not to be missed reads for my 2025!
You got it!!! Hayley, we are back on Track you and I. We have something like at least seven buddy reads again.

My list = already posted is mostly done but still under construction. I've decided to add more options because my first half of 2025 professionally is shaping up to be very very demanding - good stuff! Just how that will affect my reading ... hard to say. Having flexibility that's not tied to a number could be the answer!
