I started this a couple of days ago & am about a third of the way through.After a couple of Wharton reads have been disappointing for me - this one looks to be close to her best. :)

Nice to hear it. I am planning to try it too, but probably nearer the end of the month.
Started last night not sure yet if I'm going to enjoy it or not.
Finished this afternoon - well written but such a dreadful main character in Undine.Would have loved to find out how her son got on in later life - how the mother son relationship turned out and how Undine was when she grew old.
I think this is my best read of the year - can't believe it took me so long to get to it.Undine is one of fiction's great ruthless women - right up there with Becky Sharp & Amber.

I commented in another group this morning that I thought this was her grittiest novel that I'd read to date.
In a different way, The House of Mirth was really sad & bleak.After reading Custom of the Country I wondered about how the Marvels & Mrs Spragg felt about (view spoiler)
