(BWF) The End by Lemony Snicket - 4 stars

In the final book of the “Series of Unfortunate Events” the Baudelaire children are shipwrecked during a fierce storm. Unfortunately the evil Count Olaf was also on board. They find themselves on a mysterious island where they are helmed by a man named “Ish” who never forces anyone to do anything but everyone takes his advice whether they agree or not. The islanders all wear white robes, eat the same bland diet every day and scavenge the shoreline for anything deposited by apparently numerous shipwrecks. Count Olaf immediately angers Ish and is kept out of the encampment. Olaf still has the diving helmet with the poisonous mushroom spores which he threatens to unleash on the island inhabitants. The fact that it will kill everyone, including himself and the Baudelaires, does not seem to concern him. Violet, Klaus and Sunny know they must find an antidote just in case the worst happens. What they find is shocking: a loving note from the past that just may save their lives.

I had hoped all along that things would end differently since there were several hints in the last few books that it just might. I was disappointed with that but not with the series itself. It was fun, so imaginative and fabulously done on audio by Time Curry.
