Theresa | 15646 comments Since I'd been reading/listening to these as I could get them from NYPL system, my reading was out of order. Finally got my hands on this one and learned who Aunt Josephine is and all about her house on stilts above Lake Lachrymose. Of course Count Olaf comes up with another dastardly plan, though this one escalates the level of evil he will go to gain control of the Baudelaires and their fortune. Aunt Josephine and all her fears is quite a character, as is her house. But best of all is Lake Lachrymose and all the sites around it - such great names and descriptions!

This one pulled me in very quickly. I felt like I could really see and feel the atmosphere in this one. I felt nervous for them all in that house, and especially in the lake.
