I started Nimona and it's so strange to read because I saw the movie and it's different, but the same. So, I feel like I've read it before, but every so often think, wait that's not right. lol I'm curious to see if some of the main points are the same later in the book.
I read Circe and I was a bit confused by how I felt about it. The writing was beautiful and first half had gripped me. But once she was shipped off, I felt nothing much was happening to the story. I also did not feel very concerned for Circe and her point of view felt very flat to me throughout. So a 3 star!
I finished Nimona. It was a fun read. Some things were the same as the movie, but some were different. It had the same overall concepts, so they didn't change it too radically. I really enjoyed it.
I read MollyThe book is a prequel to The Dressmaker which was made into a movie with Kate Winslet. There’s another book in the series I’d like to read as well. The Dressmaker's Secret
I enjoyed listening to the audiobook, and felt a strong sense of place throughout the book. The author was able to bring the setting of 1914 Melbourne to life - the everyday household tasks like lighting a fire for warmth and cooking, the rumble of rattling carts on stony streets, the workdays in the garment factory.
What really stands out with this book is the dark humour, particularly in relation to a range of odd bod characters.
