I haven't read Book 3 yet, but so far I'm really disappointed with this work.
My major gripe so far is with the logical inconsistencies in Book 2. It just makes no sense. Since the characters in Book 2 have the same names as the ones in Book 1, I was expecting a connection to be made at some point, like the father telling about his great-grandfather David Bingham who moved to Hawaii. But no. They are from a pure Hawaiian dynasty and we just have to accept their English last name.
Also, I wasn't convinced that a group of people dedicated to restoring the Hawaiian kingdom would simply ignore that the heir to the throne was among them. And it is obvious that Wika couldn't have written the letter that Kawika received. I'm all for surrealism, but here it felt out of place and lazy.
And the whole story seemed a bit pointless, going from David Bingham with Charles to his father's letter and never going back. It just kind of ended. There was not much that was interesting about it.
So... thoughts? What is the point of having characters with the same names if that plays no role in the story? Are you guys bothered by these points as much as I am?
