──────────────────────────     KAELA BLAINEEvocation & Math Teacher

LEARNING BRINGS LIGHT     ────────────────────────────────────

Asterath may be where Kaela Blaine was born, but Cogworks is her home. From the moment she entered the school at five years old and was wowed by the magical practice and size of the classrooms and breadth of subjects taught (although maybe that last one came later on), she knew that was where she wanted to spend the rest of her life. All kids start out wanting to be a teacher or a Council member or a gang leader, but Kaela's passion for teaching at Cogworks never faded even as she got older.

In school, Kaela noticed that she had a particular skill for evocation magic. The elements called to her, and she was able to bend them to her will with ease. Separately, she also found math to be the easiest of the non-magical subjects. Her teacher would give her bonus problems of a higher difficulty to hold her concentration when she finished assignments faster than the rest of her class, allowing her to progress in the subject at a rapid rate. The math and evocation teacher was an old woman, and she saw the potential that Kaela held in both subjects. Once Kaela was old enough to feel sure in her choice to be a teacher, the math and evocation teacher started to prime Kaela as her replacement once she graduated.

In the meantime, Kaela enjoyed her time as a student at Cogworks. She was a friend to the entire school, not caring in the slightest where someone was from or what their future would hold. She loved people and people loved her. Study sessions with friends, attending events in the cities, extracurriculars—she had it all. And then, she graduated and stepped into her true passion as a teacher.

Seventeen glorious years of teaching, and Kaela loves every single moment of it just as much as her first day on the job. Cogworks is where Kaela belongs, and she will continue teaching there until the day she dies... which might be coming sooner than she thinks. People have taken notice of her latent power, and they stare greedily at the magical essence she possesses. Maybe she shouldn't be as friendly as she is with the bartender at the Neon Cogs Saloon.

35 years old lesbian
evocation teaching
cheerful naive

A true child of Asterath, Kaela is all light and whimsy, wild magic through and through. She's no cyberpunk graffiti-ing criminal, but that makes her just the same as a vast majority of the populace of Asterath. Her magic is explosive and unruly, growing more powerful as she ages and masters her craft. She is bright and cheery, lighting up any room with the glow of Asterath itself. Kaela sees only the best in people, which makes her an excellent teacher, but it also blinds her to the cruelty of the world. Both naive and welcoming, Kaela would sit the Big Bad Wolf down at her dining room table and serve herself up as a meal if he asked politely.

The students of Cogworks universally love Kaela. Math is a notoriously hated subject, but because of the care that Kaela gives the subject and the respect that she shows her students, they enjoy attending her classes and put in the effort to understand the material. Her classes are fun and engaging, allowing for individuality and the freedom of expression in the art of evocation, focusing more on the intricacies of each element than the utility in combat.

People typically find Kaela to be easy to read, emotions plastered across her face and thoughts freely shared. The only thing they would not expect from her at a glance is who she has chosen as a partner. Jinni, the cold and heartless Abjuration and English teacher, and the love of Kaela's life. The two met while studying at Cogworks and became fast friends. Jinni was so different back then, Kaela would tell people. She had the brightest laugh of anyone I had ever met. She still does, though she wouldn't want me telling you that. The two fell out of contact after graduation when Kaela stayed at the school to fulfill her dreams of becoming a teacher while Jinni left to pursue her own goals. They were only able to reconnect in recent years when Jinni joined the staff of Cogworks as a teacher.

Never one to shy away from expressing her feelings, it had taken Kaela a long time to understand why she had never told Jinni that she was in love with her in high school. Expectations, knowing that their paths would diverge after graduation, fear of change. As she aged and matured, Kaela found herself regretting not saying anything more and more. Ten, fifteen years had passed since she had last seen Jinni, and her feelings for her friend had only grown. Jinni was the love of her life, the only person that she would ever be able to see that way it seemed, and she had lost her chance to share the depth of her emotion. And then there Jinni was, sitting in the Foggy Froggy Lounge as if she hadn't ever left. Despite how different Jinni was, the way Kaela felt hadn't changed. She would always love Jinni, no matter who she had become. It hadn't taken long for her to share her feelings, and the rest is history.

Andrew is a sweet guy. He is quiet and introverted, and has a lack of social skills. He is better when talking about something he likes, but it isn't for lack of trying. He is pretty shy, at least when he first meets people, and prefers painting and drawing to social interaction, as he's quite creative. While he wants friends, he just...isn't the best when it comes to socialization and prefers one on one company with people versus large group settings. He’s a very honest person and believes in telling others the truth unless the circumstances absolutely require a lie or a cover up, and thus he was a terrible gang member.

That, and he has never agreed with Serpentine, where he was born, seeing as how vicious and awful they can be. He really is gentle and dislikes violence, and is traumatized and feels guilt for his father and everything he did as well. Andrew is very caring; when he truly loves someone, he will go out of his way to do little things proving his care and adoration for that person, and at times he can be a little chivalrous. He cares a lot about the students he teaches and wants them to do their best, but he puts professional boundaries into place.

Andrew also is a family man; he wants nothing more than to marry someone he loves, and to have the home life he was denied growing up. He wants to marry and stay home when he can, baking for his kids and partner, and painting, as well as teaching other young artists and students with an interest in illusion magic to follow their dreams at Cogsworks. As a romantic, Andrew also doesn't mind reading rom-coms. Despite his love for peaceful solutions and hatred of violence--and a terrible fear of heights--Andrew sometimes understands force is needed, but he wants nothing to do with it himself. As an Asterath citizen, he doesn't know of the shadowfog danger as well as some, but he worries it will harm some of his students.

He's a terrible fighter and terrible shot. Andrew does hold a lot of guilt in him, and can be found volunteering to help people to try and make amends for himself and his father's actions. He also holds a hidden streak of anger not even he understood or knew existed until he began to come more fully into himself and love other people, but when someone he loves is in trouble, Andrew can become feisty, angry, unafraid to stand up to get what he needs to help them. Other than this, though, he sometimes has to fight a part of him that often shies away from conflict; he can be a bit of a coward.

He is very passionate about what he loves--art and baking and illusions, mostly--and is a skilled, gentle teacher at Cogsworks. He cares about his students and wants them to succeed.

Andrew is six feet tall and sports thick brown hair and dark brown eyes. He has a sharper jawline, and is thinner and not muscular. He has a birthmark on the top of his right foot, and a few scars on his face and arms from some fights he has gotten into. He has pale skin and weights about 145 lbs

Andrew was born the only son of a skilled member of Serpentine, one of their best assassins, and his girlfriend, who had been a normal citizen he had loved. But Andrew's mother died in childbirth, leaving his father genuinely heartbroken, which bode well for nobody, Andrew most of all, because as he grew up, he reminded his father of his mother, and his father was a man prone to anger, cowardice, feats of strength, and a horrible, obsessive love for those he attached himself to.

As a result, Andrew was dumped into his uncle's care. He was also not a great man, but raised Andrew to be as tough as him and his father, teaching him assassination and firearm use early. His uncle took care of more backend things for the gang, and stayed in a different part of the Club, while his father was out and about a lot. Thus, Andrew rarely saw him, but when he did, he was frightened of him. If Andrew's father was in a mood, everyone around him paid the price, while other times his father could barely look at him given Andrew had his mother's hair, her more gentle demeanor.

That demeanor proved an issue. Serpentine didn't like soft-hearted people, and Andrew never felt comfortable in a gang of druggies and assassins. He was awful at learning how to handle weapons, and would hide away when he could and draw or paint, which just got him into more trouble.

When he was a child and the time came for him to enroll in Cogsworks, they let him go. They didn't want to, because they worried Andrew would grow more into that soft personality, but neither knew how to educate a child, so they sent him in under the care of an older Serpentine student. Besides, then his father would not see him as much. At the Academy, Andrew both thrived and became a worse person. He found an affinity for music, art, baking, and illusion magic, and he excelled in those classes.

He also found himself more under the influence of the group of Serpentine kids who were there, who had learned about Andrew being a more soft-hearted, shy, quiet kid and wanted to change him. They began to teach him more ways, having him work on spying tactics, and made him watch as they assassinated other gang member students after school. Still, Andrew preferred the Academy to home, because he hated the training and jobs after school. He was awful at being Serpentine, and Andrew was always crying and wanting to be left alone.

His father, though, also never let anyone in Serpentine harm him. While he yelled at him and occasionally hit him depending on his swinging moods, he never permitted the same for anyone else. Eventually, his father became so paranoid at losing Andrew that, the moment Andrew would get home from school, his father would lock him up in a room so he would never be brought on any Serpentine business. Andrew was thirteen, terrified of killing. But he would not have a choice in the matter soon enough. He hated being locked up, but he doodled to pass the time, worked on his magic. Healed from beatings when he failed his fighting assignments by Serpentine. It was better than being an assassin or dealing drugs that hurt people.

So a few members of Serpentine one night poisoned and killed his father. Andrew was woken up to people dragging him into vicious, brutal training, and his uncle didn't seem to care, and was relieved to finally raise Andrew in a proper Serpentine way without limitations. The next few years of Andrew's life was miserable, and he was sent on assassination, arson, and drug-dealing assignments. He lived in constant fear of his life if he didn't do what was asked, but his performance at Cogsworks suffered.

When he was sixteen, his illusion professor sat him down and asked what was going on. Andrew ran from the room, scared of dying by Serpentine. But he was shaken, crying, wanted to escape, feeling like he was losing himself to murder and drug dealing. Andrew was at an utter loss, and he was hardly doing what he loved anymore. Close to failing out of Cogsworks at seventeen, Andrew was anxious, depressed, and felt no hope anymore. But after one more talk with his professor, he gained courage to use his magic, use what he knew, and escape from Serpentine.

So, finding resolve and hope for the first time in years, Andrew used his illusion skills to be someone else, to commit his final murder: his uncle, and to escape Serpentine. He faked his death and moved to a completely different end of Asterath under a false name and appearance, picked up a job as a baker, and worked on his art and magic. His grades improved, but Andrew still was working on becoming someone else--himself--on shedding the horrible person Serpentine had made him.

He began to volunteer at local shelters and soup kitchens, anything to assuage the guilt of his past actions and those of his father and uncle. Serpentine left him alone at Cogsworks because Andrew faked his own death after his uncle's, and used his illusions to hide his presence when he was at Cogsworks, finishing classes under the guise of a different student. When he graduated, Andrew continued to work on his magic privately for a bit, and became a professional artist, trading artwork for valuable objects he could use to get wealthier, home in a safer area.

But he was lonely, and Andrew tried dating for a bit, but was never comfortable with who he was because his uncle and father had never spoken much about partnership, so Andrew never knew how to go about all that. He was shy, scared of making problems, insecure, and didn't want to hurt anyone he dated, so his relationships never ended well and he got dumped a lot. He desperately wants someone, though, and a family, but is also afraid one day Serpentine will come for him.

They did once, a few years after Andrew graduated, and they exploded his first house, thinking they killed him with it, after someone recognized him at a shop. Andrew just managed to escape, though he lost the hearing in his right ear. He had been about twenty-three. This time, Serpentine thought he was dead for good, and after spending a long time recovering, Andrew decided he wanted something new. So, upon learning the illusion teacher had quit, Andrew filed an application to become the replacement. He was interviewed and accepted, and no more attacks had happened. Still, to this day, he has been wary, and had tried to find out more of who he is. He genuinely loves teaching. He is scared of any kids who come from the Serpentine gang, but hopes he was just forgotten about as a whole. He's been teaching for about four years now, and is sharing his art and magic with the kids. He still paints and bakes on the side, too.

Mary Elle Fanning

Melody stands at around five foot four inches. She has very pale skin and natural blonde hair. Her eyes are a green-grey color. Melody wears only dresses and fancier accessories (bows, hair clips, purses, gold/silver jewelry, etc). Underneath all of the fancy dresses, Melody still has scars from her cousin. There is permanent discoloration from bruising on her back along with healed scars on her wrists and the inside of her arms which she hides.

Personality

Melody is a very obedient girl. If you ask her to do something, she will do it. She is also quite respectful and respectable. She is a very intelligent girl, having loved/loves learning. She is a bit of a wishful thinker, and doesn't often pursue her goals without being pushed by a friend. She is also a very shy girl, not one to introduce herself to a stranger.

Melody loves music, just like her name suggests. She is a skilled flute, piano, and opera singer. She enjoys to learn violin as well. While she doesn't write music, she has a grand library of sheet music for all of her instruments from years of practicing. Melody loves to eat magnos but she despises pineapples. She also loves cuddles and animals, especially birds. She enjoys learning, yep a nerd, and she loves being warm and warm weather. Along with that, she loves thick fuzzy blankets. Melody doesn't like movies, and she hates not succeeding and struggling (annoys her very much).

Melody suffers from Thanatophobia (fear of death and the dying process). She also has Entomophobia (fear of insects) and Arachnophobia (fear of spiders).

Melody is a very honest girl, as long as the truth is not going to send her to someplace terrible, she will not lie. She is also very patient, believing the best in every situation and everyone, and being quite understanding. She however is overly critical of herself, and she has a massive lack of confidence meaning she never does anything right in her eyes and she never pushes herself to do anything new.

Melody is bisexual, with no preference. She finds attractive in both men and woman. To her, the most attractive thing is height and brown hair, everything else doesn't really matter. But she'll give you bonus points if he has a muscular build or she has lots of curves.

History

The Seavey name is an ancient name. Passed down for generations in Voxthain, some rumor the founders of the noble name are even people who began the city of Voxthain. To the nobles and the people, Seavey's are some of the most admired people. The name is known for it's hiring and hospitality for those who work inside the palace (they hire any age above 10yo) amongst the people, giving them a dependable income along with a bed to sleep in and food to eat. To the nobles, they are one of the purest bloodlines out there, having hosted annual balls to find matches for the sons with only noblewomen. However, when a son takes a bride, she must take his name before being wed and leave her family behind. Similarly, to keep good alliances with the other nobles, the Seavey line always offers their daughters up for arranged marriages, making them from as early as the age of 15, attend balls for men and be married out of the Seavey name into a new one.

Melody is the youngest of four kids. She was born to the Seavey family as the younger twin of her parents last set. Around the same time, her aunt and uncle gave birth to her cousin (now disowned).

Growing up, Melody took a great liking to music. She adored her mother's singing and piano skills, and aspired to be like the woman. She would sit on her mother's lap while she played piano, and try her best to sing along to her mother. She began singing as soon as she could speak, and never left her mother's side creating an unbreakable bond. Her older brothers also created strong bonds with her, and although they had separate interests they always were kind enough to make time for the four to spend together. On the other hand, her father put less of an effort in to taking care of Melody and only criticized her when she did something wrong.

From the ages of 7 to 13, Melody began to experience the unthinkable: bullying. Being a daughter of the direct bloodline of the Seavey family, Melody had a purpose in life whether she liked it or not. However, her cousin didn't like it, the girl was jealous. It began when her toys began to go missing, music would be ripped and destroyed, and the girl would borrow things and never return them. But quickly that wasn't enough and it evolved into nasty notes and more detrimental damage to her property.

The longer things went on, the more people noticed the subtle details, including the way that Melody began to hide her music. Instead of showing off her playing, she would hide in her room to play. Instead of being chatty and happy, she became shyer and less talkative.

When things took a whole new turn at 12 years old her brothers noticed. Melody's hair would be pulled out in small chunks, she had small bruises across her body, and she had no self-confidence like she had as a kid. At her 13th birthday ball, her cousin tried to ruin her dress, cake, and steal her gifts, and her brothers caught on. They told her mother who immediately comforted her and tried to pull out the truth.

Days later after being interrogated, Melody watched as her mother informed her father who never showed her any love personally. To her surprise, the man did act to protect her. A week later, Melody watched as an announcement was made that her cousin was no longer a member of the Seavey noble family and she was stripped of her last name.

After that, she began to recover and her father sent her to Cogsworth academy to give her a new start. Things started slowly for her as she adjusted to her new life and safety.

Things went well at first, Melody felt important seen. She had everything she wanted. Until new students began showing up, common people. The ones that lived in shacks rather then manors, and weren't invited to balls. Upon their arrival, Melody noticed the attention they got and the lack she received. As a result, she began to ruthlessly pick apart all of the new students, finding their insecurities and secrets and going as far as she could to make it so she had the attention she deserved.

The only release she had a was music. Calming melodies and harmonies she could sing and play in lonely areas away from people. She was very set on never being heard by anyone, not even her mother anymore, after the harsh words her cousin had used to describe her playing and everything about her.

Her fifteenth birthday gala came and went. Melodies life changed as she became more responsible and realized that her life could be turned around any second. She could be pulled from school and be married away from her mother and brothers against her will. She began rebuilding her relationships, growing closer to them and confiding more in them as she became aware.

Melody is about to graduate Cogsworth, marking the finishing of her education. She still has scars, mentally and physically, from the beatings that her cousin gave her. While she is learning to play in front of people again, Melody is still afraid of preforming.

Who says you have to either be a bubbly ray of sunshine or a badass? Athena never saw a reason to choose. She likes to stay optimistic, loves working with children, and is a bit of a hopeless romantic, but she’s also determined, perhaps a little stubborn, and 100% ready to fight for what she believes in. Her hobbies range from playing piano and violin, to card games, to archery and fencing. Due to some of her life choices, her relationship with the rest of the Delacroix family is strained, but she does her best to try to stay in touch. Family is important to her, but no one is allowed to tell her what to do, or pressure her into a life she isn’t happy with.

Athena is 5'7", with brown eyes and long, wavey brown hair, that she often experiments with. She currently has it styled with layers and bangs.

She has never been able to pick one style of clothing. One day, she might be wearing ripped jeans, the next a flowy dress.

Athena was born into the Delacroix family, one of the oldest and most prosperous of Voxthain’s noble houses. However, she was never really what the family wanted or expected. She didn’t buy into the ideas of superiority most of the family did, nor was she the most “proper” of ladies. Sure, she knew all the correct manners - not that she always used them - and could ballroom dance and make small talk if she wanted. She actually enjoyed her music lessons - violin, piano, and voice. And all things considered, no one really minded her love of archery and swordplay. But she found noble society strict and stuffy. And what really bothered her was the classicism.

Athena simply couldn’t understand why her family thought they were so much better than other people. She was friends with people of all different backgrounds at Cogworks, although her parents didn’t approve. Her uncle, the head of the house, even took it upon himself to lecture her about her choice of friends, but Athena was fed up with it all.

As a teenager, Athena and several of her friends formed a band, Athena on piano and lead vocals. The paretns of one of the kids owned a bar in Asterath, where they started playing. As time went on, they also began playing at other venues, in both Asterath and Voxthain. Athena loved her band, but knew her family wouldn’t approve, and kept it a secret. However, one night, her parents confronted her. She never knew how they found out about the band, but they were just as upset as she had feared they would be.

Still, Athena wasn’t deterred. She kept the band running, even after she graduated Cogworks, and got a job as a teacher’s assistant. Working under the illusion and arts teacher, she focuses on teaching music, while the other teacher focuses more on painting and drawing.

After Athena’s younger cousin, Elliot, was disowned, she stayed in touch with him, and is the only member of the family to even know about his position in the milltia, or even where he is.

Athena sometimes worries that she may be on the verge of being disowned, herself. She’s on rather cold terms with most of the family, as they don’t approve of so many of her decisions. And now, after falling for one of her band-mates - a man she knows the Delacroixs would never approve of - she wonders what would happen if they were to ever announce their relationship. She wants to mend things with her family, but not at the cost of her freedom.

She is also a creative person and loves expressing herself through drawing and painting. Celeste loves making others happy, whether it be through gifts or just simply giving them a wave and smile. She is funny and goofy and not afraid to show it. She is a loyal friend, someone you can depend on if you're feeling down.

History: Celeste was born and raised in Asterath, the middle of three children. Growing up, her parents didn't have the best relationship. She would constantly hear them arguing, whether it would be something major or minor it didn't matter. Hearing them yell at each other made Celeste sad to the point that she would cry every time. She loved her parents dearly, but she hated that they were fighting all the time. As a result, her parents divorced when she was seven years old.

Celeste took her parents' divorce hard. She felt like her world and family were torn apart, and there was nothing she could do about it. She felt powerless. Celeste left her home and moved into a new house with her mother and siblings shortly after, leaving her father by himself. It felt weird for her to be in a new house, almost foreign to her. She had mixed emotions about it; while the change of scenery was nice, she missed her old house and wanted everything back to normal. But she knew that wouldn't happen.

Celeste attended Cogworks while that was going on. She struggled during this time, having difficulties focusing on her schoolwork. All she could think about was having a hard time adjusting to her new life and her parents. This went on for a few weeks, and some of the teachers notices and were worried about Celeste. They knew that she was a bright and capable student, but they didn't know what was going on. When asked, Celeste hesitated at first, not wanting to bring her personal life into it. But when she eventually brought up her parents and their divorce, they told her while it would be difficult at first, things will get better. Her conversations with her teachers made her feel better, and everything clicked for Celeste.

This was when she decided to be more positive and optimistic. While she knew there were bad moments in life, she began to focus on everything good. She has visited her father a few times afterwards, but she doesn't get to see him often, and they don't have much of a relationship anymore. Celeste still attends Cogworks to this day, and loves it.

megan - also known by her stage name mei - is a fearless, sexy, funny bundle of joy, and an absolute born performer. she grew up dancing, and has never stopped since. her body flows with music and when dancing, she is truly herself. kind and loving, megan cares for all those around her, but to fully open up to them she still finds difficult. she has few true friends (and she loves teasing them), but she would die for those friends if need be. when megan loves, she loves so deeply no one can pry her away from that love - she is one of the most stubborn, determined and headstrong people in asterath. megan’s forte was never in her wit, but her ability to shine in any kind of spotlight - even when there isn’t one. her aura and star quality makes her a valuable asset to the band, and she knows it. the way she dresses is to make statements. nothing about her is left to chance, and while she seems wild and just genuinely fearless on the outside, inside she is insecure and ever-doubtful of herself, though this has gotten a lot better in recent years. if megan ever needed to make a new year’s resolution, it would be ‘believe in yourself’.

megan’s parents, camila and jaime avanzini, were traders and dealers in asterath long before megan came along. they were the masters of the weapons ring and ran a burlesque club where they did secret deals with club serpentine members and traded with them all they needed. before, having children was never a thought that ever crossed the avanzinis’ minds, until camila avanzini was getting old, and truly wanted to start a family. therefore megan came along when she was forty, hollering at the top of her lungs to the skies and the gods above from birth.

as soon as megan was born, the avanzinis’ lives changed dramatically. they cut off official ties to club serpentine - having served them for many years - and changed their burlesque club to a normal bar, as megan wasn’t old enough to be wondering around a burlesque club by herself at night with a bunch of drunkards. of course, they still did deals behind the counter of the bar, but the bar wasn’t officially a club serpentine hotspot. the avanzinis spent a lot of time with their daughter and megan grew up happy and in a loving family, though there was a constant shadow surrounding her. megan was lonely. she had always wanted a sibling but whilst her mother tried, she was too old, and megan also knew that her parents had always secretly wanted a son.

she developed a passion for dancing when she five, and stuck with it, growing up dancing. if there’s one thing about megan, it’s if she has set her mind on something, she sticks with it until the very end. since she was young, she competed at multiple dance tournaments and competitions - winning the majority of them. ballet, contemporary, pop (kpop *cough cough*), tap… name any type of dance and megan can do it - even figure skating! she enjoyed any type of performing art, though dance was her favourite, and she was a born performer and actress. her acts fooled everyone - from strangers to her parents! megan also enjoyed singing and playing the drums, and performed at the bar in both dance and music from a young age - sometimes combining both together! kpop :)

when she joined cogworks, megan developed a keen interest for enchantment, and honed in on learning that type of magic particularly, and was very successful. she joined all sorts of clubs - mostly performing arts and dance related - when she was young, and soon practically everyone in the school knew her as the dance prodigy. due to her natural aura and charisma, she was very popular at school, and megan often regarded it as her second home. however, due to her popularity, megan began to doubt those around her and if they were truly sincere, and whether or not she was truly as amazing as everyone thought she was, or if they were all mocking and making fun of her. self-doubt began gnawing at her, but outside she was just as flawless as always, using dance as a way to dispel all that self-doubt and anger and uncertainty.

when megan was ten and seeking a private place to practise her new routine for a new dance competition, she came across raidan - an orphan, living in forgotten places of the school, with no one and absolutely nothing. megan took pity on him, and told her parents about him, and they agreed to let him stay with them at the bar until he found better accommodation. and so megan returned the next day, an offer of a temporary home with her.

over time, it became obvious that raidan wasn’t going to leave. he fit into their family like a missing piece in a jigsaw puzzle, and her parents finally had the son they had always wanted - and megan the sibling she had always dreamed of. an older brother to protect her, share secrets with, play with, annoy… finding him and taking him in might have been one of the best things megan avanzini ever did with her life.

a few years later, raidan and his friends were forming a band, and megan wanted. in. she tagged along and annoyed the band members and raidan until they let her officially join, and she served as drummer and sub-vocalist. as the baby of the group, she was loved by all and was what kept the band together when the elders would argue amongst each other. their first ever performance was at her parents’ bar, and it was a massive success, which led them to perform at multiple places throughout the sister cities.

when they had gained some fame, megan finally convinced athena and the others to let her choreograph and perform some dances for some of their songs that were suitable for dancing - and the addition of her dances massively boosted their popularity - or at least megan likes to think they did. after graduating, she spent a couple of years fully dedicated to the band and helping her parents out in their bar before applying to be a teacher’s assistant at her second home - cogworks. luckily for megan, she got the role of enchantment and astronomy teacher’s assistant, her dream job, and has worked hard to be worthy of it.

at twenty four, she is living the life of her dreams. performing and dancing her heart out for a living, and also having the job of her dreams: lucky in two words is megan avanzini.

─────────────────────    MARIANNE DELACROIXDelacroix Distant Cousin

A QUIET FLOWER     ─────────────────────────────────────────

Anxious and shy, Mari isn't very good with people. She tends to hide behind her trusted people when out in public, letting them take the lead in any conversation. The thought of talking to strangers makes fear roil in Mari's stomach, and when she does have too make conversation, her voice is soft and mousey. When left alone around her twin, Tris and her close friend, Ranami, Mari blooms into an entirely different person. She speaks up, cracking jokes and showering her loved ones in compliments. Even with them, she isn't the biggest presence in the room, but she contributes all the same.

Too gentle for her own good, Mari can be a bit of a pushover. She doesn't speak up for herself, passively letting things happen even if it goes against her wishes. Mari is often cut in lines or left to do the brunt of group projects. She hates how much she lets things happen to her, but she doesn't know how to be loud and proud like Tris. Mari has endless love and respect for her twin and how much they are so unashamedly theirself, wishing she could just be a little more like them.

School comes easily to Mari. She knows the answer to every question posed in class but never has the guts to raise her hand and answer. She studies much more than she needs to, worried for the day when school won't be her one proud skill. She favors math over writing, but she isn't quite sure if she actually likes any one field of study over the other. All of her friends and classmates are starting to figure out who they are and who they want to be, but Mari is stuck, unsure of herself and her interests. Sure, she's studious, but is that because she likes to learn or simply because she's good at it?

Academics are the only thing Mari has going for her. She doesn't have a single athletic bone in her body and would melt into a puddle of sweat and tears before performing any music or acting on a stage. She is neat and organized, keeping her room and workspace tidy without a speck of dust to be seen. More than anything, Mari yearns to know who she is and where she fits into this world.

15 y.o. sapphic ace
illusion noble
shy studious

Even though she was born minutes before Tris, Marianne Delacroix has always felt like the younger twin, always lagging behind her braver and bolder sibling. She learned from a young age that she would never belong with the main Delacroix family, too gentle and kind for their politics and might. During one visit early in her childhood, her Aunt Esmeralda took her aside and told her that if she did not get herself together and make herself known, she would never be worthy of the Delacroix name. All of her cousins were so much older and more sure of themselves, scaring her even farther away. Ever since, Mari has dreaded visiting the main estate, avoiding it as much as possible.

The galas held for the nobility were even worse, forcing her into frilly dresses that made her feel ill at ease in her skin, parading her around to be gawked at by nobles she didn't feel like she belonged with. Tris hated the galas more vehemently than even Mari, the twins standing together against the unavoidable revelry. Even if Mari didn't feel comfortable enough to speak out against them, she could always stand behind Tris when they did.

Entering Cogworks was the start of a better time in Mari's life. She was introduced to Ranami and the Lucke family, people she fit in with better than her own extended family. In school, she was able to blossom in ways she never could with the nobility. She showed her worth through her test scores, even going so far as to demand to do Tris' incomplete homework. She didn't have the bravery to put herself out there socially, but she had her group of friends, and her name was always at the top of her class.

As she grew and aged, Mari found that she had a knack for illusion magic. Making herself unseen and unheard was the first thing she learned, more of a defensive measure triggered by her anxiety than anything intentional, but she has more recently been working with the illusion teacher on bigger spells. It's slow going, but she has started to have the strength to spread silence away from her body, filling a room with empty nothing. Her silence is magic in itself, sucking away not only sound but the ability for others to cast magic themselves.

Mari loves her teachers, and after years, she has been able to open up more to Mr. Westlake, the illusion teacher, and Ms. Blaine, the math teacher. They have both been kind and nurturing presences in her life, giving her the space to open up more, figure out who she is. Along with them, Mari would be lost without her twin and parents there to guide and support her. Mari has so much love for her immediate family, and she tried to tell them just how much she loves them.

──────────────────────────────────────────      YET TO BLOOM

Appearance:

Face Claim: Jang Wonyoung
Description: Deondra has pale skin, brown eyes, and long, wavy dark brown hair that goes past her shoulders. She likes styling her hair in ponytails and pigtails, adding bows to complete the look. She stands at 5'4". She likes to wear dresses, skirts, sandals, and flats, preferring lighter and pastel colors. She does dress more casually when she feels like it, though.

_______________

Personality: Deondra, affectionately called "Deedee" by her friends and family, is a bubbly, energetic bundle of happiness. She is very extroverted and loves socializing with other people and making new friends. She is incredibly kind, caring, and friendly, even to those who may not be kind to her back, which has led to others thinking that she's too nice for her own good - which she admits is true - but better to be kind than rude and hateful, right? Deedee loves being goofy and telling jokes, giving presents, anything to cheer others up and make them happy. She is a total girly girl, loving anything associated with a stereotypical one; dresses, makeup, you name it. She is quite intelligent, being able to memorize things with relative ease. Despite her energetic side, Deedee is a mellow, relaxed, and carefree spirit, going with the flow, handling anything that life throws at her or going where the wind takes her.

_______________

History: Deondra was born to an Asterathi councilor and a Voxthain journalist, four years after her older sister Lacey. She didn't remember her parents much, although she has vague flashes of them once in a while. What she knew about her parents was from Lacey, telling her various stories about them while she was growing up.

She was very young when her parents died, being only four years old at the time. She learned that they were killed by Club Serpentine from her sister, which devastated her. She and Lacey were raised by their grandparents after this, which resulted in Deedee having a close bond with them. She learned to cook and sew from her grandmother, which she enjoyed, as it was another way for her get closer to her.

Ater their parents' deaths, Deedee noticed that her sister began changing. Lacey became more quiet and reserved, and wasn't as bubbly as she usually was. She also noticed that Lacey had developed a bit of a mean streak and would sometimes get angry if someone provoked her the wrong way. This worried Deedee, as she knew that this wasn't like her sister. When she asked Lacey one day that if she was okay, she told her in a kind, gentle voice that she was alright and didn't need to worry about her. Deedee knew that she was lying, but she didn't ask again, as she didn't want to upset her sister.

By the time Dedee was twelve, Lacey started to make frequent trips to Asterath. When she and her grandparents asked where she was going while there, Lacey simply stated that she would visit other family members who lived in the underground city. They believed her and didn't question her further. While Lacey did partially tell the truth, she didn't reveal the full truth to them; that she was also a member of the fighting ring.

When Lacey graduated from Cogworks, she moved to Asterath, with Dedee and their grandparents assuming that she went to live with family there, unaware that Lacey joined the Arachniads as a double agent and went undercover as a Snake. Deedee was always excited when her sister came to visit her and their grandparents, enjoying chatting and spending time with her.

One day, her grandfather fell ill, and his health began to worsen over time. Lacey came to visit after hearing the news from their grandmother, spending as much time with him as she could. Their grandfather passed away shortly after, and Deedee took it hard, as she was very close to him. With Lacey not being around much, she and her grandmother began to lean on each other for support since it was only them together now.

Deedee is currently attending Cogworks, where she is a student in Homeroom Amethyst. She had befriended some of the students, and is grateful for having them in her life, finding another support system in them. Lacey still visits once in a while, and Deedee and her grandmother are still blissfully unaware of her activities in the gangs and fighting ring.

Appearance:

Face Claim: Kong Xueer
Description: Xinyi has lightly tanned skin, brown eyes, and long, dark brown/black hair. She usually styles her hair a simple ponytail or bun, though she likes to keep her hair down for the most part. She is average height, standing at 5'6". She dresses causally for the most part, wearing t-shirts, jeans, leather jackets, and tennis shoes. However, she does wear the occasional dress, skirt, and high heel when she wants to.

_______________

Personality: On the surface, Xinyi is a calm, cool, and collected person. She can come across as cold and intimidating, especially to those she doesn't know. She is introverted and doesn't open up to others that much. However, she's more open, social, and comfortable around those she knows and is more friendly and kind to them. Due to her past, she somewhat has trust issues, though she doesn't lack total trust in others. Once you prove yourself, you will earn Xinyi's trust and her friendship. She is loyal and very protective of the ones that she loves and cares for and is willing to stand up for them if she feels the need to. Xinyi opposes violence and isn't much of a confrontational person, but she is not afraid to resort to it, only if it's absolutely necessary, especially when it comes to her job as a sword for the Blacklights. Due to her job, Xinyi has taught herself to be resourceful and skilled with fighting, weaponry, and magic. She is intelligent, having an affinity for science and being able to learn things quickly. Once you get to know her better, Xinyi is a kind and caring person who wants to protect Asterath from the gangs.

_______________

History: Xinyi was born the only child to Liu Haoyu and Wang Jiali, being fortunate enough to live in the wealthier side of Asterath. Her parents had a rocky marriage, resulting in her mother to sometimes drink as a way to handle the stress that she faced. Because of this, Xinyi had a strained relationship with her mother and disapproved of her drinking. Occasionally, Jiali drank to the point of being drunk, leading to even bigger fights with Haoyu. Xinyi did not like this side of her mother. A drunk Jiali was an angry Jiali, and she was terrified of her mother when this happened and would hide in her room until Jiali was sober again. When she was sober, her mother was a completely different person. She was a kind, caring, and devoted mother, always making sure that Xinyi was safe. Not when she was drunk.

Cogworks was an escape for Xinyi. She was always glad to be at school so she could avoid witnessing the fights between her parents and her mother’s drunk behavior. When she would return home, it was as if nothing had happened and everything was normal. She knew that it wasn’t normal, though. Her parents were just trying to protect her so that she could have as normal of a childhood as she could. Not that she did anyway. She admired her father growing up, forming a close bond with him and was amazed at how he handled her mother’s behavior. When she asked him how one day, he simply smiled and said, “it’s because I love her.” Xinyi would never forget what he told her that day.

Writing was another way for Xinyi to cope with her family life. She loved to create stories, writing versions of herself and the rest of her family in the way that she wanted them to be; normal and happy. When not studying for school or had free time, she would toil away in her notebook, writing stories at any chance she got. The stories that she came up with made her happy and they made her wish that she could be in them so she wouldn’t have to deal with her mother. But they made being able to handle her more bearable thanks to her imagination. She never shared these stories to her or her father, as they knew that it would upset them if they knew that she wasn’t happy.

One day, when Xinyi was ten years old, something unexpected happened. Jiali revealed to her and her father that she was pregnant. With twins. Xinyi was ecstatic, having always wanted brothers and sisters. But one look at her father’s face said it all; he was furious, knowing that he wasn’t the father. He immediately demanded an explanation. Jiali revealed that she had been at the Neon Cogs Saloon a month prior and met a man named David, whom she later found out was a member of Club Serpentine. They both got drunk and had an affair, resulting in her accidental pregnancy. Xinyi was shocked and heartbroken. She couldn’t believe that her mother would betray her and her father like that. After everything they’ve been through. Even if she was drunk, that wasn’t an excuse in her mind. She looked into her mother’s eyes, noticing tears stream down her face, knowing that she felt horrible and guilty about the situation. She glanced over at her father again, who remained silent as her mother spoke. Amazingly though, he had relaxed his anger. After a few moments, he finally spoke, saying that while he felt hurt, he forgave her, knowing that it was an accident. Jiali was relieved, explaining that she still loved him despite everything and promised to stop drinking. Though her relationship with her mother has improved since, she still feels hurt by her mother’s actions to this day.

Xinyi was eleven when the twins were born, a brother, Levi, and a sister, Julie. With their father not around, she and her father raised them, with Haoyu acting as their real father. Despite the circumstances of their birth, Xinyi grew to love her new siblings and helped her parents care for them. Xinyi adored her siblings’ mischief and playfulness. They made her laugh with their harmless pranks, and even her parents, who tended to be strict, found humor in the twins’ antics. In a way, their birth was a blessing for them; they brought their family together and were closer than they ever have been.

On Levi and Julie's sixth birthday, the Lius suddenly got a knock on the door. Jiali opened the door and was shocked by who it was; the twins’ father, David, who had somehow tracked down where the family lived and remembered Jiali, revealing her pregnancy to him at the time as well. He demanded that the twins be taken under his care so that he could raise them to be full-fledged Snakes. Her mother refused, disgusted at him for wanting to take them away when he wasn’t even around in their lives. He countered back, saying that it should be their decision. Xinyi, her father, and the twins overheard their conversation and went to intervene. Though heartbroken that Haoyu wasn’t their birth father, the twins refused to leave, explaining that Haoyu was more of a father to them then David would ever be and actually cared for them, unlike him. David, though clearly angry, respected their decision and promptly left, stating that the offer was still there should they decide to join the Snakes later on.

Xinyi graduated from Cogworks a year after that incident. She worked at a newspaper company for a few years, remembering her passion for writing and creating stories. When she was twenty years old, Xinyi decided to make one of the stories that she wrote from her childhood to life. By working with one of her coworkers, she was able to edit and publish the story under a pseudonym, Jennifer Zhang. This was one of proudest moments of her life, being able to fulfill her dream of publishing a story.

One day, when Xinyi was returning home from work, she ran into a familiar face; it was David, whom she remembered when he wanted to raise Levi and Julie as Snakes from a few years prior. And he remembered her too. After talking with him briefly, he explained that since she left home, he came by a few more times to convince the twins to join the Snakes and they still refused. But the last time, he revealed to her that he threatened to kill her unless Julie and Levi joined. Not wanting to lose their sister, they reluctantly agreed. This infuriated Xinyi and she left, heartbroken that, in her eyes, she lost her siblings to the Snakes.

A few days later, someone approached Xinyi on her way to work. They revealed that they overheard her conversation with David and offered her a spot in the Blacklights as a sword for Club Serpentine. She agreed, wanting to bring justice to the man and gang that tore her family apart.

Shortly after this, she left the newspaper company that she worked for and applied to be a teacher's assistant at Cogworks and was accepted, assigned with the Homeroom Emerald teacher. She loved working with the teacher and students, and the added bonus that Julie and Levi were in Homeroom Emerald as well. To this day, Xinyi still works at Cogworks, keeping an eye on the twins so that they don't cause chaos and end up being on her list of Snakes to kill.

Face Claim: Jennifer Connelly
Description: Charlotte has fair skin, gray eyes, and long, wavy black hair. She is slightly above average height, standing at 5'7". Her clothing style is a mixture of casual and formal. One day, she will wear a t-shirt and jeans, the next she will wear a dress or skirt, depending on her mood.

_______________

Personality: Charlotte is a kind and patient person, always willing to help those who need it. She is intelligent and charismatic, having a sharp memory as well. She has a love for animals and enjoys being outside and exploring nature. Charlotte cares for her students and wants what's best for them. She is determined and headstrong, which can lead to stubbornness. She will do what she believes is right, even if clouds her judgement at times. One of Charlotte's strengths is her empathy. She is very understanding of other people's struggles and will show sympathy for them, even if others won't.

_______________

History: Charlotte was born into the Devoe family, one of Voxthain's older noble families. Her parents had high expectations for her and her siblings, placing emphasis on marrying into other noble families. Much like her siblings, she was determined to make her parents proud meeting this expectation.

Charlotte was enrolled in Cogworks, realizing that she had a natural affinity for enchantment magic, which became her main focus. She worked closely with her enchantment and astronomy, making sure that was practicing and perfecting her enchantment magic. Though she knew that her parents wanted her to marry after she graduated Cogworks, Charlotte wasn't too concerned about that at the moment. She was focused on her studies and doing well in school.

That was, until she met a boy named Matthew when she was twelve years old. They became fast friends, which slowly blossomed into a romance over the course of three years. Knowing that her parents wouldn't approve of Matthew due to his commoner blood, they kept the relationship a secret for a year. Charlotte had her parents fooled, At least, that was what she thought.

When she came home from school one day when she was sixteen, she was confronted about Matthew, somehow figuring out their relationship. Charlotte got into a heated argument with her parents, expressing frustration that they didn't want her to be happy with him. They threatened to disown her if she didn't break up with Matt. To her parents' shock she refused, saying that she would rather be happy with Matt, not caring that she would be cut off from the rest of the family. They told her that once she turned eighteen, she was officially disowned since she didn't agree to break up with Matt.

The day Charlotte graduated from Cogworks was when she was disowned. She packed her things, said farewell to her family, and left the Devoe estate, never turning back. While she was somewhat regretful for her decision, she was glad that her and Matt were still together. After this, Charlotte and Matt moved into an apartment together, living happily.

Charlotte and Matthew married when they were twenty-two in a private ceremony with just Matt's family. None of Charlotte's family attended, which saddened her, but her new husband and his family were her family now, so she didn't dwell on it too much.

There was one family member that supported Charlotte through everything; her sister Evelyn, who Charlotte found out married into the Delacroix family. Evelyn is the only person in her family who she frequently still has contact with to this day, though to an extent some of her other family members as well. She found out that her sister was almost disowned when she dated a commoner as well, but Evelyn broke off the relationship. They bonded over this and shared their anger at their parents for cutting off Charlotte.

When she was twenty-five, Charlotte applied to be the new enchantment and astronomy teacher and got the job. She's been a teacher at Cogworks for twenty years and has loved every single minute of it. She enjoys working with and helping the students and her teacher's assistant Megan. She wishes that she could talk to the rest of her family, but she tries not to dwell on it too much.

      𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Jinni is tall and beautiful in a way that feels unapproachable rather than inviting. She dresses in structured clothing—tailored coats, sharp boots, dark, layered tones that absorb rather than reflect light. Her blonde hair is cut into an airy wolf cut that is easy to maintain. Her eyes are dull but a stunning green, often narrowed further in a look that makes most people hesitate before speaking to her.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀But up close, her features soften. There are fine lines by her mouth and eyes that suggest she frowns more than she smiles, yes—but when she looks at her students or Kaela, there’s a visible shift. Her eyes seem lighter, her posture less rigid. Her voice, often clipped and quiet, takes on a smoother rhythm.

      𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗬

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Jinni is guarded, but not cruel. She doesn’t snap without reason, though her coldness can feel like a slap to those unaccustomed to her energy. Every part of her personality is bound tightly by control—she doesn’t like attention, doesn’t like vulnerability, and doesn’t let herself be known easily. She’s cautious in every interaction, treating the world like it’s one breath away from betrayal. It isn’t that she hates people; it’s that she doesn’t trust them. Sarcasm is her defense mechanism, deployed in sharp flicks of words when someone gets too close or too nosy. She doesn’t believe in softening herself for strangers.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀And yet, something in her breaks open around her students. She’s patient, attentive, even protective—never indulgent, but always kind. Her sarcasm vanishes entirely when she’s teaching, replaced by clarity and care. Her students feel it, too, the quiet dignity she grants them by never talking down to them. She notices who’s struggling and always finds a way to guide without embarrassing. She gives them structure, steadiness. It’s clear that, while she doesn’t believe people deserve her trust, she fiercely believes that children deserve safety and knowledge.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀When she’s around Kaela, though, it’s like watching a completely different person. She watches Kaela like she can’t believe someone like her exists: someone warm, adored, easy. Jinni tries to mimic Kaela’s openness in small ways—smiles she hasn’t practiced, casual touches she overthinks, praise she means but delivers awkwardly. She’s utterly smitten, and everyone can tell. Around Kaela, she’s softer, sweeter, sometimes even playful in her stiff, unsure way. It’s as if Kaela is the one place where Jinni allows herself to hope.

Likes

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Jinni has a quiet fondness for order—neatly stacked papers, well-organized shelves, and the steady rhythm of routines. Despite her aloof exterior, she adores literature, particularly tragic poetry she will never admit to reading. Her favorite moments are when her students surprise her, whether it’s a clever question, a breakthrough in their learning, or simply showing kindness to each other. Kaela’s laugh, which she’ll do just about anything to hear, is another thing she loves deeply.

Dislikes

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Jinni detests chaos, especially emotional outbursts—whether they come from others or threaten to rise within herself. She bristles at nosy questions, performative friendliness, and people who assume they know her. Loud voices and sudden changes to plans each make her irrationally angry. She dislikes witnessing vulnerability, both in herself and in others, though she’ll tolerate it from children with far more grace than adults. Jinni also harbors a strong distaste for small talk, forced gatherings, and anyone who tries to “fix” her, especially those who assume Kaela must be doing just that.

      𝗠𝗔𝗚𝗜𝗖

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Jinni’s magic is rooted in control and precision, not flash or power. She can sense magic like a dog on a scent trail like a sixth sense that tugs at her attention whenever enchantments, wards, or magical residue linger. Though her offensive casting is limited, her ability to sever, disrupt, or dismantle spells is exceptional.

Disruption | Abjuration

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Jinni can trace the thread of a spell mid-cast and cut it before it completes, often with a single whispered word or a flick of her fingers. Same with pre-existing enchantments. She doesn’t brute-force her way through them, she finds the weak spot and severs it with precise timing and deep knowledge of structure. It’s not a showy skill, but it is incredibly effective.

Shielding | Abjuration

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Though shielding wasn’t her original strength, Jinni surprised herself when she began teaching defensive spells to her students and realized how naturally it came to her. Her shields are clean, wide, and resilient—capable of covering not just herself but multiple people. They aren’t unbreakable, but they hold strong under pressure, especially when she casts them with others in mind.

𝑇𝑟𝑖𝑔𝑔𝑒𝑟 𝑊𝑎𝑟𝑛𝑖𝑛𝑔𝑠: 𝑁𝑒𝑔𝑙𝑒𝑐𝑡, 𝑆𝑢𝑏𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒 𝐴𝑏𝑢𝑠𝑒

      𝗛𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗬

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Raised in Asterath by a grandmother who had lost her sanity years ago, Jinni was just one of the many Asterath kids causing chaos on the streets. She was meant to go to Cogworks at five, but her grandmother didn’t enroll her. It took more than a few adults around the neighborhood realizing she wasn’t going to school, most of them not bothering to bring it up. Most Asterath citizens don’t meddle, but some do. There was one couple, though, who desperately pleaded with her grandmother to enroll her even if the old woman couldn’t even hardly comprehend the request. Jinni spent a lot of time at their house baking cookies and doing fun crafts, so they came to care about her.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀At nine, Jinni was finally enrolled by a Councilor at the time who spoke on her grandmother’s behalf. The Councilor was a family member of the couple that had grown fond of Jinni. She got a late start, but as a naturally curious child, she caught up to the others her age very quickly. Some students teased her, but she didn’t understand that it wasn’t just joking. She didn’t have much social interaction in her life before then, so she didn’t realize. Later, though, she met Kaela. The young girl was outgoing and sweet, the best friend Jinni had needed. As they grew up throughout their teen years, they were inseparable and obviously in love, but neither of them said a word about it.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Jinni supposed nothing could last forever, though. After graduation from Cogworks, just as she was working up the courage to tell Kaela how she felt, she found out that her grandmother was remarrying. Her grandmother, despite what some may think when they hear the word, was still rather young. Jinni’s mother, who she never knew, had her when she was nineteen, her grandmother equally as young whenever she had Jinni’s mother. She had just been driven crazy by something and nobody ever knew what.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Her new husband was a sketchy weasel, dealing in weapons and potions both. Jinni knew what had happened—he’d seen her grandmother’s weakness and wanted to use it. And he did. Jinni couldn’t go back to Voxthain, couldn’t reach out to Kaela, because her whole life centered around protecting her grandmother. It was for nothing, though, as the new husband had been working on a potions lab beneath their home. Unsurprisingly, tragedy struck. Jinni was out trading for supplies one day, her grandmother and the man at the house. One malfunction with the potions in the basement killed them both and obliterated the house. Jinni was only twenty at the time, two years having passed since she lost contact with Kaela.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Jinni fell off after that, the abrupt end of the only life she knew bringing her to hopelessness. She wasn’t close to her grandmother, but the woman was all she had. With no other option, she fell into the same Asterath life others did when horrific things happened to them. Asterath was good for those types life complications. She began to drink at saloons, drowning out the memories.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Six years. Six years and she had a schedule down, sleeping wherever she could find company on long nights and drinking her life away. That same Councilor who had enrolled her in Cogworks and helped her move her life forward all those years ago approached her in the bar she frequented, sent by the couple who hadn’t given up on Jinni. They’d offered her a home with them, but she refused. They finally sent the Councilor in hopes that she could inspire Jinni to regain her life, take back control. And she did. The Councilor mentioned how Jinni was a great student, so willing to learn and help others learn. How she had more in front of her than this life that she’d fallen into. Jinni began to visit the bar less and less, allowing her memories and mind to return to a state of normalcy.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀For the first time in years, she remembered Kaela. She had mentioned wanting to become a teacher, Jinni recalled, and had been so excited—did she attain that dream? Was she at Cogworks? A newfound sense of purpose began guiding her as she found accommodation in a nice Asterath apartment area, reconnecting with that kind couple who had all but saved her life by sending their Councilor family member to help her out. Jinni didn’t know what she could do after that, but sobering up and having a good home was a good start. She headed into Voxthain more, stopping by Cogworks to inquire about job openings. She wanted to find Kaela, even though it had been too many years. Why would the woman remember or care about her after she just up and disappeared?

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Jinni had always been pretty good at Abjuration magic, but she had no training to be a teacher. There was also another Abjuration teacher already, so Jinni couldn’t take that position yet, qualified or not. The teacher was growing old and wanted to give her position to someone younger, though, and began searching for an apprentice. Jinni willingly volunteered for that position and received it—teachers were in short supply, it seemed. The old Abjuration teacher noticed Jinni’s skill, but berated her daily about her manners and rude tone and words. It was the way of Asterath, but the teacher slowly albeit aggressively trained Jinni to be kinder and nurturing.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Jinni learned quickly, even if changing her whole set of mannerisms proved a challenge, coming to love the job and even being a teacher’s assistant more than she thought she would. With Abjuration came teaching English, another thing Jinni was already great at. The position seemed as if it were made for her. She kept to herself, though, and for a while she wasn’t even sure if Kaela was at Cogworks. She convinced herself that her former best friend was long gone, but she grew to love teaching nonetheless. If anything, it was a way to move her life forward, even if she would always remember Kaela and wish she’d done things differently.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Out of nowhere, after Jinni had accepted that fact, there she was. Kaela. Jinni was struck by the woman’s beauty and light endlessly radiating from her very existence. She’d changed so much in appearance, but that undeniable radiance? That was the Kaela Jinni remembered. The Kaela she’d almost given up on. She had to work up the courage to approach, certain Kaela wouldn’t remember her existence and that she’d seem like some off-the-rails stalker.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀But she did. Kaela recognized Jinni—they spoke, caught up, spent time together. Jinni couldn’t apologize enough for her disappearance, but Kaela didn’t blame her. It took no time for Jinni to trust Kaela like she did as a teenager, to fall right back in love with the woman.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Jinni was changed, different in so many ways. She was not kind and carefree like before. She had grown so closed-off, distrustful, pessimistic. Even the training to be kinder students didn’t transfer over to her behaviors with other adults. Jinni worked on it, Kaela supporting her every step of the way. They were together again and that was all that mattered to Jinni, as well as the fact that she’d pieced her life back together. She showed Jinni love when she needed it most, much like she became her best friend all those years ago when Jinni needed it. Every positive emotion she has felt within the past nine years of her own teaching career has been due to Kaela. Kaela.

      𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Saffron has a thick mop of darker blonde curls that are almost always a mess. His bright blue eyes are always alight with curiosity, sometimes betraying a hint of insecurity. His expressions tend to be open and readable, even when he tries to hide how he’s feeling.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀He stands at an average height, lean and lightly athletic from soccer, with calloused hands that show evidence of both sport and craft. He wears clothing that is comfortable, such as flannels and soft short-sleeved shirts.

      𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗬

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Saffron is a genuinely kind and respectful person. He tries hard to be good to people and is the type to hold doors open or offer to help carry things, even if it’s a little awkward. There’s an unpolished, awkward sweetness to him. He always means well, but his good intentions don’t always land the way he hopes. Years of quiet isolation have left him with underdeveloped social instincts, and his attempts to bond can come off as overeager or odd.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Despite this, Saffron’s loyalty is unwavering. Once he latches onto someone as a friend, he’s all in. His affection is earnest, almost childlike in its transparency. He’ll share his passions without shame, whether it’s chasing a ball across a soccer field or showing off his latest knitting project with a proud grin. He doesn’t care if it makes him look “uncool”—he enjoys what he enjoys, and that authenticity is part of his quiet charm.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Above all, Saffron wants connection. His loneliness clings to him in quiet ways—overexplaining jokes, hovering too long in conversation, misreading signals—but it never stems from arrogance or malice. He’s just a boy who wants to belong, learning in real time how to express that desire without overstepping.

Likes

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Saffron loves cold drinks on in the mornings along with the rhythmic click of knitting needles in a quiet room. He enjoys making things with his hands, whether it’s crafting a scarf for a friend or piecing together a puzzle just to see the full picture. Soccer gives him a sense of motion and purpose. It’s where he feels most confident and connected to others, especially because he’s one of the best players on the team.

Dislikes

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Saffron dislikes feeling dismissed or brushed off, something he’s unfortunately familiar with. He gets flustered when people make fun of his interests, not because he’s ashamed, but because he doesn’t understand why kindness or softness is mocked. He’s uncomfortable with dishonesty or passive-aggressive behavior, since he relies heavily on clear signals to navigate social situations. He dislikes being alone for too long—it reminds him too much of his early years, where silence wasn’t peaceful, just empty.

      𝗠𝗔𝗚𝗜𝗖

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Saffron specializes in magic that feels more like mischief than any attempt at mastery. His conjurations are often small and comforting, the snacks he summons layered with far too much sugar to be healthy. To him, magic should make the world a little gentler, so that’s what he aims to use his for.

Summon Creature | Conjuration

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Saffron’s favorite conjurations are the little creatures he summons. They’re usually harmless and cute, aren’t permanent, and most vanish after a few hours. They seem oddly intelligent, though, sometimes reacting to moods or hovering protectively near those who are upset. They serve no practical purpose beyond comfort and companionship, but that’s exactly why Saffron loves them. Especially a companion that siphons off of his magic and summons herself, a little cat-owl that calls herself Fable.

Snacks | Conjuration

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀In classes, Saffron’s conjuration habit gets him in trouble more often than not. He’ll casually summon a cup of sparkling juice or a bowl of popcorn mid-lecture, offering it around without thinking. He’s known for handing out warm cookies during exams and quietly creating plates of food for classmates who forgot lunch. The food always tastes great, surprisingly so, and disappears after a few hours with no lingering mess. While it earns him points with classmates, many instructors view it as disrespectful or disruptive. Saffron doesn’t mean to be defiant; he just genuinely believes a well-fed class is a happy class.

      𝗛𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗬

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Saffron was born in Asterath, his mother and father both very fun and free-spirited people. They were never affiliated with a gang, instead preferring to spend their time together wandering Asterath and doing likely just-as-dangerous activities together. Saffron was and still is not upset that he never got much attention from them—he prefers the permissive relationship he has with his parents to the strict, suffocating ones he knows his fellow Cogworks students have with their own.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀He was always taken care of growing up, but he hardly got much attention from anyone, which of course led to him being a bit of an attention-seeker in his teen years. He loves his parents and, as he’s seventeen and is nearing adulthood, has gone out and participated in some of his parents’ excursions. It’s safe to say he prefers his Cogworks friends and getting up to mischief with them after seeing what his parents went out and did.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Saffron is seventeen and in Cogworks, nearing the end of his last year. He is a terrible student in the basic education departments, but he excels in his magic area of expertise—Conjuration. He loves summoning little creatures, and sometimes even bigger ones, for others to ooh and ahh at. He has a specific little creature he almost always has with him, a little cat-like creature with four legs but feathers like an owl and wide amber eyes. He calls her Fable at her request, as the creatures he summons usually have their own minds formed from the magic. Fable likes him and he likes her, so she summons a lot more often—most of the time with Saffron even consciously doing it.

Personality: Soleil is a ray of sunshine with a heart of gold. She is extroverted and energetic, always eager to help out her homeroom teacher and students when they need it. She cares for the students and wants them to succeed and do well in school. Soleil hates violence and is not a confrontational person and is very much against it. She is an intelligent person, being able to solve relatively complex problems and enjoys learning new things. Soleil is a big believer in giving others second chances no matter the circumstances. Even if someone has wronged her, she doesn't hold grudges and tends to be sympathetic towards them since she believes that you never know what they're going through.

_______________

History: Soleil was born into a wealthier family in Voxthain. While her family wasn't extremely wealthy, they were well-off enough to live a comfortable life. Her mother was a teacher at Cogworks for several years before she retired, and her father was a doctor. Soleil realized early on how lucky she was to be in a family like hers.

Soleil's father traveled between Voxthain and Asterath to treat patients from both cities, and she and her mother would accompany him sometimes. She sympathized with the Asterathi citizens as they feared the gangs and crime. She wish that they didn't have to live like that. But what could she do? Nothing. She was a child, after all.

Her parents enrolled her in Cogworks and was assigned to her mother's room, Homeroom Ruby. As she got older, Soleil discovered her natural talent for abjuration magic, so she mainly focused on that and some evocation. She enjoyed all of her classes at Cogworks, but English was her favorite and piqued her interest the most. The school was her favorite place to be at besides home, as it allowed for her to spend time with her mother more.

After graduating Cogworks, Soleil got a job as a waitress at a restaurant near her house. Two years later, she left her job after finding that she wasn't satisfied with it. Deep down, she knew that she wanted to follow her mother's footsteps and work at Cogworks. So, she decided to follow her dreams and work her way into becoming a teacher's assistant.

She learned that there was a spot open for the teacher's assistant for Homeroom Sapphire and applied for the position. She was accepted, happy and proud of herself that she was able to work hard and get the job.

Her mother retired from teaching shortly after, but Soleil continues to work at Cogworks as a teacher's assistant for Homeroom Sapphire. She enjoys her job and loves helping the students in any way that she can.
