I'm weird in that my first book of the challenge is going to be a manga collection -- The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Apparently Link, the hero of the Legend of Zelda games, is left-handed.

Pffft. If you're weird, then I'm weird, too, because I've already got an e-copy of The Yakuza's Bias, Volume 1 borrowed from Brooklyn (my local library didn't have it) and loaded on my phone and ready to read come Wednesday!!!

But it won't be my FIRST challenge book, because I've already started The Road Trip, and there are also a bunch I had started earlier and then aside when I realized they fit 2025. I only count books I FINISH in 2025, but I'm not particular about when I start them.

Imke Bongers (imkebongers) | 3 comments I started The Goldfinch this weekend, so I guess that will be the first one to finish in 2025 :)

All set. I'll be starting off with the prompt "book you got for free". I got this Star Wars book ( Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire ) for Christmas so that covers that prompt.

Also got a few others lined up for my January TBR that manage to fit several of the prompts:

body of water- Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage

magical creatures that aren't dragons- Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West

starts with the letter 'y'- Y2K: How the 2000s Became Everything (not released yet, comes out in January though)

interconnected short stories- Tales of Two Planets: Stories of Climate Change and Inequality in a Divided World

always avoided reading- Call Me Indian: From the Trauma of Residential School to Becoming the NHL's First Treaty Indigenous Player (I'm not big on sports books, but I have a passion for any book related to Indigenous cultures so I'm giving this one a go.)

I totally understand where you’re coming from. 2024 was my first PS challenge though I’ve done others and I found the prompts to be too specific. BUT I think of prompts as guidelines and try to remember I don’t have to finish it. I will choose an author I know is “older” but will NOT find the oldest. If I run into a left handed character, fine, but I will not track one down short of a cursory glance at the list.

Perhaps thinking of them as guidelines not laws can make it fun for you again

Bea | 648 comments I am starting with two books I own:
Shaman, one of the two books for same title
Palindrome, no prompt yet
