From the mist

That valley's much like me
Depths unseen
Form shrouded
Mist and uncertainty hiding the light

I should be better now
I wear my truth today
In pink and ponytails
For all to see, but mist remains

Don't want to choose
There's sharks in the water
Far below
Snapping at my ends

"You should" and "You must"
Sharks with teeth
"Conform" and "Perform"
On the left and on the right

On the born-as and on the well-then
Support, but only if you choose
This misty middle
Is full of empty space

I don't mind space
I loathe chains
In the mist and open air
There's room to be both
Or neither.
