Lia is sunshine personified. She is often on the quieter side, but she’s always willing to talk with anyone who needs it. She loves her sister and friends, and would do anything for them. She’s a nice person, but if you hurt someone she loves, you might want to watch out. Her hardworking and determined nature has helped the Melbourne sisters through a lot. As a medic, she has an excellent bedside manner. The reason she chose to be a medic in the first place was because she wanted to help people, and also, because she had an affinity for it. She loves reading and music, especially folk and classical, but also pop. While she is an Asterath girl and appreciates the relative freedom of her city in comparison to Voxthian, she does often envy Voxthian’s fresh air and sunlight, and is always happy to spend time there, even if she wouldn’t want to be a citizen. She loves nothing more than sitting out in the sun with a good book, except perhaps spending time with her sister.
Lia is on the short side at 5'2", with long blond waves, which she often wears braided while working, and hazel eyes.
Lia's style is primarily very cottagecore. She loves sundresses, skirts, and cardigans, dressing in mostly whites and lighter colors.Lia was born to a single mother in Asterath. When she was eleven, her mother gave birth to her little sister, Kara, who Lia loved from the start. She loved to help take care of her baby sister whenever she was home from school. Which was good, considering she did have to look after her a lot, while their mom was working.
When Lia was a young teenager, her mom was diagnosed with cancer. As time went on, and her health worsened, Lia had to do more and more to help. She was fine with that, she just wanted to do anything she could. But when she was fifteen, her mother died, and Lia was left with a four-year-old sister, and no idea how to move forward. But one thing was for sure, she wasn’t ever going to allow them to get separated, and so she would avoid the orphanage if at all possible. Of course, they should have had some adult guardian, but it was easier to get away with such things in Asterath, and Lia was determined to do her best. She got a job as a server at a restaurant, which didn’t have great pay, but what more could a fifteen-year-old do? She was still in Cogworks, and considered dropping out many times, but knew that that would make it harder for her to get a job in the future. Besides, she had already decided that she wanted to be a medic, and if she was going to, then she had to finish school. So, she continued going to Cogworks, as well as working, and it fortunately wasn’t too long before she was able to enroll Kara in Cogworks as well.
At sixteen, Lia was out one night, when she ran into Lucien Wyver. They were in the same class in Cogworks, but had never really interacted before, and he seemed upset to run into her, but he was also hurt, and, well, Lia was Lia, so she insisted on helping. And that was how their unlikely friendship began. Just two teenagers trying desperately to survive, and provide for their little sisters, who would have likely never even spoken if it weren’t for that chance encounter. They were from very different backgrounds, yes, but their current situations were shockingly similar, and while Lucien was hesitant at first, Lia soon convinced him that she was trustworthy, and his secrets were safe with her, and soon they were doing their best to help each other. Whether that help involved sharing limited resources when one of them was unable to get anything, or simply having someone to vent to. Lia was generally the more optimistic of the two, but she definitely had her rough days. Things were tough, she sometimes wondered if maybe she really should just go to an orphanage. Maybe she and Kara could still manage to stay together.
Once she graduated, things got easier. She managed to go into a medical career, as she had hoped, and with a much better, steady job, slowly, things began truly improving. At the present, things are far better, Lia is still a medic, and Kara, now seventeen, is nearly finished school. Lia does feel like she and Kara have been drifting apart. She has always done her best to be there for her, even though it could be hard at times, but over the past couple years, Kara has been getting more… wild. And Lia suspects she may have joined a gang - likely, hopefully, the Night Riders - but she hasn’t confided in her - of course she hasn’t.Transmutation:

_______________
Appearance:

Face Claim: Kim Dahyun
Description: Aera has pale skin and brown eyes. Her hair is naturally black, though she likes to dye it various colors such as brown, blue, blonde, and pink. She stands at 5'4". Aera dresses casually for the most part, wearing t-shirts, jeans, sweaters, and cardigans. However, she does wear dresses and skirts once in a while.
_______________
Personality: Aera is full of sass and sarcasm but has a heart of gold. She is fiercely loyal to her family and friends and will do anything to protect them. Her rebellious nature and stubbornness can get her into trouble sometimes, but she usually does so out of what believes are the best interests of the citizens of Asterath. Aera can be blunt and comes across as cold or rude as a result. Though she acknowledges that she does hurt people with her honesty, she has no ill intentions. She tries her best to work on it, but she knows it’s in her nature to be blunt. She can also be quite aggressive, but only out of love for the people she cares about. Music is her passion and a huge part of her life. Whether it be singing or dancing, Aera loves expressing herself through her favorite hobby. Despite her tough and seemingly cold exterior, Aera is a kind and gentle soul and a loyal friend once you get to know her better.
_______________
History: Aera was born into a poor family in Asterath, the younger of two children. Her parents were normal citizens with no affiliation to any of the gangs. Her mother worked at a bar, while her father worked at a local store. While her parents’ jobs weren’t ideal, it was enough to provide for their family. At least, that’s what most people would think.
In reality, it wasn’t. Aera’s father was addicted to potions and traded many of the family’s possessions for them. Due to his addiction, her father lost his job, which made her family’s situation worse. Eventually, Aera’s father succumbed to his addiction, and died from an overdose when she was nine years old. This didn’t mean that they were better off, though. Far from it.
Aera’s family was the target of collectors and potions dealers from her father’s unpaid debts. Her mother worked even harder to provide for her family, while her older brother Seojun worked odd jobs during their Cogworks years to help out. Despite their best efforts, it still wasn’t enough. In a way, this contributed to Aera’s rebellious behavior and would occasionally lash out. She hated it, but it was difficult to keep a positive attitude when her family’s situation was dire.
Cogworks was an escape for her, not having to worry about her home life while she was there. Music was the one thing that brought her comfort and had a natural talent for it. Music and art became her favorite subjects and found them as healthy ways to express herself instead of occasionally lashing out at others. Her music and illusion teacher was the only person that she felt comfortable opening up to and appreciated that they didn’t judge her for who she was. Aera’s time at Cogworks were some of the happiest moments of her life.
It was also at Cogworks that she met her two best friends, Yara and Navi. Aera met Yara through Seojun, as he was already friends with her at the time. Together, the two of them formed a band, while Navi joined later on after Aera and Yara held auditions for a new member of the band. The three have been incredibly close ever since.
Then, when Aera was fourteen, one of the worst moments of her life came; Seojun ran away to join Club Serpentine. Aera had always held an anti-gang stance, and she was angry and hurt. She felt utterly betrayed by him, leaving her and their mother alone. After everything they’ve been through, how could he just abandon them like that? Sure, they struggled. But at least having each other made it more bearable. And that was what hurt most of all. Aera learned that Yara had ended her friendship with Seojun afterwards and began to rely on her and Navi for support.
Sometime after Aera graduated, Yara, who was a member of the Blacklights, convinced her to join as well, along with Navi and was offered a spot as a shield. She grew to love the job and felt honored to be able to protect the citizens of Asterath and the city that she loves. Though she couldn’t help Seojun, she became determined to help others in any way that she could.
Now at 23, Aera still fulfills her duties as a Blacklight shield while also working as a part-time dancing instructor. She still has contact with her mother and occasionally sends her necessities by trading some of her items so that she doesn’t have the burden of struggling. She rarely speaks to Seojun now, still hurt by his actions and doesn’t know that she’s a member of the Blacklights. Though Aera secretly wishes that her brother would leave the Snakes and come back to their family, after being in the gang for almost ten years, she doubts that will happen.

_______________
Appearance:

Face Claim: Li Bingbing
Description: Jiali has tanned skin and brown eyes. Her hair is black and shoulder length, though she occasionally dyes it brown. She stands at 5'5". Being a veterinarian, Jiali typically dresses more casual, whether it be the proper uniform or t-shirts and jeans. Though she does wear dresses and skirts from time to time.
_______________
Personality: At her core, Jiali is a kind, caring, and devoted mother. She's fiercely protective of her children, and, even when she doesn't see them, will always make sure that they're safe. She is a determined and hard worker who won't stop until her goals are achieved. Her caring nature and honesty are respected by others, something that she's proud of but doesn't gloat about. Jiali's biggest flaw is her occasional and questionable decisions. While she does her best to make decisions that benefit others, she can admit and look back on the mistakes that she made in the past. And though she sometimes has regrets, Jiali has tried her best to overcome it and become a better person.
_______________
History: Jiali was born into a wealthy Asterathi family. Her mother was veterinarian who ran her own clinic, something that Jiali took an interest in ever since she was a child. She would occasionally go to the clinic with mother and observe everything she did, This helped develop Jiali's love of animals.
While she had a talent for evocation magic, Jiali also focused on transmutation, conjuration, and enchantment, wanting to follow her mother's footsteps and become a veterinarian. She was known as a hardworking and responsible student, something that she took pride in,
At Cogworks, she met Haoyu. They it off and became fast friends, and would spend every single minute that they could together. Eventually, Haoyu's kindness and charm won Jiali over, and they fell in love. And she couldn't have been happier.
They married when Jiali was twenty-four and Haoyu was twenty-six. It was a small ceremony with just their families but just seeing them together made them both happy. They didn't need some fancy and extravagant wedding. They had each other. And that was the only thing that mattered,
A year later, Jiali gave birth to their daughter, whom they named Xinyi. The moment she laid eyes on Xinyi, she instantly loved her. Her daughter became her whole world and she vowed to protect her at all costs, from the gangs to the other dangers that Asterath faced. She had the family that she always dreamed of.
A few months after Xinyi's birth, Jiali's mother retired, passing on her clinic to her so she could run it. Jiali's parents moved temporarily so they could raise Xinyi while she and Haoyu were at work. While the job proved to be stressful at times, Jiali loved being a veterinarian and helping the animals.
A few years into the marriage, Jiali and Haoyu's relationship soured. They got into fights, leading her to drink as a way to calm down. This sometimes led her to be drunk though, making the situation worse. Haoyu and Xinyi weren't happy with Jiali's drinking, something that she regretted not stopping sooner.
One night, Jiali was at the Neon Cogs Saloon when she met a man named David. They both got drunk, resulting in an affair between them. Sometime after, she was horrified to learn that David was a member of Club Serpentine and immediately felt guilty about the situation. Jiali swore off drinking after the incident.
A month later, Jiali started to feel... off. She began to wake up feeling nauseous and sick frequently, and other symptoms that made her suspect that she was pregnant. When she found out that she was indeed pregnant, she began panic and was unsure what to do. Knowing that her husband wasn't the father made Jiali feel angry at herself and full of regret.
Knowing that she couldn't hide it from Haoyu and Xinyi, she told them the truth and broke down in tears as she revealed the truth. While her husband and daughter were and hurt and angry, they forgave her and decided to support her through it. The rest of her family wasn't happy either when she told them but forgave her and supported her as well.
When Levi and Julie were born, it was like a switch flipped for Jiali and her family. Her relationships with Haoyu and Xinyi improved, and in a way, the twins helped heal their family. They were doted on by their parents and sister, and Jiali's heart swelled with happiness.
On the twins' sixth birthday though, David visited the Lius unexpectedly. He revealed that he wanted to take them to Club Serpentine and raise them himself among the Snakes, though Jiali, Levi, and Julie refused, even after she revealed to them that he was their true father. He visited the home a few more times to try convince them, but Julie and still refused. The last time David visited, he gave them a choice: join the Snakes or he would find Xinyi and kill. Jiali was horrified and angry that he would threaten her daughter's life, though she tried to stop the twins. Levi and Julie decided to go with David though in order to protect their sister. The next day, the twins said goodbye to Jiali and Haoyu and left.
To this day, Jiali is still angry at David for taking her children away from her to be with such a dangerous gang. She has contact with all of her children, making sure that they're all safe. She loves the twins dearly, though sometimes she can't help feeling guilty and blames herself for Julie and Levi's involvement in the Snakes, knowing that it could've been avoided if she hadn't gone to the Neon Cogs Saloon that night.

Appearance:

Face Claim: Madison Beer
Description: Blake had medium tanned skin, dark brown hair, and hazel eyes. She doesn't style her much, but when she does, she usually just puts it up in a simple bun or ponytail. She is of average height, standing at 5'6". She doesn't like to dress formally, preferring more casual and comfortable clothing. She typically wears t-shirts, jeans, sweaters, and tennis shoes.
_______________
Personality: Blake is the definition of a daredevil. She's adventurous, courageous, and not afraid to take risks. She is also determined and headstrong. While they are her strongest qualities, they can also be a hinderance. This sometimes results in her stubbornness and refusal to back down from a fight or admit that she's wrong, even if she is. Blake can come across as intimidating at first but is actually quite friendly once you get to know her more. She can be quite blunt, though she doesn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings. She may be a Spider, but she believes in honesty, which is an important quality to her. She is a definite extrovert and loves socializing with others and making new friends. Blake is a carefree spirit who goes with the flow and improvises when needed.
_______________
History: Blake was born in Asterath into a well-off family. Her parents owned a successful and popular restaurant and spoiled her with everything she wanted, though she never took that for granted. She adored her parents the same way they adored her.
At Cogworks, Blake was a rebellious child. She liked to play harmless pranks on others and sometimes skip class. Her behavior resulted in her getting in trouble a few times, but Blake didn't let that bother her. While she was talented with evocation magic, she also decided to also learn abjuration, as she figured it would be put to good use with her personality.
Suddenly, when she was thirteen, her parents' restaurant lost business and had to shut down as result. Without the restaurant, the family began to struggle. This was a big shock to Blake. The life that she was used to was gone and shattered just like that. Blake worked a few odd jobs to help her parents, though it didn't help much. She wished there was more that she could've done more, but she knew that wasn't the case.
When Blake was sixteen, though she knew it was wrong, she attempted to steal a piece of jewelry in order to trade it for necessities for her and her parents. She spotted her target and tried her best to sneak up on them. She was unaware of one fact though; that the person she attempted to steal from was a member of the Arachniads. Blake was caught, and though the woman wasn't happy about it, she was impressed with Blake and earned her respect. The Spider asked to Blake to join and she agreed.
Now Blake still works for the Arachniads, moving out of her parents' house shortly after graduation. She still gets a thrill from stealing and goes on supply missions. She has made a few friends within the gang and have mutual respect for each other. Blake considers the Spiders her family and doesn't have any regrets joining the gang.
