For this discussion, we are going over Chapter 5 through 7. Please see below for a list of discussion questions to reflect on after reading.

Ch. 5: No One fights Alone

- This chapter describes the importance of solidarity across racial and socioeconomic lines as well as the powers of collective actions in achieving systemic change.

Discussion Questions:

What are some examples of solidarity that you have seen across different communities in your own life or in recent events? Have you seen any examples with the past 2024 election organizing? How does building solidarity challenge the zero-sum mindset the author describes in earlier chapters?

Ch. 6: Never a Real Democracy

- This chapter explores how racial inequalities have shaped American democracy, limiting the full representation and equitable access to resources and voting rights.

Discussion Questions:

How has the historical suppression of voting rights among communities of color had an impact on broader democratic values? Why do you think expanding voting rights is crucial for economic and racial equity? How does this issue relate to this past election?

Ch. 7: Living Apart

- This chapter examines housing discrimination, segregation, and the impact of residential policies that disadvantage communities of color.

Discussion Questions:

What are the lasting impacts of housing discrimination on both communities of colors and society as a whole in the United States? How does housing inequality reflect the broader zero-sum mindset? What can be done to create more integrated and equitable communities that support public health? What can be done to support the creation of more inclusive communities, given the results of the 2024 election?
