J. Baxter (jdavidbaxtercom) | 5 comments Hi, one of my books was added to Goodreads in the day or two between me setting up my preorder and when I replaced the placeholder cover with the final version. I would like that placeholder cover replaced with the actual cover which is correct on my paperback edition.
This is the one with the wrong cover: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

Thank you in advance!
J David

Martin | 36077 comments As the book was published several months ago and has hundreds of ratings/shelvings with that cover we would not now replace it. You can add an alternate cover edition for the new one.

J. Baxter (jdavidbaxtercom) | 5 comments The problem is that the book was never published with that cover. Not one person has ever read that book with that cover attached. The cover that is attached was a placeholder that only existed for two or three days while I was setting up my pre-order. I don't know who or how that cover was scraped and added here, but it should not have been. Are you saying that the ratings would be lost if the cover was switched? Because otherwise, this makes no sense.

Martin | 36077 comments Ratings would not be lost but staff could remove my librarian status for not following procedure. See https://help.goodreads.com/s/article/...
'Replacing or removing the cover of an existing edition, including the covers of advance reader copies, is in violation of Goodreads policy'
'Note: Replacing or removing the cover of an existing edition is in violation of Goodreads policy'
and
'There is only one exception to the rule about removing a cover from an existing edition: any obvious placeholder covers may be removed or replaced. Most placeholders will have a statement on them like "official cover coming soon" or "cover not yet available" or a similar notation', there is nothing in the image design or text to make it an obvious placeholder.

J. Baxter (jdavidbaxtercom) | 5 comments I get that this is the rule, and you don't have any leeway to change it. Please understand this is a very frustrating rule. Literally, not a single reader ever read this book with that cover on it. Not as an advance reader copy, nor in any other form. If I had even an inkling that someone would grab a copy and post it never to be changed, I would have waited and simply not uploaded the preorder until the final cover was complete a couple of days later. How was I supposed to know Goodreads would have such a rule, much less one with no provision for exceptions? From now on I will place BIG letters on the cover 'PLACE HOLDER COVER' so someone from here doesn't scrape the cover during the 10 and a half seconds I have a temporary cover in place. :(
