Apprentice to the Villain (November 2024) Buddy Read Discussion - Brianna & Anushka)

Per usual I barely remember what happened in a book that I read only a few months ago. I genuinely don't recall the importance Evie's mother had to the story but I do remember it was her dad that was the traitor. I remember loving Kingsley so glad he is there and well - I love that she taught him how to bite. Everyone's gotta learn self-defense! I am curious about the knight that appears to be on the villain's side - how did that happen? And who is he if he seems familiar to the villain?

You might be given how short it actually is.
Anyway, I'm on Chapter 3 and the moment when the The Villain is momentarily sad about the loss of his boots in the dungeon? I legit swooned. The boots were a gift from Sage and he is sad about losing that ...more sad than being captured and beaten up in a dungeon!
My heart is weeping...
When will he be free? I can't take his pain much longer. I want to physically climb inside the book and beat King Benedict up. Agh

I'm still only at the end of Chapter 10 - honestly haven't picked it up most of this week. It's been a busy one but will get back to it this weekend!
RE: Boots - I forgot those were a gift! They are so adorable.

Trystan's fury at people wasting cream puffs and pastries and food is hilarious. He actually wants them to throw rocks at him instead. Wow.

Trystan kicking Blade when he kissed Evie on the cheek.... haha. That man has no chill. Just because he cannot bring himself to show physical affection, he can't bear anyone else getting handsy or touchy-feely with her. So cute

Kingsley chomping down on the King's hand was the most entertaining part of the entire ordeal. Haha. I swear Evie Sage, the little tornado, is a true terror!

Evie, in her entertaining as all hell mind, just compared living without the Villain's touch to living with a fork embedded in one's lung. Whoa. Violent and painful much. I swear I love the metaphors used by the author. So graphic and entertaining and utterly original.

Evie trying (and failing) to make a skull with the milk/creamer on the Villain's daily coffee/cauldron brew?
I want a coffee with a skull too now. Leaves and hearts and stuff are so cliche.

I had really missed these characters. They're all such treats. Even becky in that scene with Evie's little sister, telling her to smile only when she feels like it.
The little trip to find some stardust was interesting. Evie has no sense of self preservation clearly. No wonder the Villain is constantly "incensed" haha. And the Kinight is revealed.
The Villain urging his sister to throw acid potion on the Knight for hugging Evie, haha. That man is too cute in wanting to hurt anyone who touches his Evie.

Evie is so bad at sketching. And that made me so angry because otherwise this slowburn torture would have ended. I need these two to get over their reservations and kiss already! Agh

Than man shows love in the weirdest of ways.

Evie, the little tornado, has discovered the Villain's tornado shaped nightlight and I'm swooooning.

through end of chapter 22:
I'm going to be honest here - I am a bit lost with somethings because I legitimately do not remember some pieces of what has happened. I'm still enjoying things though and am excited to see how things come together.
One of the things I forgot - Sage has a brother?
I love the banter and how much each party is trying so hard to resist the *obvious* attraction to each other.
I think my favorite is still Kingsley - I want a frog like him! Do you have a favorite as of yet?

It was absolutely adorable!

Chapter 31
An inebriated Evie solved the riddle. Whoa. I'm loving how frazzled the Villain is getting though. And now he's captured!?
I think my favorite are the mated Guvres. Haha. I looove their adorable moments. They seem like Evie-Trystan in some convoluted way though. Don't you think?

This slow burn will be the death of meee!
And the amount of secrets LITERALLY EVERYONE in the group has.
Becky's mother!? Evie's mother!? Best friends? Why does it feel oddly fitting? And why does it feel like I anticipated that on some level?
Gideon 's secret was just sad though. I don't know why everyone is so hard on him and have him constantly supervised. He was a child who was manipulated by his elders and he suffered as well. They need to cut him some slack.
Lyssa is sooo fun though. She taught fluffy to breathe fire! Finally.
And I see why you love Kingsley. He is so funny with his honest innocence and charm. Cracks me up all the time. Haha.
Let's see what happens at Fortis Fortress. I like the alliteration. Haha.

I love that she figured it out inebriated cause I couldn't figure it out even sober!
I wish we got more of the guyvres. I know they are "fate" but that's all I really understand of them.

The slow burn is honestly one of the main things keeping me invested. It is so good!
But yes - *everyone* has these crazy secrets and I am just waiting to see what other bombshell is revealed next!
I didn't even catch the alliteration! Super smart lol

I finished the book and the ending was so sad. I can't believe the Guvres were separated. I hate Benedict the babboon king with a passion I swear.
I'm sure the third book would be great but it needed to release like yesterday. THIS is what I get for reading incomplete series. Ahhhh.

It was enjoyable for sure! Hopefully the 3rd comes out soon?
