A year or so ago, Book Concierge recommended this book. I went to the library, read the book and posted how much I liked the story of someone moving to Minnesota. It turned out I had read the wrong book! I read If You Lived Here You'd Be Home By Now: Why We Traded the Commuting Life for a Little House on the Prairie which was delightful. Now I finally got to the one she meant - If You Lived Here, I'd Know Your Name and it's also wonderful. The author writes local news and obituaries for the newspaper in her small Alaska town. She introduces us to many of the varied people who have chosen to live (and die) in this remote and difficult place. There are multiple deaths from fishing boat sinkings, plane crashes, and mountain climibing accidents. But the people who live there find it beautiful and the sense of community is outstanding. The book is both entertaining and moving.

Theresa | 15518 comments I have this! Someday I will actually find time to read it. I remember buying it because I thought it might remind me of a show I adored: Northern Exposure.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11063 comments This sounds good to me too. I’m reading Late Nights on Air right now about people working in a radio station in the Northern Territory of Canada.

Theresa, I was also a huge fan of Northern Exposure. I loved the characters, and I always like “fish out of water” stories.

Robin P | 5739 comments Yes, It's been compared to Northern Exposure, though the main characters all want to be there.
